Re: Damage system question

The Damage System might work for a more gritty game like AFMBE though. I also
toyed with getting rid of Life Points altogether and come up with something
along the lines of Mutants and Mastermind's damage system. But that would be a
lot of work.

It makes an elf with a 2 STR and a high skill a very credible threat to such
creatures. All that being said it would be simplicity itself to ignore the
changes I made to the damage system and just go with traditional CineU system.

as I ran my game that while it made things a bit grittier as was intended it
ultimately didn't work for LotR. It made my players VERY reluctant to take
risks for fear of the consequences of taking a major wound. While this is a
practical POV it didn't really foster the Heroics I was expecting from them.
Once I dropped it they became much less timid and the game improved.

is pretty much what I was shooting for. When I was making the game I ran a
couple of test combats and noticed that many of the standard enemies in LotR
(trolls and orcs) have a high STR. Because of that I realized that the PCs
wouldn't really last long in fights. Hence the change.

had a 6 STR and a high ax skill and a human warrior with a 2 STR and
Ambidexterity and a REALLY high knife skill. They had very different styles in
battle but both were very effective in a fight. The Dwarf actually cut a Troll
down with a single blow at one point and few of his foes could actually survive
a hit by him unless they were hiding behind a shield. Then it would take two
blows. :D

godlike stat for fighters. Str seems to be less important if Dex (and skill)
drives the majority of damage, and the strong but slow concept seems to become
obsolete. Dex also allows you to go more quickly, and avoid damage. It becomes
/way/ more important than Str.
