My name is Gary, I wanna meet any INWO Gamers who live in or are
visiting Melbourne Australia, for a few games and other civilised
past-times. If necessary, I can provide all the cards, as I have an
OWE set, many duplicates, a SubGenius set, and a lot of Assassins
cards. I also have a detailed HTML cross-referenced site about this
game ready to go online in early 2003. This may (or may not) help
you with you strategies and deck-building. Best regards.

Hello,

A friend handed me a large stack of cards he received while working
for a store. He did not want to deal with them. In the stack an
Illuminati card titled:

Trading Card Game

Is this of any value to any of you or is it Trash to be tossed out?

Please drop me an email so as not to "SPAM" the list any more then I
just did :-)

The Warbuilder,

I don't know about playing by programs like apprentice, but Martin
some others and I all played via Yahoo Messenger and had a great
game. I wasn't used to non table play so I had to lay everything out
like that myself. I thought we all had a great time and I even got
some positive feedback about it afterwords. I just haven't got
around to seeing if anyone wanted a rematch.

Wow! I could've MAILED that message and got a reply faster! Boy! That
announcement was AGE AGO!

Don't tell me you live on a private island, where you have to catch the Net
in *just* the right weather conditions. ;)

Anyways...

I've not started into the project, due to college consideration. It took a
while, but I did get a copy of ThemeMaker, and I'm posited to overtake
Apprentice with the New World Order!

Y! Messenger is fine, and I'd take it for voice comms anyday. :) That said,
I kinda like the idea of seeing iconic representations of the actual cards,
on a virtual board (especially for those that do not have all the
cards -blasphemy, I know). Apprentice is 1-vs-1 through direct play,
however, if you are playing MP, you could just use it as a reference board,
and plonk down anything (just make a deck and throw about 2 or 3 of
everything you think will be used in the game in). A cheap workaround, but
it would do.

At the present, I've not officially asked Mr. Jackson for his express
permission to proceed with this project, so I will not continue (officially)
without it. My goal is not to circumvent a great game, or the wishes of
it's creator, only provide an as-to-use, over the Net, fun way to enjoy the
play of INWO. I enjoyed playing the Battletech: CCG when it was in, and I
don't think there were many that played that were without cards at all (if
you know anything about the game, and are interested in online play, you
most likely either have the card, or know someone with an ubercollection
just down the street). ;)

Well that's all from me. Once I get the permission and the theme set up, I
will inform everyone, provide a location for downloading the Apprentice
application and the patch required to play INWO through it. I'm probably
gonna need betatesters before too long anyways...I'll add it all to my list
of things to do next week (March break here in Nova Scotia).

Take easy.

Hi all,
is it just me or is INWO finally dead in the water.

Was it because Assassins was weak?
Was it because SubGenius was worse?
Was it because Bavarian Fire Drill never came out?
Or was it simply because the learning curve was too steep?

You tell me,
if anyone is still here that is :/

Well whatever it is, I doubt highly that you ever hear anything from SJ
Games that the game is officially defunct (like you keep the options open).

It's a neat game, and thanks to the last 2 years, there's plenty of card
goodness to build an entire expansion on...however...

the game does suffer the same way most other games suffer: without something
to keep it going, it peters out and players find something else to entertain
them.

I think the game is fascination, and once you get over that learning curve,
it can be quite challenging. However, gaming today is about trying to get
players to be able to jump into a game as quickly as possible -no time to
take and learn a system or read the rules.

I wouldn't say the game suffered because of it's expansions, but the notion
that the game was more about deck construction, and less about collecting
the cards doesn't seem to appeal to very many (even if it's more fair and
inherently superior). Oh well -good ideas take longer to be accepted over
accepting the same ol' crap changed around or gussied up.

Peace Martin,

Good question. Just because a game doesn't get new expansions doesn't
necessarily mean it is dead.

I'm still here...

And I'm been thinking a lot of how to create good tournament rules without
to many exceptions and special rules. The reason for this is that I've
hosted the Swedish Championship in INWO for 5 years or something, but the
last year I haven't had the energy to do it cause it's just not worth it
anymore; few players show up and it's almost always the same persons who
make the finals. I'd say that the last 3 years, the finals have always been
a match between the same 8 players.

Now, I recently came up with a very clever idea. INWO sealed deck with
boster draft. The only problem: THERE ARE NO STARTER DECK FROM W23. And I
haven't found one single starter during the last year. If ANYONE know
ANYPLACE to get starters, please send me a mail and you make me one happy
puppy.

Hi Bjorne,
sorry - can't help you with that.

