I just wanted to see if anyone was having luck with playing multiplayer
over a network using Windows XP. My friends and I used to love playing
this game multiplayer, so I thought I would check again. I hope
someone is still out there. Any help is appreciated.

I just set the group for new member moderation, so there shouldn't be any

Ok so it's not so hot now, in fact, it's 2 month old news... BUT, I
did just recently find out about it and I haven't seen any talk about
it in this group. Actually I haven't seen much talk about anything in
this group.
Strategy First just released a new update to the JA2 series, it's
called WildFire and is basically a mod of the original JA2 game.
That's all really irrelevant though, the interesting part, is that
they released the JA2 sorce code with it. As far as I can tell, it's
the source code all the way up to the gold version (the first release
from SF).
And this brings me to a question:
1. Any coders, hackers, modders in this group interested in a little
project? I think I'm gonna call it JA2: Deadlier Games. It would
actually be 2 projects, one to strip out the core tactical game and
smack some multiplayer on top of it, and the second would be to turn
the game into a single sector mission based game.
Eventually, it would be nice to be able to do multiplayer single
sector mission based campaigns as well, but at first, we'll do single
scenarios that are not linked.
Be forwarned though, the code itself is daunting, it's alot to take
in, I'd estimate somewhere around 200k lines of code in roughly 50
source files. It was compiled in VC6 so you'll need access to that in
order to join up. Let me know if you are interested.
Hallo Hossein,
here's a good forum about JA2 where you'll find all information to the
game and some very good mods:

Sorry, this list is about Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games, not JA2. If
anyone wanted to contact you off list, that would be fine. Or if you had
any comments about JADG, that would be cool too.

Acyf88,I saw u were the most acessible guy here, could u please tell
me what the difference among all the different orders & in combat
options in the NPC info?
With this,I think I will build better scenarios from now on.
thx.
Wish I could help you, I'm running two win98 machines with IPX and neither of
them see each other through DG. We play TCP/IP AND IPX games multiplayer ALL the
time, but DG just refuses to see the connection. I've pulled my hair out trying
to fix it and finally just gave up on the game altogether.

Subject: [jadg] Long term fan needing serious assistance with LAN and
direct connect multiplay
Hello and thanks for keeping this great game alive! :)
I really could use all possible suggestions on the following
problem, and Iīll try to be as accurate as I can...
Iīve been able to play dg through direct connect (com port) with my
friends computer and laptop. Now I have two computers myself (with
win98 and winxp) and i tried to hook them up with a serial cable. It
worked straight away but ONLY for that night, the following day it
didnīt run smoothly, with the win98 computer. After every two mercīs
steps the game freezes for 5 or more secs. The single player gaming
works perfectly on both computers. And I have tried every possible
com port setup, non of them seems to affect the problem.
So, I established a LAN connection between the two. It works fine
also, I can share the hard drives and I even played Counterstrike
with my friend. But, when I tried the multi player network game with
the deadly games, the two machines didnīt seem to find each other. I
have tried to find similar questions and answers but none of them
helps, I mean I have the IPX installed (with WINXP it seems it goes
hand-to-hand with netbios, I have them both on both computers and dg
should then prefer IPX, according to the README file??)
So, I have a direct connect option which doesnīt run smoothly at all
as it used to just 2 days ago, AND I have a WORKING LAN connection
between the two machines and the game doesnīt seem to recognaise
it?!
Please, anyone, Iīm crying my eyes out, help me. Whithout this game
the life isnīt worth living for. :(
P.s. Whats the KHAN? Only for internet gaming? There was some
problem with the link....and the patch? Nothing to do with this I
guess...?

I just got my second copy of JADG in the mail, and installed it on my
second PC. Tried to get multiplayer to work and the second PC just
says "looking for games waiting for players". I tried hosting on both
machines.
My setup is Cable modem connected to a 1-port Lynksys Router plugged
into the uplink port of a 5-port lynksys hub, and then both PC's
connected to the Hub.
Each PC has a 10/100 Network card (also from Lynksys).
TCP/IP, and IPX/SPX Compatible Protocols both bound to the network
card. NetBios disabled.
And running the DG1.13 patch on both machines (although the second PC
crashes regularly while running the game with that patch).
Any Suggestions? I might try just connecting an Ethernet cable
straight between the machines and see if that works, but I'm not sure
if you can set it up that way and if so I'm not sure wether I would
need a cross-over cable or a straight through cable.
Also, if I can't get this to work, I may try Direct Connect witha
Null Modem Cable, anyone know of any problems doing it that way?
Would I need any special software or anything? Or just plug in the
cable select a Com port and go?
I'm more of a lurker, but I know that a company bought the rights to the entire JA series, but I forget their name. However, Ian is working with them to the best of my knowledge, and while there is no official word, they are possibly still working on JA3. So, I wouldn't hold your breath for them to release the source, but it might not totally be out of the question, either.
Anyone know? Ian posted a long time ago that they might make changes,
and there was very limited talk about releasing the source code at
least in part... But he was still with SirTech then, not sure what's
happened with that lately.
Anyone really around on this list anymore?

Random campaign - takes scenarios at random from the scenario folder
and throws them at you. I think it tries to pick them based on
it's "perceived" difficulty, but it can and often does assign you
missions that are beyond your current squads ability to finish. While
it may be extremely difficult, most of them are not impossible. And
it doesn't happen often enough to cause too many problems.
Generated Campaign - Generates random missions on the fly. (Am I
right about this next part? it's been a while) It will also take maps
from the scenario folder and assign random missions to them if the
group starting positions were included in the map. Thus, if the map
happens to have random starting positions but was NOT built for
random mission generation, it could also cause the "impossible to
solve" missions. Like putting an NPC that needs to be photographed in
an inaccessible portion of the map, behind an impassible strand of
trees etc...
So both can actually put you in very difficult or impossible
situations. I prefer the randomly generated maps, and make sure that
any maps in my scenario's folder either do not contain impassible
areas or do not contain group starting points so they won't be used.
Unfortunately alot of scenario designers on the net, put random group
starting points in their maps because there is no readily available
manual on scenario creation, and the scenario tells you that there
aren't any group starting positions, so it makes it sound neccessary
to add them.
Anyone know if there is a guide anywhere on creating scenarios?
Some of it is easy enough to figure out if you play with it enough,
and edit the scenarios that come with the game. Some of it is not.
For instance, is it possible to add in all 8 NPC's as enemies? I know
you can set the mission to kill one, but they always seem to run
away. How do you make them fight like the red shirts?
1. You need a .bin .iso or a original disc of the game.
2. Start command.com from the start menu. Command.com emulates ms-
dos on xp. If command.com doesn't work, try to change the attributes
in a submenu of the dg.exe to "work under windows 98/95".
3. If the game doesn't start now, go home and cry. This works for me.
Questions, mail me at bredband@...
Excuse for bad english.

You're right. I like generated campaigns because random campaigns often
give you missions you can't complete.

I (think) only need this lastest questions to complete a fully set of
things that I had researched about DG.Answer these and probably I'll
give you a long break, playing this more satisfied and with nearly no
questions for the next couple of months.
k,brian?
Which do you prefer?

Can't you tell your preference? This list is a chat too, isn't it?

I recommend you get a manual for the game as it explains all these
things
in detail.
k,can you tell me where to get this damn manual? Can you send only
this part(orders & combat) to me(scanned or typed)?

Random ou generate campaign(both infinite)?

more time.

Also read carefully the mission's objective.
