jzIntv on Pandora

I just dug around the Pandora site a bit, and it looks like SDL is there for Pandora. So, porting jzIntv to Pandora will be a snap.  It might even build out-of-the-box with "Makefile.linux".

If someone on the list has a Pandora and wants to assist with building a port, give me a holler.

Christopher,

Rick Reynold's port to the GP2X proves that it should work pretty straightforwardly.  The Pandora's processor is much more powerful than what's in the GP2X (by 3x or more), so there's plenty of CPU.

jzIntv can run either on the ARM or the DSP.  I've ported jzIntv to the C64x+ DSP in the past, and that's what OMAP 3530 uses in its DSP subsystem.

The big question is whether there's an SDL port available.  If there is, it'll be trivial to move jzIntv onto Pandora.  If there isn't, there will need to be an adapting layer to get events into jzIntv and sound/video out.  It's not that hard to do.  Tim Lindner proved this long ago with a non-SDL port to MacOS 9.  Heck, jzIntv once used Allegro rather than SDL... :-)

The rest of the work involves tweaking the keybindings and wrapping a UI around it.

If anyone managed to snag a Pandora dev unit and the dev tools, and if there's an SDL port, let me know if you have problems building jzIntv.  You ought be able to build on ARM with a few tweaks to Makefile.gp2x to omit plat/plat_gp2x. o (that mainly has code for changing ARM's clock speed on the GP2X), and removing -DGP2X from the build flags.  If you get that working, we'll see about integrating it as a first-rate port.

(Hmm.... I also need to get that scale2x/4x stuff in there.)

Regards,

--Joe

Any chance of getting a jzintv port to the Pandora?

I was actually considering learning iphone programming and
investigating porting jzintv over. I'd love it if Keith's app was a
true emulator that let us load cart images -- I'd pay a pretty good
price for that, actually.

But I'd guess that individual games would probably sell better to most
folks, i.e. folks who aren't involved in the INTV hobbying community.

Thanks,
Rick Reynolds
