There's two new transcripts up on the Hall site. First, in A Keen
Proposal, Lisl hikes out to Jaret's house on one of the hottest days
of the summer. What did she bring along for the trip, what does she
ask of Jaret, and what does Jaret have a vast supply of?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040825-1.shtml> And then on
Monday night, Everyone comes back. No, seriously, everyone. Braz is
going to have to bring Marten/Moon Dancer/Taliaferro/Throat Warbler
Mangrove back in order to top this.

That's all for now, I'll see you on the Hall!

Yes, I'm actually managing to send out an update mailing shortly
after uploading a new transcript, so there's only one in this email!
On Monday night, Michelle's the Hallmaster tonight, as Kevil arrives
looking tired, Diya arrives with mangled birds and a sack of wife
soothing treats, and Lisl has... a big fish?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040823-1.shtml>

That's all for now, and I'll see you on the Hall!

There's a bunch of new 'scripts on the Hall site. First, in the
Monday night session from July 26th (yeah, it's been a while since I
sent out mail), Zoya's boisterous, Orlann's extra-brocaded, and... is
most everyone actually in a good mood?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040726-1.shtml>. And then,
in Piss and Moan, Lisl and Dawn meet up at the Warren. What's there
to discuss, what plans have already been made, and what new trinket
is Dawn sporting?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040801-1.shtml>. Next, in
the Monday night session from August 2nd Nacheyla's tending to
matters as Kevil arrives with a lumpy sack, Michelle is dressed to
the nines, and somehow Glossaria ends up relating the results of her
GYN exam. <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040802-1.shtml>.
Following that, in Not Sharing someone approaches Angel with a
proposition, and a rumor. What does Angel accept, whom does he go
meet for pastries, and where does he take him?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040815-1.shtml> And then
lastly, in the session from August 16th Rhys is tending bar as Vallel
arrives with a bulging sack, Zoya talks cooking, and Lisl shows up
late, but in time for ice cream.
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040816-1.shtml>

As for stuff on the wiki, some pages of interest (with information
both new and old) might be the Psionics' School page at
http://www.meadehall.org/patrons_only/settings/index.php/Nightstorm_Psionics_Aca\
demy
, Aldis's page
http://www.meadehall.org/patrons_only/settings/index.php/Aldis , and
Khymrych
http://www.meadehall.org/patrons_only/settings/index.php/Khymrych .

Enjoy, and I'll see you on the Hall!

Due to new student orientation which is taking place
Monday and Tuesday I'm not going to be able to attend
the Hall on Monday (I got roped in as a freshman
advisor, a club advisor, and a mentor for first
generation/low income/special needs students). Oh
well, at least this will help me look good when I'm
going up for tenure.

First of all, new transcript on the site that went up Sunday, called
Old Wlof, New Tricks! Lisl's dousing letters in perfume, having
clandestine rendezvous in remote inns, and... uncovering the identity
of one of Barise's most trusted allies?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040711-2.shtml>

And now for the fun part.

Q: So, what's new?
A: The wiki's been installed in the Patron's Only section.

Q: Again with this wiki. In plain English, what is it?
A: It's a hypertext document collection that allows users to enter
content, and also for that content to be edited by other users.

Q: Okay. I'm still not completely clear on the idea, but I'm going
along with you for now.
A: Thanks.

Q: Are you going to tell me the URL?
A: http://www.meadehall.org/patrons_only/settings/

Q: There's not much there yet.
A: It just got installed this afternoon. Kwitcherbitchin'.

Q: So...
A: So?

Q: Well, what should I do a page about?
A: Anything about the Hall that doesn't fit into the regular
categories. It'd be good for fiction to stay in Fiction, writings to
stay in Writings, transcripts to stay in Transcripts... like that.

Q: That doesn't leave much.
A: Oh, yes it does! There are STACKS of NPCs who could all use their
own pages (Adiethian? Bastian? All the psionics school students and
professors? All the Scum?), all sorts of terms (mulekick, Mist of
the Peaks), all sorts of organizations (the Purple Dragons? Black
Dragons? Stick's Boys? The Psionics' School? Thieves Guild?)...
there's tons that can be written about.

Q: Booooooooooooooring.
A: Well, how about this, hotshot? Write a collaborative story using
the wiki with other patrons, and when it's done, it'll get moved to
the Fiction or Writings section. Use it to run a slooooooooow
session that lends itself well to longer sections of prose than a
traditional IRC session does.

