Some one must have built a scenario before hand in order for one to
load it up and play.
Search back a bit, I think there is a Warmaster demo scenrio somewhere

Hello everyone,
I really have no idea how to work this program and perhaps I am
misunderstanding its capabilities but I was wondering if you could use
it to play Warmaster. I know the manual says it can play any tabletop
game but im a bit lost as to how to set it up. Does the user have to
configure the scenarios? Or is there a scenerio that would have all the
armies and all the rules built into it?
Thanks
It has seen no action for a while.... It is a neat little program
though, and if you have an oponent willing to learn it as well, you could have a ball. I believe that Lex's guide to it is still in the file section as well

It is a program that was made to (re)play Warmaster battles, and runs with Java. No fancy drag and pull stuff, so you need to "code" stuff like "Unit A move 100 (=10cm)" etc
it takes some gettin used too, but it does work for eg. postal games
Where can I get this software? Is Battlespeak a tabletop program?
i have made a tabletop for cyberboard but the units can only wheel
around there middle, not a pivot point.

Look at Battlespeak for the wheeling etc... that was made with Warmaster foremost in mind and although it is more involved (you need to "create" commandlines for it to work, and typing up the code may be a bit dificult for some, but it does work (we use to use Battlespeak for WM testruns)

It's currently better suited to small-scale games, where each unit is represented by a single soldier. There's no support for wheeling entire formations, and, while you can measure the
range to another unit, there's no way right now to measure how far your unit is moving. You CAN, however, move lots of units at once, or have them all change their facing with a single command.

Is it possible to convert BG to a miniatures game with wheeling and
all? If so are there any modules out for such?

You might also want to try this software for that:

It comes with both square and hex bases of various sizes built in, so it might
be ideal for
what you are trying to do.
Hi,
I tried to use the sw to play a DBM like kind of game. Typically same
kind of units but only with 3 size of bases os 2x4cm , 4x4cm and 8x4cm.
Do I have to be an expert on design annd other kind of skills, or does
it exists a startup kit?
Basically, what i'm looking for is for the bases and the overlays to
play an Antique/Medieval game
Thanks for the feedback
And sorry if this quiestion deosn't make much sense
I think the version online is for 1.4 or 1.5

I'm far from being an expert but, in my limited experience, it's
usually due to a mismatch between the java runtime version you are
using and the one the program expects.
1.6.0_03 is a fairly recent version - do the LCW files include an older
version?
Far from a guaranteed fix but worth checking.

I've uploaded LCW source code to google.code here:
http://code.google.com/p/littlecyberwar/
Now my eclipse plugin died overnight so I am not sure if ALL the files
are loaded. I'll check tonight. In the meantime if you are REALLY
impatient you can start looking at it.
After verifying everything is there, my next task is to update the
wiki associated with the project with design documents. I plan to have
something new at least once a week until everything is documented.

If you've made the decision to open source it, it would be nice if you
could slap an appropriate license on it and check it into google code
or source forge and file a bug report (with the bug you identified!).
As the maintainer of a small open source project (at
http://code.google.com/p/aima-java/) I know from experience that it is
very hard to publish code which the author(you in this case) thinks is
suboptimal. I hesitated for a long time to publish code which I wrote
for my personal use because i thought it was too yucky, lacked
documentation etc. My experience in this (fwiw) is that people are
glad to see even sub optimal code and will jump in and fix anything
that needs fixing.
If you check it in to google hosting or source forge, it will be
easier for people to send patches etc.
However, it *is* your code . You have to decide what you want to do
and when. :-)
So please don't consider any of the above to be "pressure" !!

ravi

Ravi
Yes I do plan to. In fact I can even send you what I have if you don;'t mind the lack of documentation... (it has a bug in it , but if you are ok with that)

Hello,
i was just wondering if the open source effort ever picked up steam.
We (The India Wargamers - http://indiawargame rs.com) are contemplating
creating a similar utility. if LCW were open sourced, we could
probably add to it instead of building our own variant.

Thanks to all of you who cared enough about the project to comment. I'll start doing some docs after the tax season and then just put the code out there and see what happens...

Have to agree with your initial statements and rebuttal Dale. And no, I don't work for Microsoft...
Having released my own bit of open source code I know all about the refactoring trap. There will always be one bit of code or another that you want to rewrite so that it is more clear or more efficient. There are also those little embarrassing items like your first attempt at doing something that just looks awful now that you know better ways of accomplishing the same goal. In my case I have two methods that do nearly identical processes with some small tweaks. I started going about refactoring them and two days later I still wasn't done. At that point I had to look at the time I was putting into it Vs. the amount of good the refactoring would bring. In the end I decided to scrap it and put it down as something to revisit later since it was taking too much time and didn't really make much of a difference to the program as a whole.
My advice to you Milton is that if you are going to do Open Source, just publish the code and let people start picking it apart. What you may find is that no one really cares about the areas you thought for sure they would be looking at and would require lots of documentation. If someone really wants to know about an area, they'll ask about it and when they do that is where you focus your energy.

Is that supposed to be an insult?
> After, all, we the world doesn't need reliable, maintainable code - > just lots of new releases, one right after another, which often > introduce as many new bugs as they fix.
Is that sarcasm or a political statement?
I'm not really sure what your point is. Is it that the documentation that I recommended doesn't lead to reliable and maintainable code? Do you think that ONE person trying to refactor code until they are happy
with the result is more EFFICIENT than having multiple people work towards the same, documented goal?
