I like that approach since it makes it a bit more flexible in allowing
for an appropriate skill that fits the situation. Kinda like the White
Wolf system.
Whoops. That was a straight-up typo. Sorry about that. The
controlling stat would be Wits not Nimbleness. I am thinking I might do
away with controlling stats all together. I have ended up using a
vaiety of stat+skill combos in my own game that are outside that rigid
structure.
For example: The companions had travelled for several days during
harsh weather and almost to a man (elf and dwarf) were exhausted. It is
decided to have the dwarf stand guard while the rest of the companions
recover. Instead of making a Perception+Observe Test to notice an
approaching Warg the dwarf rolls Vitality+Observe with appropriate
penalties due to fatigue and the conditions. This would simulate his
fatigue and ability to resist it and remain alert. What do you guys
think?

James has done a great job with this. I am currently starting a
group up with these rules and I have never seen a group jump at the
chance to play a game in Middle Earth as quickly as they did when
they saw these adapted rules.
So my question to those who have seen them and hopefully have used
them. What are your overall impressions, thoughts you name it. Since
there is going to be a finalized version at some point. Is there
anything folks think need to be clarified or tweaked?
I have spoken to James on several occasions via email so he knows my
impressions of his large body of work here. In short I love it! And
I have been waiting for someone to adapt LotR to Uni-system and we
have a winner here. Awesome work and if possible lets help out James
where need be if any. I am not saying major overalls or anything
just suggestions on explanations on rules that maybe are not as
clear or complete, such as the reference to craft items as mentioned
in the Hoarde Quality. Which upon asking about James responded and
will be added to the final version.
Again, awesome job! You should be proud of what you have done.
Take care.
Sure. I am mostly running a series of adventures inspired by
the "Triumph of the Witch-King" adventures that can be found on the
Hall of Fire webzine site. I will send you the details in a private
email because I don't want my players to find out too much here.

Thanks a lot. I spent a lot of time working on it and it is
gratifying that others will get something out of it. It was a little
strange at first making "classes" for Unisystem but I felt my players
(who had only played D&D 3.5 at that point) needed some structure to
work with. As for the animals, the only other critter I probably need
to work on (aside from the aforementioned werewolves and vampires)
would be Dragons and possibly Ents. Let me know how your game goes.

I just thought there would be more critters but it is not like (with
what you have created here) it would be hard to make them at all. You
should be proud of this conversion though. This is some great body of
work and I really love what you have done here. I just like how with

I can't say that I have thought about adding too many more critters.
I might adapt the Tolkienesque Vampires and Werewolves and do a little
work on ghosts but other than that I haven't thought about it too
much.
I am in the middle of my campaign using these rules right now and I
think I will release a final edition with some changes made based on
my experiences there. That might be a ways down the line though. I
have already started adding some more herbs and I may fiddle with some
of the combat stuff.

of this going at some point. But was wondering if you were ever
thinking of doing a book of critters? Or Stuff on the Movies?
Yes there are many substantial differences. There is
much more magic and rules on Herbalism, Mass Combat
rules, more stuff on the Lore Skill etc.
I would suggest you print it out in Black and White.
I made it so that it wouldn't take too much black ink
if you did it that way. Let me know what you think of
it if you get a chance.

Thank you very much. I did work pretty hard on this game but it was a
labor of love. I am very excited since I will get to actually run the
game starting next Wednesday. I may have a new version out before
then that will encompass all the information in PotW as well as have
new travel rules and mass combat which I am working on today. Enjoy
it and thanks for the comments.

Thank you. I am glad you are enjoying the conversion.
Since I leaned heavily on Decipher's rules I imagine
my conversion would be very close to yours if you had
the same goals in mind. I would be interested to hear
what you plan on changing since I have yet to get a
chance to play these rules myself. I am hoping that
will change in the next couple of weeks though.

I just wanted to say thanks to the creator of the unisystem LotR
conversion. For the last several weeks I've been enjoying playing the
game with my friends.
A couple years ago I started my own conversion of Decipher's LotR RPG
to Unisystem, but I got caught up in work and never got it done.
Interestingly, what I had completed is similar to some of the things
you put in your conversion.
I was wondering if you could send me a copy of your main conversion
and the Paths of the Wise supplement as a Microsoft Word document.
This would make it easier for me to modify as I add my own conversions
and expansions and such. I'm not sure if these is even possible, but
I thought I would ask.
Thanks again! Keep up the good work!

Hello, Everyone. This is an update on this Lord of the Rings
conversion.
While working on some new features for my LotR Game I have discovered a
couple of errors. Specifically I have used the word "Stamina" several
times throughout the section on Weariness and Recovery instead of the
correct term "Vitality". Wherever you see that just know that I
meant "Vitality". Sorry about that.
I am currently working on a few new features for the game such as new
Weariness Rules for traveling long distances, Mass Combat rules, among
other things.
Let me know if you discover any other errors or if something seems
confusing in the rules. Thanks.
James
Indeed it is a labor of love. I truly think Unisystem is one of the
best systems out there but it did take a lot of work to convert it so
contained the flavor of LotR.
I look forward to hearing about how your game goes. Because of
various shedules it looks like I might be delayed in playing the game
which sucks. I am jonesing so bad to get it going.

Hello,
I downloaded your conversion rules and I have to say you did an
excellent job, this is truly a work of love. I will try to get my
group to playtest them in about 2 or 3 weeks.
I been looking for a way to play fantasy with unisystem for a long
time and this has just sold me and my group.
thanks.
Yeah man that is an excellent document. Thanks for
doing all that work.

adding Improvements on a few spells. Other than that it just has a nicer color

That's great. Although I have to admit to being a bit jealous. You
will actually get to try my rules before I do. :)
And I look forward to hearing what you have to say. When you work on
something for so long you kind of loose a bit of your perspective. I
am sure there are a number of things that I missed when making these
rules. Keep me posted.

Thanks for the comments. I am glad to hear you liked
what I have done with this. As for the Character

version. Sorry.

Hey excellent work on all the Lord of the Rings materials. The
download is incredible and the PDF character sheet is excellent is
well. I was wondering if you had the character sheet in a word format
if possible. Again excellent work on everything.
I guess I will start off making a post here. I invite everyone to post
ideas or thoughts on this version of the LotR or any other Fantasy or
Unisystem topic that may come to mind. Thanks.