Q: It says "Log in" up top. I already have an account to log into
the Patrons site. Isn't that enough?
A: Yes, that's enough. You can edit articles without logging in.

Q: Seriously?
A: Seriously.

Q: I don't even have to create an account?
A: Nope. I did, just because I like seeing my name attached to
things I've written.

Q: Okay. Here's a tougher question.
A: I'm all ears.

Q: What's to stop me from deleting pages at random?
A: Nothing.

Q: Um... you said nothing.
A: Sure did.

Q: So... why don't I just delete pages at random?
A: The folks who do wiki a lot write some really fluffy pages about
this, but it boils down to a few things: A history of all changes is
saved, so it's trivial to revert to an old version of a page. Also,
if someone turns out to delete pages en masse, there are IP banning
tools. However, as this wiki requires the Patrons Only account, and
I trust all of you, I don't think this is going to be a problem.

Q: Okay. What pages can I edit?
A: Every page. There's a little 'edit' tab at the top of the page.
Click on that, and you can edit the page.

Q: Okay. I don't know HTML anymore. I don't want to learn HTML.
HTML makes me break out in warts in really private places.
A: So don't learn HTML. You just type in plain text, and the wiki
converts it to HTML. There's some markup you can do to bold and
italicize and link to other pages, but it's pretty straightforward.
And if you make an error, someone else can come along and fix it.
It's not like the world is going to end.

Q: Okay. I'm ready to go. How do I make a page?
A: Seriously, this took me almost an hour to figure out how to do.
Drove me fucking nuts. There's a couple ways to do it. Once the
site gets rolling, and there are some pages that have links to other,
unwritten pages, you click on the link to the unwritten page, and
it'll give you the text entry box to write up the stuff for that page.

For completely new pages, the easiest way is to put the cursor in the
Address Bar in your browser, delete everything after "index.php/",
and then type in the page the title of the page you want to make, and
then hit Enter. For example, for mulekick, the Address Bar would read
http://www.meadehall.org/patrons_only/settings/index.php/Mulekick .
The empty page will load, and you'll be prompted to start typing.

Yeah, seriously. Took me almost an hour to figure that out, and I
had the whole of the Interweb at my fingertips.

Q: Are there any conventions I should follow?
A: I'd like to follow the Wikipedia standard. Capitalize the first
letter, put underscores ("_") in as spaces, and only capitalize
subsequent words if they're part of a proper noun (Purple Dragons,
etc.). Please do try to use the underscores rather than removing all
the spaces. It'll make the internal wiki linking easier, I think. :)

Q: Should this go in the wiki?
A: I'll probably make a FAQ page at some point (unless someone beats
me to it) and use this as a base, and take out some of the snark.

Q: Are you about done?
A: Yeah, probably. See you on the Hall!

I'd be one of those who doesn't enjoy writing HTML.
:) I don't have any objections to the plan, but I
also don't see myself contributing anything any time
soon. During the invasion the settings page was very
useful, and I've found the information on the psionics
academy useful on several occasions back when Temire
was taking classes there. So I think it sounds like a
great idea, but I also don't want to be voting for
something I know I'm not likely to be contributing a
great deal to. Did that make sense?

I've never done a Wiki before, so I don't know how images will work,
to be completely honest. The link I gave talks about text, mostly,
but then it has an image as a part of the article, so there has to be
some kind of capability to upload images. I imagine there will be a
learning curve for everyone. I'm hoping that it will be relatively
gentle. We'll see. :)

I still occasionally hit the settings page - I was hitting it a lot
during last year's invasion, when the city layout actually was
significant. And I can think of more stuff that I'd love to add,
given time to put stuff together...

Would we be posting images to the Hall site (a la the Psionics school
links that are already up), or hosting our own sub-pages and linking
to them from the settings page (as we have done with the link to
Kevil and Loria's house)? I don't know much about how Wiki works,
but from the link in the e-mail, it looks like it may be
text-only...? Either way would be fine with me, but not all of our
Patrons like dorking around with HTML the way I do.

My two cents.

As long as it would still require login to get to the editor, I approve
wholeheartedly. This is a great plan; I love this plan! And I was there!
I was there when he saw the plan, when he plucked it ripe from the tree!
It was-- dare I say, genius? No! But YES! :D

Oh, and some general guidelines or a template or something would be good,
too. ^_^

Evening everyone. I've had an idea for the Hall site, and I wanted
to run it by everyone and see what the response was like.

