I expect that the due date for Spring 1501 moves should be around March 6th or
so. I will be setting up the boards in the next couple of days I will send
emails out, both to the yahoogroup and directly to the players and GMs.

Yarden, I am sorry, but really can't hold it up that long. I think it would be
better if you stood in reserve right now. Unfortunately for the Tournament,
(but good for you), it is very likely, given human nature and the vagaries of
RL, that we will have at least one person who will disappear and never submit
Spring 1501 orders. Since the first year is no-NMR, if that occurs, you are
welcome to step in, and in that case, the first turn will be held up to give you
sufficient time for negotiations.

Ok, folks. We now have a full roster. Over the next few days, I will set up
the boards and make the official announcement for a start date.
One format change; it is now only a 6 board tournament (I didn't want to keep
you all waiting too long!), so one second place player will advance to the final
round. The necessary changes will be made to the Tournament rules at the
variant home page and in the yahoogroup.
In other news, the third installment of the "Design of a Variant" article series
will be appearing in the next issue of the Pouch. No great tactical tidbits,
I'm afraid, but some background info that you may find of interest.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Join the Tournament and enjoy top flight competition with a set of
experienced GMs. No openings left for GMs or administration, but
backups will not be turned away. Contact me if you are interested,
and while slots are still available.
This variant that has the same basic feel and scale as Standard
Diplomacy, but is more balanced, with a wider variety of play options
for all the Powers, and where stalemate lines are much less likely to
have a major influence on games. Two comparatively minor rule changes
(river convoys and modified chaos builds), so you won't need to spend
a lot of time getting up to speed.
Rules and info about the variant and the tourney can be found at the
variant homepage: http://diplomiscellany.tripod.com/diplomacy/id4.html
, or in the files section of the maharajahsdiplomacy yahoogroup.
The rules and organization of the Maharajiad are somewhat similar to
the Worldmasters Tournament, but there are several significant
differences. Here is a summary of some of the most important
Tournament information:
1. To register as a player, or if you wish to help out in some other
way, contact me at zendip18AToptonlineDOTnet. You will need to give
your full name. You may submit a preference list if you wish to enter
as a player. Registration to the yahoogroup is highly advisable,
since that is where
tournament-wide announcements will be made.
2. Board assignments will be completed within one week after a full
roster of GMs and players is set.
3. The Tournament is individual only, with no team aspect.
4. It is a two round, top-and-advance tournament (one second place
player will also advance), with the first round lasting until 1510
(from 1501, so it is a 10 year game) and the second round having
no time limit.
5. This is a "full press" Tournament.
6. GMs may adjudicate "by hand", with Realpolitik, or if a judge
keeper permits, by adapting a judge for adjudication, but no player
will be required to submit orders directly to a judge.
7. NMRs will be allowed, and the Tournament will run on a 5 turn
basis, at a pace of approximately 1 game year every two weeks.
8. Each GM will publish results of his or her particular game both in
the maharajahsdiplomacy yahoogroup, and in one of his or her usual
forums, so as to help publicize the variant.

David,
First, I can not make contact with Manus. It seems he disappeared of

Second, I will be in Israel Mar 04 - Mar 14. If this cause a problem

where exactly do you unzip them to? After unzipping they should be all in
onw folder. And that folder should be placed into the folder variants in
X:\Programs\Realpolitik\Variant Files or wherever you have installed
Realpolitik.

Sounds like something has gone with the unzipping. Which zip tool do you
use?

Grin, I'm not an idiots guide and I look forward to help you through your
trampling elephants;-)
Cheers
Frank
P.S: Any further questions please get back to me in private:-)
Is the only thing that I can imagine. If you haven't, surely that's the error. Every variant must be in a unique subfolder within he adress: C:\(...)\Realpolitik\Variant Files\<variant>.
If you have it this way, then I can't guess what is it.
The icon subfolder must also be inside this variant folder. Surely you have all the icons in the main icon folder. Check that.
I am playing in this tournament but am having trouble getting the variant to work in Reopolotik.
The problems I am experiencing are that one I unzip the files into Reopolotik, I get the original Diplomacy map with a mixture of normal armies and fleets and elephants and sailing boats. When i select the Maharajah variant, I get an error message saying it cannot find the files.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
If anyone has an idiots guide to help me, I am not too proud to use it.

Hello everyone,
I am playing in this tournament but am having trouble getting the
variant to work in Reopolotik.
The problems I am experiencing are that one I unzip the files into
Reopolotik, I get the original Diplomacy map with a mixture of normal
armies and fleets and elephants and sailing boats. When i select the
Maharajah variant, I get an error message saying it cannot find the
files.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
If anyone has an idiots guide to help me, I am not too proud to use
it.
I look forward to trampling on you all with my elephants.
Best regards.
Andrew.

