Happy New Year, everyone!
Oliver Stojkovic (oliverst@...) has joined the league as a late
entrant. The updated schedule can be found on the website.
I had to give out a lot of forfeits this time---try and find the time to
enjoy a game of Europe Engulfed this month! If you can't find opponents
when it is convenient for you, don't forget to use the Deadline Events,
either the regular one or one at a time of your choice.

Hi,
I need a game by December 31st, and I don't want to be forced to play on New
Year's Eve, so I am declaring this Tuesday, December 26th, at 8 PM EST (GMT
- 5) to be a Personal Deadline Event.
Anyone who shows up at 8 PM on Tuesday can be an opponent for me--even if I
am not on your schedule.
Everyone needs to play a game before next Sunday the 31st! If you can't
make the regular Deadline Event, schedule one of your own like I just did
(at least 48 hours in advance).

Hi everyone,
We had a great turnout when it came to league entries, but it seems that
many of the players have not been able to get together and play games. As I
normally do when the league's regular season is 25% over, I have removed the
players who have not played from the league. Usually, this is not a big
deal, but since there were so many players involved, it has rendered the
league's three division format useless. I have restructured things so that
we are all in the same division. These changes, along with the appropriate
schedule, can all be seen on the website.
Now that the league format has been changed, though, so must be the playoff
structure. Right now we have eight members, although I'lll be allowing a
late entry or two if there is anyone interested. The way I see it, there
are two possibilities that would be appropriate:
Option 1 (Ladder style): Four players make the playoffs. First, the 3rd
and 4th seeds play each other, then the winner of that game plays the 2nd
seed. Finally, the winner of the second game plays the 1 seed in a best two
out of three series.
Option 2: Five players make the playoffs. The 1 seed receives two byes and
a spot in the championship series. The remaining players play two rounds of
single elimination (2 vs. 5, 3 vs. 4) to determine who plays the 1 seed in
the championship. Once again, the Finals are a best two out of three.
I am undecided which one is the better option. I really don't like the idea
of changing the playoff rules once the season starts, but I feel it's
necessary this time. Anyway, I'm going to resolve this democratically--if
you have a preference, please let me know and I will decide based upon the
voting.
While I am writing this e-mail, I'd like to mention that everyone needs to
play a game by the end of the month in order to stay on schedule. The
Deadline Event for this month is on Sunday, December 31st. If you're like
me, you don't want to be committed to play EE on New Year's Eve, so if it
looks like you're not going to be able to get a game played, schedule a
Personal Deadline Event at a specific announced time so that you can either
play or be excused!
Happy Holidays and Good Gaming,
Bruce

Rick Y (Allies) defeated Jon E (Axis) in the tourney scenario.
Rick had 3 VP's as follows:
Axis never controlled two Soviet victory cities
Italy surrendered (on the last turn)
Allies controlled Oslo
Jon had 2 VP's
Leningrad Axis-controlled and supplied
Bomb hits did not exceed 10
(note- we both thought he lost that VP because the Allies scored exactly 10 bomb hits. I think the Axis get the VP if the total is less than 10, not 10 or less)
It was an exciting game, with the war clearly lost for Germany, but still fighting valiantly on all fronts.
Dennis Nicholson (Axis) defeats Ron Draker (Allies)
I spent heavily on fighters buying 4 every turn which kept the bomb
hits down to 5. The Allies surprised me with a first turn invasion of
Norway which gave Ron Oslo. The Allies on the second turn then invaded
Morocco and spent the next few turns clearing North Africa. The German
panzer made his way to Toburk before the main Allied army got there.
In July '43 a daring airborn asault combined with 4 4 factor infantry
units and an air unit took Leningrad. Then on the last turn I took
Moscow to deprive the Allies that VP. I ended up with 2 points (less
than 10 hits and Italian morale not collapsing( to 1 for the
Allies(Oslo). An interesting game.

Hi,
I am available for EE league game on saturday the 14th in the morning
or afternoon(EST). I will check my email and wargameroom periodically
during the day. I will next be at wargameroom chat at 9 EST. (morning)
Marc lecours
rubberchicken@...
my potential opponents are: Barry, Simon, Dave, Stuart P, Stuart T,
Dennis, Jeff, and Jon.
Rick Young (Axis) defeated Dave Hembold (Allies) by a score of 3:1
My three points were for Leningrad, Moscow, and Italian Morale not collapsing (Tobruk did not fall until the final Allied Combat Phase of Sep/Oct 1943).
Dave's point came from the Army Air Corps getting more than 25 bomb hits, despite my building four fighters every turn. Next Time I'll remember to equip them with Machine Guns :-)