A few years ago, I started to put together a page for the many
settings the Hall takes place in at
http://www.meadehall.org/patrons_only/settings/ . It never really
got off the ground, although there is some really good stuff on the
page. I was thinking about that section of the site today, and
wishing that there was some way I could enlist the help of the rest
of the Patrons to populate that section of the site.

And then I remembered Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki

If I beg and plead with Jeremy, and get him to install a Wiki on the
Hall site for the purposes of letting you, the Patrons, add to the
settings information on the Hall site, is anyone interested?

Speak out!

Two new transcripts, and I'm sending out this email on the same night
they went up on the site! Whoo!

First in Leading the Blind, Zoya, Jaret, and Niralan conference in
the Tower. What suspicions does Jaret have, what does Niralan have to
say about them, and what plans are made?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040711-1.shtml> And then, in
the Monday night session from the 12th, Rhys is tending bar as the
Hall receives a lieutenant, a mage who tests out certain wardings,
and Glossaria experiments with tonic water.

So... um... 7 transcripts have gone up on the site since my last
update mail. In my pitiful defense, three of them went up tonight,
and of the other four, three are Monday nighters. Oops? Anyway, on
with the show!

We start with A Little Less Conversation, where
Lisl comes over to talk to Jaret, and Zoya joins them shortly. What
do Lisl and Jaret have to talk about, what has Zoya figured out, and
what does Jaret volunteer to do?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040604-1.shtml>. Then, on
the Monday night transcript from the 7th, Michelle's tending to the
Patrons as we find out where Kevil is barred from entering, what news
does Orlann have that is greeted with mixed emotions, and where has
Lisl been? <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040607-1.shtml>.
After that, in Catspaw, Jaret creeps into the temple of Lathander to
replace Niralan. Who notices his entry, who keeps him company, and
what woman does Jaret find to converse with (what IS it with him,
anyway?) <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040613-1.shtml> .
Then, back on the Hall on the 14th, Rhys takes care of the taps
today, as Lisl is blessed by a dubious sounding deity, Tarri outlines
her payment plans, and Temire asks what a good deed is.
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040614-1.shtml>. A week
later, on the 21st, Nacheyla is reading a most curious packet when
things open up. Who takes an immediate interest in it, who's the
long-time-no-see arrival, and what do the contents of the packet mean
for the Hall?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040621-1.shtml>. Next, in A
Little Ambition, Niralan's arrival at Zoya's Tower was not the
smoothest one. How long does it take Zoya to decipher the cause of
Niralan's ravings, what can she do about the spell laid on him, and
what does he have to say?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040628-1.shtml> And lastly,
on the evening of the 28th (shortly after A Little Ambition and the
end of Catspaw), Michelle's behind the bar when Jaret and Zoya arrive
with urgent news, Loria samples a wide spectrum of the menu, and
plans are made. Sort of.

That's all for now, I'll see you on the Hall!

So.... no, sorry to disappoint you thrill-seekers, but I made it home

Yes, would you belive it, updates to the site!

On the 'script from Monday the 24th, Nacheyla's behind the bar and...
is that blood on her clothes? How's her mood, what does Lisl have to
say about Zoya, and what is said about the seamer members of society?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040524-1.shtml> Then, in An
Eye For Detail, the forger, Ink, visits Jewel. What does she deliver,
what does she take away with her, and what has she spotted that she
asks Jewel to tell Dawn?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040530-1.shtml> Then, on
Monday the 31st's session, what holiday does Lisl declare, who's got
the shiner, and who's been kicked out by their spouse?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040531-1.shtml> Then, in
Poli-, Meaning Many, Zoya and Lisl go to visit the War Wizards. Who
owns the Hall, whose files are brought out, and what lie is told?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040601-1.shtml> Lastly,
shortly after that, in -tics, Meaning Small, Blood-Sucking Insects,
Tarri goes to visit Niralan at the Morninglords temple. How does he
react to her visit, what does Niralan have to say, and what does it
mean for the Hall?

That's all for now, and I'll see you on the Hall!

