To be frank, I also don't know how to forward your reply to that guy.
I personally don't know why didn't he (shouldn't be she) just email MOA,
that guy just complaint to me when I was 'kurniking'.

If you realise, I'm actually helping MOA right now by forwarding feedback
from the players (or maybe not, I don't know).
Or else, I can just 'boh chap', I can just ignore the feedback and save up
my time from typing email here. I won't say anything if I don't care lor...
I don't think I deserve 'people complaint, i help forward feedback, i kena'.

I know who do you mean 'back out in the last minute'.
If you trust me, you can just talk to me if my assistance is needed.
But... Try not to request my assistance in the last minute, terima kasih of
your understanding.

Hi Anthony,

Let's get real. If anyone who is not happy about it, tell the organizer. What is the reason they go invincible and ask someone who is not even helping in organizing to tell us. Either he or she think that the organizer is so snobish that we will not listen to any feedback or they are just not serious. So if you think he or she is serious, forward my email to him or her and ask he or she to email me directly.

MOA always need help but there are just too many people who offer their help initially but back out in the last minute. Anyway thanks for your offer and I hope you are not like those people who have dissapointed MOA.

Regards,
Leong Woo

The following mail received last week from Bintsa Andriani, the editor
for Othello Wikipedia (The Othello Wiki Book Project) I would like to
seek a translator who can translate the page below. I have personally
look for some one, but not found. Thanks.

Hello Edmund Liow,

Please can you help me translate the page?

Only this page will be translated; all the other pages must be edited
in english, so it is easily understandable.

Thank you.

Anthony has some point here. As a player myself, the monetary reward
is not really important. It is the interest and interaction and
perhaps recognition for some players that they join. We can actually
do away with the prize money. To the furtherest extent, we do not
really need trophies, the certificates will be the bare minimum.
Having the prize money is like playing TOTO, others pay to let someone
win the money which I felt may not be necessary. The lower cost of
participation fee could attract even more players to join and the
additional money can be used to fill up the deficit.

Why not let's come to a consensus by asking the members to participate
in a poll and decide for themselves whether the prize money is really
important. If everyone is fine, we do not need the prize money and can
  reduce costs.

But on a more practical plight, the genting trip may not be some
pragmatic as the travelling time, cost, planning and coordination may
be more than what they can handle. Personally, I think the genting
trip is good but we need to take in more considerations.

next time please try not to assume that players will exceed a certain number
in order to turn over the cost.
what we should do, is think about how to attract more players with the
decreasing cost we need to spend.
i'm so sorry about the tragedy of the kl open :-(

don't dream so much that sponsor will give you money directly.
the sponsor i mean, for example genting sponsor a department or a place for
competition.
this is a nice image for players that the money they spend for the
competition is worth.
from the money we receive, spend "very little" on the trophie and
certificate, the rest fill up the previous money owe by buying the boards
and clocks.

you always say like moa very poor, moa has no money, why don't you try to
save the cost of malaysia open once or twice in order to feed up our
previous budjet of buying the board and clock?
conclusion is, try not to award too much for winner.
trophie and certificate is more than enough, why money money??
leong woo spend about rm2000 for the boards, why not we save the money award
from 2 or 3 tournament to return the rm2000?
i have repeat and repeat again, no money award, and no one care with money
because most players participate for interest, trophie for top 3 and ranking
cert for top 10 is enough for memory and recocnition.

as if sponsor ask about where our money goes, we just explain that we spend
money in buying international boards.
don't simply give out reason that "oh, we need to give money to top 10, give
them a lot a lot of money"
what we should realise that, moa had just started, it's already very good
that we have international board and nice clock.
the important issue right now is to get enough of budget to return the money
to leong woo, not to have much money award to attract more players so that
we could earn more.

as for past example of kl open, 20 players need to participate in order to
turn over the cost.
imagine how many competitions that we need to organise in order not just to
turn over the cost, but get back enough of budget for the boards?
participation fee is another issue, from my perspective, it's still a bit
too high most likely for the others.
i said before, you may set the participation fee to $1000, and think that 3
players participate will enough to turn over the cost, and eventually 0
player join (this is just an over example).
we need to strike the balance that most players will interest to join with
the money they spend to make them feel like it's worth to participate.