Ron,
There is nothing to worry about league-wise, because I don't start handing
out forfeits until everyone is supposed to have three games played. Since
you will be behind, remember that you can schedule a Personal Deadline Event
at any time to catch up once you're, so long as you give us 48 hours advance
notice here on the mailing list.
If you (or anyone else) has any questions about Deadline Events, please let
me know!
Bruce

Jeff,
It looks like the invalid character is the 'c' in your name with the
cedilla:
"Jean-Fran>>>ç<<<ois Barry-Gosselin" <jfbg2000@...>
You should be able to change this to a regular 'c' in your hotmail
preferences. (And probably should to avoid running into these kinds
of email problems in the future)
I'm free to play this week any evening (including tonight) after about
5:45pm GMT-6 (Central US Time). What time zone are you in?
Michael
I Have tried multiple times to email you directly but it is impossible for me, whenever i send you a mail i get this weird mail, (include at the end of this mail) I received all your mail. So maybe you can send me directly another email adress i can communicate with you. Anybody know what the problem, i have tried making sure i didnt use any special characters in my name but still doesn't work.
By the way if anybody want to play a game this week i'm free every evening so give me some news.
Jeff still looking for is first game before exam rush begin...

WHAT IS AN INVALID CHARACTER IN MAIL HEADER?
The RFC 2822 standard specifies rules for forming internet messages.
It does not allow the use of characters with codes above 127 to be used
directly (non-encoded) in mail header (it also prohibits NUL and bare CR).
If characters (e.g. with diacritics) from ISO Latin or other alphabets
need to be included in the header, these characters need to be properly
encoded according to RFC 2047. This encoding is often done transparently
by mail reader (MUA), but if automatic encoding is not available (e.g.
by some older MUA) it is the user's responsibility to avoid the use
of such characters in mail header, or to encode them manually. Typically
the offending header fields in this category are 'Subject', 'Organization',
and comment fields in e-mail addresses of the 'From', 'To' and 'Cc'.
Sometimes such invalid header fields are inserted automatically
by some MUA, MTA, content checker, or other mail handling service.
If this is the case, that service needs to be fixed or properly configured.
Typically the offending header fields in this category are 'Date',
'Received', 'X-Mailer', 'X-Priority', 'X-Scanned', etc.
If you don't know how to fix or avoid the problem, please report it
to _your_ postmaster or system manager.

Dennis Nicholson Axis defeated Tim Gagnon's Allies by a score of 2-1.
The Allied bombing offensive was neutralised enought to only score 8
hits but the Italians were thrown out of Africa. The game was decided
by the fact that Torch was never launched and the Vichy French still
held Morocco!! Both sides made big mistakes. The Germans screwed up a
last turn attack on Leningrad while the Allies didn't buy any special
actions for the Americans on the last turn to exploit into Oslo to try
to win the game. Both of us are still learning the game and hopeful;ly
will get better in it, but we still had a lot of fun.
I believe Norway has already been conquered by the Axis at the start
of the game. If you look the setup (16.212-#5) it says to deploy
forces in Norway if you wish. iEE does let you do this too.

Bruce Wigdor's Allies defeated Dennis Nicholson's Axis with the victory
points tied.
This was a learning game; things were cautious on both sides and I don't
think any major mistakes were made.
Dennis scored a VP when my last remaining bomber came up short and missed,
leaving me with only 9 bomb hits for the game.
My VP was for keeping Dennis from controlling 2 key Russian spaces; he did
control Stalingrad for one brief moment.
The game went right down to the end though; Dennis launched an attack into
Moscow that only fell three infantry steps short of victory. Out of special
actions, Dennis couldn't do any more, and I was able to score an Allied
victory by taking a knee in my final action round.
I couldn't figure out how to invade Norway in this game; I tried to declare
war but it wouldn't work. I'm off to make sure that it's not a bug.
Bruce

Hello
My name is Jeff Barry, I'm from Canada. I'm kind of new to this kind
of league but I'm really looking forward my first EE internet game.
Althoug I've only played EE twice (both time the 39 campain) I think
it's the best game i ever played. So I'm looking for a beginner player
to play my frist game.
I have a lot of disponibility, and actually i'm willinmg to play a

Simon,
You are right about the templates from previous leagues; I guess I should
have proofread it better!
The correct place to send game reports is: ieel@yahoogroups.com
The default save file is eesave.wgr
Also, there's one place in the mail where it says the pace is one game every
two weeks--the correct pace is one game every FOUR weeks.
You are also right that your games can be played in any order you choose.
Bruce