So... I've been more slack than usual about sending out update
notifications. Whoops! Since I last sent out mail, there have been
a raft of new posts, some of which have even been moved to the
Patron's Only section since I sent out the mail. :( Sorry about
that.

In The Best Lies Are Half Truth, Tarri and Lisl are talking at
Tarri's flat when Orlann returns. What's new on the job for Orlann,
who's no longer in Marsember, and what little secret comes out?
<http://www.meadehall.org/patrons_only/transcripts/1404/20040417-1.shtml>
Then, in Monsters and Whispers, Tarri and Orlann talk. What is
Orlann's main concern, how does Tarri reassure him, and what
conclusions do they arrive at about Lisl?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040417-2.shtml> Next, on the
transcript from April 19th (I said it'd been a while since I sent out
an update mail..) what does Tarri bring to the Hall with her, who has
the most of them, and who gets the last?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040419-1.shtml> For the
Monday after that, who's at the Hall who visits infrequently, what
does Zoya grill him over, and who enters all covered in jam?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040426-1.shtml> The week
after, Kevil enters besmirched, Cheylon enters with a worn out seat,
and Yohko enters with a heavy purse. What does this call for? Cake!
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040503-1.shtml> Seven days
later, who's new tonight, what terrible news does Orlann have, and
what do people plan to do about it?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040510-1.shtml> Then, in One
Way To Skin A Dog, Lisl stops by Orlann and Tarri's apartment with
some ducks, has some tea, and concocts a plan that may or may not get
everyone in trouble.
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040513-1.shtml> Later that
week, in Horning In, Jewel has a lovely day at her shop. Goods are
sold, information bartered, and the word 'fuck' is bandied about a
lot once Dawn shows up.
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040515-1.shtml> The next
Monday, a different person than usual enters carrying game for the
larder, someone enters with a grim disposition and results of a
search for the killer, and a possible conclusion is formed about the
killer's species.
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040517-1.shtml> A few days
later, in Is He... Or Isn't He? Lisl and Zoya invite Orlann to visit
them at the Tower. What do they have in mind, why does it bring up
painful memories for Orlann, and what do the War Wizards have to do
with it? <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040519-1.shtml>
And lastly, a shortly after that, in Cold Reason Lisl and Zoya have a
Talk. Will she stay or will she go now? If she goes there will be
trouble. If she stays there will be double. Or is it the other way
'round? <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040521-1.shtml>

That's all for now, hopefully I'll stay more on top of things in the
future! See you on the Hall!

Two new transcripts for the Hall site. Two! Ah, ah, ah....

First, from two Mondays ago, something's fishy on the Hall. Why is
this a good thing, how does Jaret irk Lisl today, and what does
everyone think of fashion?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040405-1.shtml> Then, from
this past Monday, it's another night on the Hall! What was the
verdict in the hearing about the fine, what's been going on with
Tarri, and what's the city council's latest suggestion about the
Hall? <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040412-1.shtml>

That's all for now, I'll see you on the Hall!

I was sitting here in a moment of rare peace at my PowerBook,
thinking, "Self, what have we forgotten to do that we should be doing
right now?" The answer was, obviously, write an update mailing!
There have been three new transcripts posted to the site since I last
sent out email, and two of those transcripts went up last night! So,
without further ado...

On the Monday night transcript from (*gulp*) two weeks ago, what's
got Nacheyla so incensed, what treat does Nacheyla bring in for
everyone, and who gets their share of it and more?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040315-1.shtml> Then, from
last week, what part of the Hall is out in the alley, what has Orlann
been guarding lately, and what background information does he have on
the Hall's most recent detractor?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040322-1.shtml> And then,
from this week, what snag regarding rebuilding his shop has Vallel
hitting the hard liquor, what theories fly about, and whose
relationship takes some friendly ribbing?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040329-1.shtml>

That's all for now, and I'll see you on the Hall!

All:

Effective immediately, all Monday night sessions will be held on the
alternate server rochester.mi.us.starlink-irc.org . If the
connection issues with the primary server are ever resolved, an
announcement will be sent out, celebrations will be held, and we'll
move back.

If you have problems connecting to the alternate, please find a
server that works for you, and then let the list know that you're
having problems and what the alternate server is that you can connect
to.

Sorry for the complication.

Ladies & gentlemen:

Several of us are having difficulties maintaining an IRC connection
to Bree again, so we're going to try to play tonight on the
"standard" alternate server rochester.mi.us.starlink-irc.org.

