I am going to run a big RPG event most likely including Call of Cthulhu,
AFMBE, Vampire. I will let everyone know more when I figure it all
out. I will need to get with you Chris.

I will probably also run some Ambush Alley.

For those who missed it on thursday night the Jax Garrison team managed a razor
thin 3 point win over the South Florida Gamers in the semi annual challenge
match. The scenario this time was members of the ill fated Torpedo 8 at Midway
attempting to attack a Japanese carrier. Points were awarded for downing a
Japanese aircraft, successfully launching a torpedo and for hits.

Due to my performance (first American torpedo bomber shot down in the game) Chip
has asked in the future I cover up my affliation with Jax Garrison with black
tape on my polo shirt.

The A6M2-N float plane version of the Zero did extremely well, suffering only a small loss in its legendary maneuverability.

Top speed was not affected, however, the aircraft's relatively light armament was a detriment.

Spitfire "tipping-off" a V1. If you've never heard of this insane tactic ....

At first V1's were shot down by gunfire. Optimum range was inside 200yds, which was marginal for survival. Many planes were damaged and quite a few pilots killed. Basically at such high speed and low altitude a plane had to fly though the explosion and hope.

With the high risk of being blown up some of the best pilots started tipping the V1's wing, because of damage to wing tips they later developed a tactic of disrupting the airflow by placing their wing very close to the V1's wing, causing it to topple.

Not every pilot did this. At night this was not possible, the flame from the V1 blinded the pilot to everything else, though some Mossie pilots flew past closely in front of the V1, again causing it to topple. The thought of doing this at 450mph, 4,000 feet above the ground, at night and being blinded gives me the willies.

Chip,
I'd be happy to run my Victorian Science Fiction game When the Navy Walked after the meeting.  I will bring enough armies to run several games at once so that everyone gets a chance to play!

I will also be running a demo game of my Victorian Science Fiction game on October 24 at my house from 2pm until 5pm.  Please let me know if you wish to attend.  Also the rules are on sale on wargamevault.com for only 10 dollars until the end of the month in anticipation of the Conflict on Mars! supplement.

I sent a pdf file that contained all of the game maps for Valor & Victory to these guys -- http://www.fabricondemand.com and these are the results.

This photo is blue as hell for some reason so don't use the color to judge the quality of the print.  This is one yard of fabric, with a 60 inch print width.  All the maps were submitted as a combined single image and this chunk of cloth is almost corner to corner of the printable region for a one-yard purchase.  $22 delivered.

The true colors are brighter than these flash photos show, but I wanted to put a few shots in to show the level of detail.  This is on a tight cotton weave.

A very tight close-up.  Valor & Victory maps have big 1.25" hexes and the sizing is dead-on-balls accurate (a technical term).  The smallest print on the maps is for the hex identifiers -- J5 in the center hex above and it is very readable.  The thread grain puts just a hint of ripple in the edges of the pond in the image above.

It's not as clear as paper, but the result is excellent and short of a cigarette lighter likely indestructible.  Spills or smears can be washed away and the ability to fold these critters up and drop them in a suitcase could be pretty doggone useful.  I can imagine an ASL player printing to both sides and having ALL of their maps on a ten foot roll that they could stuff in their suitcase.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Nick and I just moved to Jax a few months ago. I'm very much into
games of every kind, most notably eurogames, designer games, RPGs and Advanced
Squad Leader (I never have anyone to play with!). Needless to say, I'm very
excited to have found this group and I'm looking forward to great gaming!

Welcome Nick.  I am not sure what side of town you are on but I am looking to get a small group together to game a few times a month.  I am into pretty much all gaming.  www.armchairgeneral1.blogspot.com

Hello All!
Like Nick, I've just moved to Jacksonville. I'll play anything once! I've been
playing mostly Euros lately, but also love minis (Battletech, Mordheim, Blood
Bowl), and historicals.

And, like Nick, I'm a one-time ASL player who's rusty from lack of opponents.
Maybe us new guys should get together for some serious rules lawyering?

Look forward to gaming with everyone in the near future!

Hi Rob,

Sounds great. I'm over in Southside, so I should be able to meet up anywhere
pretty easily.

Hey Ben,

I've been gearing up to get back into ASL lately, so I'm working my way through
the rules when I can. An ASL get together would definitely help the process
along. Do you get onto VASL at all?

I need to shake off the rust before I do VASL. I haven't done full ASL in 5 years. Since then, I've done a couple of starter kit scenarios and that has been it. I'm happy to get my butt kicked in order to get back up to speed, but face to face would be a faster tune up.

The good news is that I'm free all weekend. I'm in Jax Beach. Or we could meet up at  Borderlands if they have an open play area.

Chip-
I assume that this occurs at Borderlands?

Also, should I assume that Space Alert will be a chaotic mess where we all die because two of us tried to use the red zone ladder at the same time? :)

Hope to see you there!

Ben

I'm in the same boat. I was just getting into full ASL when I stopped playing.
I'm perfectly happy working my way through the starter kits back to the full
rules. Besides the rare live game, the only way I used to play was going
through the starter kit scenarios on VASL while trying to learn the full rules.

A live game would be great, I'm over in Southside. I'm headed to Gainesville
for the game on Saturday, but hopefully I'll be back early enough on Sunday that
we can get a game in.

Yes this will be at Borderlands. And yes, Space Alert is pretty tough.
