"OOC Seminar: Feature Characters (Reprise)"
12/28/02
Logfile from Echidna
Announcement: Echidna shouts "The OOC Seminar on Features is
beginning in the OOC - Meeting Room. Approved characters can get here
by typing '+ooc' and then taking the Meeting Room exit. Any players
who aren't approved yet who're interested in attending can page an
Admin to arrange transport."
Echidna peers around. "Well, I suppose that we shall get started.
Thanks for coming. First, there are a couple of changes to the
Features that I wanted to talk about, and then we'll open the floor
up for questions."
Echidna says "So, firstly... the Features have been reclassified.
There's no longer a distinction between a Star and a Cameo.
Additionally, we've upped the number of Features a player can portray
to 3, instead of 2."
Lupin cheers. Or, er, no. Don't need another FC.
Ruby giggles.
Hermione laughs.
Echidna grins.
Echidna says "'news updates' will show you exactly how the news files
have been changed. Really not much, besides the reclassification and
alt limits."
Echidna says "Secondly, and this isn't in the news yet, though it
will be soon... we're instituting something new called an FC Driver's
License."
"What on earth is /that/, you might ask?" says Echidna. "Well... it
gives you a license to drive a particular Feature Character for
scenes where it's either necessary or simply nice that they be in
attendance."
Hermione says "Such as those situations where we'd normally have to
ask someone on staff each time it comes up?"
Echidna says "Precisely."
Echidna says "We know there are times having a particular FC in a
scene is desirable, but we simply haven't the time to NPC them
ourselves for every such occasion."
Echidna says "The process of obtaining an FC Driver's License is a
lot simpler than the full FC application process. You'd send e-mail
to the Admins with a list of the characters you'd like to be licensed
for. We'd schedule an audition, and a short scene would be run for
each of those characters. At the end of the audition, we'll tell you
which of them you've been granted a license to portray."
Echidna says "Now, this is very much like a rental car. You can take
it out for a spin, but you can't make any alterations to it. A
licensed player driving an FC will probably have a specific goal
given to them by the Admins, and can't go around making big decisions
for the character like their permanent player could."
Echidna says "There's a License comm channel to keep the lines of
communication between licensed player and Admins open, too. Because
the licensed players haven't written the full application, they might
be a little hazy on certain details of the character's background,
and could use this as a way to ask questions if these types of things
come up."
Echidna says "There's no limit to the number of FCs a player can have
a license for. There's no limit to how many players can be licensed
for the same FC. However, this /only/ applies to uncast FCs."
Echidna says "Once a Feature role has been cast, all licenses that
have been granted for that role are revoked. If the role should again
become open at some point down the line, everyone wishing to be
licensed to portray that character must go through the process again,
even if they held the license at one point in the past."
Echidna hopes she's explained it clearly. I don't want to inundate
you right up front, so are there any specific questions I can answer
about how it'll work?
Sirius gets a license to run Peter and hands him over to Lupin.
Lupin puts a little bow on him and gives him to McGonagall for a
snack.
Hermione facepalms. "I'm surrounded by troublemakers...." XD
Narcissa has arrived.
Hermione says "If it's any help, you were answering questions about
as fast as I could think them up, Echidna."
Lupin doesn't have any questions about it either.
Echidna says "Spiffy."
Echidna says "How about questions about the FC process in general?"
Maximilian listens to crickets?
Echidna says "Are they playing 'Peggy Sue'?"
Lupin laughs.
Narcissa hees.
Echidna says "Wow, y'all got it!"
Echidna says "I worried it was too stupid and/or obscure."
Echidna says "Well... if nobody has anything to ask, I suppose that's
it."
Echidna says "Apply for an FC! Or a license! :)"
Hermione grins.
Narcissa now wants to apply for another. Yay enthusiasm. Collect them
all! >D
Echidna says "Please do so, Narcissa! There's lots of great roles
still available."
Echidna says "There are also the Extras, who can be created like an
OC."
Ruby says "Like Blaise Zabini. :)"
Echidna says "Right, our most recently approved Extra."
Echidna says "The Extras sort of straddle the line between OC and FC.
They're mentioned in the books, but we don't have their history, so
players can feel a lot more free to create them like an OC. However,
they're different than OCs in some ways. For one, if a person is cast
as an extra and idles out, the role will be available again."
Echidna pokepoke. :)
Lupin ow
Simon says "That tickles!"
Hermione eeks!
Narcissa glares.
Tommy eats the hand-like thing that pokes.
Simon says "Tommy is a cannibal?"
Lupin steps away from Tommy.
Echidna heh heh. "Well, that's all the news I've got. Feel free to
degenerate into icky conversation." :)
Narcissa says "Not as cute as Hannibal Lecter. ;D"
Simon is going to go finish @descing his flat. Toodles!
Lupin says "Narcissa -would- find him cute. ;)"
Tommy eats Simon too... Lupin's safe, because I am selective when it
comes to food... @;o)=
Narcissa bats her lashes.
Maximilian shudders at Narcissa.
Lupin thinks having bats on one's face would be painful.
Tommy wonders if it's baseball bats?
Narcissa hmphs, and maintains that Hannibal's just misunderstood.
Tommy says "Or vampire bats?"
Hermione asides to Echidna, "Ask, and you shall receive." o.o
Echidna imagines bats as decorative lash ornaments.
Narcissa oohs at Echidna. That'd be /neat/.
Narcissa gets 'Vampire Club' by Voltaire in her head.
Echidna makes a benevolent sort of shooing gesture.
Narcissa awws.