An alternate Starlink node to try if you can't connect to that is
grantspass.or.us.starlink-irc.org

If neither of those nodes work for you, find an IRC server that you
can connect to, and then email the list with its address.

Hopefully we'll all find each other before it gets too late (or
early, in Stam's case).

Now that the site seems to have stabilized some, I've been able to
post two new transcripts, so this is the email telling you there's
stuff to go read! First, from two Mondays ago, Rhys is pouring, and
the patrons are drinking. Who's Diya's date tonight, what's Temire
put her foot in this time, who stuns everyone with her complete
normality? <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040209-1.shtml>
And then, last Monday, it's another chilly night in Marsember, and
people come to the Hall to warm up! Who's the most bundled up, what
plans do Kevil and Diya discuss, and who returns to the Hall to stay?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040216-1.shtml>

That's all for now, I'll see you on the Hall!

Because of various sysadminly things that Jeremy did to the meadehall
server, some people are still having trouble getting to it via IRC.
So tonight we'll be Halling from the alternate server, rochester.
For those of you who might have lost the connection:

Server Name: rochester.mi.us.starlink-irc.org
Port: 6667 (should be the default.)

See y'all there!

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Our server (bree) is suffering from a hardware malaise that is still being
diagnosed by our patient and unpaid sysadmin. Connectivity will be spotty
to nonexistent until things are resolved. If people want somewhere to
congregate, the usual alternate server is
rochester.mi.us.starlink-irc.org , channel name #MeadeHallChat

This is the weekend update, and I am neither Dennis Miller, Colin
Quinn, nor Norm MacDonald. Thanks for asking.

There's just the one new transcript up, but it's got a lot of fun
bits in it. Nachela's behind the bar, and after she does a little
clean up, she has a special gift for Lisl. What is it, what else is
unrepentantly orange, and what does Bluestar do that leaves everyone
speechless. <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040202-1.shtml>

Whoops! I forgot to send out last week's update mailing, so there
are two transcripts to note in this week's. Last week, Rhys is
pouring, when he can, and there's people there for him to pour for!
Who does Diya bring on the Hall, what is Kevil disappointed to not
find at the Hall, and who does Lisl make an early morning date with?
<http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040119-1.shtml> And then
this week, what games does Glossaria play in the alleyway, whose
research disasters are discussed, and who doesn't have a hat?

Yes, there is one more transcript up on the Hall site for your

Why, yes it is! I'm a wee bit rusty at all this, but I think all the
links are un-broken at this point, after a little bit of running around
and post-upload editing. It was great to see and play with everyone
again, and if you weren't there, we missed you, and hope to see you soon.
On to the actual transcript! The Hall is re-opened for business. What
changes have been made since we last saw the Hall's interior, who arrives
injuried, and who's everyone feeding chocolates to by the end of the
night? <http://www.meadehall.org/transcripts/20040105-1.shtml>

That's all for now (I've got another transcript to edit and post, though,
so watch your email for more news!), and I'll see you on the Hall!

A notice, written on determinedly plain brown paper, has been posted
in a few subtle locations around Marsember. It reads:

"After much due diligence, persistent city inspections, industrial
overhauling, and timely payment of many fines, the Meade Hall is
proud to announce it will reopen for business on the 5th of the month
of Hammer, in the year 1404. All are welcome. --The
Management"

Those passing by the Hall have been privy to the painstaking
renovations of the surrounding area, including the replacement of the
glass cobblestones populated by aquatic life (most of them going as
souvenirs to the well-heeled of unusual tastes), the rebuilding of
the two structures near the Hall that were turned into ice (into
somewhat grander edifices, as both had conveniently planned to add
extensions in the near future, as hastily filed paperwork showed).

Once the large hole in the roof of the Hall was repaired, no one has
been seen to go into or out of the building, but a steady sound of
hammering, banging, and the occasional trickle of thick black smoke
from the chimney are evidence that some sort of work was underway.
In the last few days, the thick rock that had served as a possibly
impromptu and definitely impassable door to the Hall was replaced
with one of stout oak, with iron bands, and the sign on it has
changed as well.

"REOPENING SOON."

[Yes, the Hall will be back open this coming Monday, January 5th! If
you haven't already done so, remember to change the port your IRC
client connects to to port 6668. See you on the Hall! --Matt]