Well, we have 5 boards or so filled now, so I am making a push to get
the last dozen-odd slots filled. If any of you wish me to extend
personal invitations to players who you think would be worthy
opponents, contact me at zendip18AToptonlineDOTnet and give me their
names and emails.
Of course, if there are any Diplomacy forums of which you are a
member, on which you have not seen one of my announcements, please do
feel free to put up a post there. At this point I am still thinking
we will start in early March.

Well, since you were kind enough to ask:

where stalemate lines are much less likely to have a major influence on games.
Two comparatively minor rule changes (river convoys and modified chaos builds),

Over 4 boards filled, so slots for less than 20 players remain open. With some
very well known names in the player, GM and administration columns, the level of
play should be high. Please contact the Tournament Director, David Cohen, at

some other way.

Sure, send me the basic notice you want to put up, I can post it on

We are now up to 4 full boards. Only 3 more to go. I request again that anyone
who is a member of a non-English speaking forum please post a notice (I can give
it to you) there, prefaced by a 1 or 2 sentence intro in the language of the
forum. Someone did this in some of the German forums for me and it brought in
multiple players. So, if some French, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian,
etc., speaking players do this as well, we should be able to being in some more
people. Also, consider inviting someone you feel would be a worthy opponent.
All the GM slots are now filled (though it wouldn't hurt to have some people in
reserve), and we have an Assistant TD (Frank Bacher), and a fully staffed
Tournament Review Committee.
I am still hoping for Spring 1501 moves around March 1 or shortly thereafter.
For those who have not played the variant before, once we have the rosters set,
I will post some illustrative examples to further clarify the special River
Convoy and Build rules.
Over 3 boards full now, so a little under four boards needed. We also
have 1 open GM slot. Contact me if you are interested.
Try a variant that has the same basic feel and scale as Standard
Diplomacy, but is more balanced, with a wider variety of play options
for all the Powers, and where stalemate lines are much less likely to
have a major influence on games. Two comparatively minor rule changes
(river convoys and modified chaos builds), so you won't need to spend a
lot of time getting up to speed.
Rules and info about the variant and the tourney can be found at the
variant homepage: http://diplomiscellany.tripod.com/diplomacy/id4.html ,
or in the files section of the maharajahsdiplomacy yahoogroup.
The rules and organization of the Maharajiad are somewhat similar to the
Worldmasters Tournament, but there are several significant differences.
Here is a summary of some of the most important Tournament information:
1. To register as a player or GM, or if you wish to help out in some
other way, contact me. You will need to give your full name. You may
submit a preference list if you wish to enter as a player. Registration
to the yahoogroup is highly advisable, since that is where
tournament-wide announcements will be made.
2. Board assignments will be completed within one week after a full
roster of GMs and players is set.
3. The Tournament is individual only, with no team aspect.
4. It is a two round, top-and-advance tournament, with the first round
lasting until 1510 (from 1501-so it is a 10 year game) and the second
round having no time limit.
5. This is a "full press" Tournament.
6. GMs may adjudicate "by hand", with Realpolitik, or if a judge keeper
permits, by adapting a judge for adjudication, but no player will be
required to submit orders directly to a judge.
7. NMRs will be allowed, and the Tournament will run on a 5 turn basis,
at a pace of approximately 1 game year every two weeks.
8. Each GM will publish results of his or her particular game both in
the maharajahsdiplomacy yahoogroup, and in one of his or her usual
forums, so as to help publicize the variant.

Hello, all. Signups for the Tournament are progressing, albeit slowly, at the
rate of about a board a week (two and one half boards full right now). With a
little luck, we should be able to start the first round of the Tournament around
March 1.
Frank Bacher (Assistant TD, by the way) will be posting one of my invitation
emails on some German-speaking boards. I see we have a multinational group
here, so I am wondering if some of you might put a post on some other
non-English boards, with just a short intro in the relevant language, saying
that the Tournament will be run in English. I would love to see some of the
French, Spanish, Swedish, Brazilian, etc. players in the Tournament.
In addition, please feel free to invite anyone you'd like to play against. If
everyone can recruit one player, we'd be most of the way there already. Next
update email I send out will include a roster, so you can see who is playing.
We have a pretty good field so far

We have two boards full, five more to go. Contact me if you are interested.
Staff slots are basically full, and we have a very capable, talented and
experienced group. Maybe one more GM, one more Assistant TD, and one
more Tournament Review Committee member would be nice.

Go for it. I've got a couple of boards filled so far, but we will
probably need another month of recruiting. And somehow, I would guess
you are not quite so bad as you say you are.

How goes the recruitment for the tourney? I really suck at variants
but I am seriously considering this one just 'cause I feel that playing
the game helps me understand it better as GM.......... besides
someone's got to be the first dead :/

Sorry for the crossposting. Title says it all. For now, you will need
to contact me, and I will send you a zipped package, but when I get
around to it, the download will be available on the variant home page:

Please note that the special river convoy and build rules are *not*
implemented. GMs will need to handle them manually.