However, how about this:
Play sealed deck with boosters only, and have each player pick the
illuminati of their choice. :)

AFAIK SJ Games has no plans for rereleaseing INWO or printing more starters.
For sealed deck I know MArc Sherman who hosts the INWO rating page did have
a deck generator which was about as close to a starter set listing as I
could find.
You could try generating a load of decks from that and putting them together
in sealed bags as starters and doing it that way.

Not to expensive, but I am willing to pay for shipping, taxes and the
orginal price of the decks. What did they cost when they still were around?
Between $10 and $15?

Yeah, I thought about that as well, but I don't think it will be the same
thing.

But that idea of using only boosters and letting the players pcik their
favorit illuminati wasn't that bad. But I'll think I'll do it a bit
different, I'm thinking something like the way you play a LotR CCG-draft.
You get a special draft pack-booster which includes a good base to build
your deck on, made out of 28 commons and 1 rare. Now, you can't use that
thinking straight of, but what if you get 3 random illuminatis, and a couple
of cards that work ok together or with the illumiantis included. What do you
think about that?

Or should you just give the players 3 random illuminatis and then do a
regular booster draft?

/Bjorne

Usually we are all totally fucked up on booze by then and so the
complexity of the rules no longer really matter. And Assassins
didn't suck that badly.

It's been around 3 months since the last DotW.
Since I had no from you guys submissions, I had to do one myself. I

Anyway, the new deck is a Shangri-La deck called the superman deck.
It's pretty good, and about as subtle as a hammer.

Hi all,
so I hear you saying that you're playing. Great!
Keep doing that :)

It was also said that when a game gets no company support it isn't
necessarily dead. True. Still, the way I see it, the fan base is
showing serious signs of fatigue. Consider:

*There has only been 2 submissions for deck of the week in the past
18 months.
*The INWO ratings and deck generator site has actually been
cancelled, and none of you knew about it.
*Issue 8 of the Dirty Tricks was created around 2 years ago. There
still isn't an issue 9, and issue 8 isn't available online.
*The homebrew database dies, and will never be fixed.
*Nobody has played a Deckathon game in over a year.
sigh.

Add to this the fact that BFD was cancelled, and that last years
official INWO competition still hasn't got a winner.
double-sigh.

See what I mean?

Hi all,
the Deckathon is grinding on at it's own slow pace. 6 more decks got
eliminated last night.

Anyway, a long time ago, Glen Barnett commented that he wasn't too
crazy about the deckathon, because people playing decks designed by
someone else were bound to make mistakes. This may very well be true -
which is why I've got this idea:

Take part in the Deckathon with a deck you've created yourself!
I don't know who lives where, but if some of you old secret masters
live close to eachother then you could have a true clash of the
titans.
Or - you could pit your own deck against friends playing decks
selected at random.

This is a great opportunity to play YOUR deck brilliantly, getting it
into the prestigious second round.

Come on - it'll be fun!
I shouldn't have to beg you to play inwo ;)

The players that still have unplayed decks are:

Brian Malcolm

Jeff Bailey
Darrin Bright
Steve Brinich
Aaron Curtis
Mike Dalton
Brian Davidson
Scott Furois
Steve Hatherley
Doug Ingram
Kevin Kennedy
Sam Kington
Martin Laerkes
Ralph Melton
Sean McGuire
Keith Page
Marc Sherman
Christian Stenner
Kevin S Tyrell
Alex Yeager

Regards
Martin
(mail me as normal for deck selection).

PS - naturally, you don't have be one of the listed players to join
the Deckathon. You're all very wellcome :)

I'm a new player and need to drum up interest in my local gaming circle
(currently 2 others) to get practiced up and comfortable with the game to do
any sort of semi-serious competing.

But before any of that, I have to enlarge the text on the cards and then
make it somehow convenient to use it during the game; my vision is bad and
the card text is hard to read on a good day. Heh

Hi Ryan,
newbie-ness shouldn't be a problem when joining the Deckathon. After
all, you're playing amongst yourselves, so you'll be able to play at
whatever pace you're used to.

However, a pretty big card collection (or the means to correctly
proxy cards that you don't have) are necessary, so not everybody can
play.

Good luck with converting the dupes... I mean rivals - and don't
tell them where you keep your magnifying glass ;)

just joined the list and we just started playing again recently. i
was in california last summer and a game shop i stopped in had the
deluxe inwo box, so i picked up that along with another sub-genius
pack to go with my current factory set. the only thing i'm missing
is a complete assassins collection. since the cards are hard to find
we generally play a one big deck game, though the idea of virtual
sealed decks sounds pretty cool also. this way it's whoever is the
best at playing what they're dealt. nice to see others out there
still playing.