my example of having the competition in genting is not bad.
because we make players feel like we are going to travel, and with $20-$40
bucks they spend is actually more worth than that.
in order to save the cost, get sponsor from genting and see whether they
would sponsor a department for us for free, and cut off the money award for
top 3.
then our only cost will be making top 3 trophie and top 10 certificates.
the rest we could return it back to leong woo for the cost of the othello
boards.
if you feel trophie and certificate is not enough, organise a little bbq in
genting, that will be great enough.

the participation fee need to be balance, not too high, not too low, depend
on the budget we will spend.
of course if you want to give out $500 money award for top 3, our cost
increased and we need to increase the participation fee, but think about how
many participations will decrease due to higher participation fee.
spending $20 just for playing othello is not worth than spending $30 to play
othello in genting and have fun.
this mean that we need to make the player to feel that they more willing to
spend much in the more happier condition.

more to say, do anybody know that this year Kuala Lumpur Othello Open
Championship 2007 we are having a deficit? now talk about money, let's
face it. we have 9 players. according to leong woo, we actually need
20 players to break even. we need to have trophies, certificates,
premises renting, prizes etc. what more?

well this time i support your saying. but perhaps you have misquoted
my saying. i didn't mean that. but to have a tournament, we must
have money, that's for sure. players, esp you, haha, only care about
joining the tournament and after the tournament has finished, you
all disappeared and wait for the next one. but to me to lead an
association, i care about our association long term development.
like leong woo has spend himself about rm2000.00 for the boards and
rm3000.00 for the timers. glad. claps. well, what more i can say? do
we have to share a burden for him? he come up the money first place
wow??? if we get rm1500.00 from the sponsor, can we not say we give
nothing as prize money to the winners and keep everything ourselves?
we must act-lah. this is a relistic world. so, what i only suggest
is rm1000.00 for winners, this can be adjusted. like doing or
running a business, we must have an audit figure for the company who
sponsor us right? so a propotion certainly will go to winners etc.
claps. +++ edmund liow.

come on edmund, don't always say RM1500 for prize.
for those who are keen to participate the competition, we don't care much
about the money prize ok?
no one care, man... no one care...
the effect of spending RM1500 for prize is same as spending RM500 on prize.
why do you purposely make it so expensive for the cost?
all players come to play for malaysia open is for the chance of get into
woc, and to have fun.
i believe trophie and cert is more than enough, why money prize?
you may think money can attract more peoples to join, but my answer is,
no...

secondly, for those who really come for fun, we really come for fun and
ready to go for a cheap travel in Genting, why do we care about the money
prize of top 3 winner?
and well, we all just have fun and enjoy, do you think there is a poor guy
who come to participate malaysia open just for winning the championship and
get the money to feed his whole familiy?

sometimes you always think about problem related to money money money
but think out of the box, we can work it out
instead of traveling up to genting to do survey, man... use internet!!!
alternatively, we may rent a cheap department to stay overnight and have
that department for competition.
i don't think it will be too expensive for us to cover if we know how to
save our money from other cost such as the stupid money price of top 3.

i tell you what, i won twice of money prize from singapore open, but i don't
even care to spend it out to treat all my friends for happy gathering meal.
everyone happy better than 1 person happy right?
why not deduct the money prize and save it for the cost of renting a
department in genting?

another option is, email the genting and ask them if they could sponsor a
place for us to organise "A Grant Malaysia Open Othello Championship", i
believe there is possibility that they won't mind to help us.

Anthony & all,

I personally think that Anthony's idea isn't bad. But when I
consider it deeper, it dooes involve a lot of cost calculation and
planning ahead and coordination. Especially the venue is at Genting
while most of our members are at Kuala Lumpur. The committee would
require to travel to Genting Resort (2 hours journey to and back) to
do survey. Again have to coordinate again several times to make sure
everything alright. And the spending at the resort is high compare
to normal Kuala Lumpur premise.

First of all, do we need to held it at open space ... a complex main
podium? Does the complex allow us to do it at their main podium? If
we are allow, can we seek at least one single sponsor to come out
with at least RM1500.00? P/S We do need the RM1500.00 for prizes,
trophies, certificates etc. that cost at RM1000.00 and another
balance of RM500.00 for advertisement and subsidy of Othello boards
and clocks we purchased.

Well, I keep my finger close now for the time being. Let other of
you voice out please.

I have a nice idea for this Malaysia open.
I suggest to held in at somewhere else that can let use gather and
travel together.
In case Makoto or anyone who is not staying in KL join the Open, we
could bring them to have fun too.
I personally think Genting Highland is a nice place.
