Hogwarts Grounds - Meadow
A flat plain of grass with the occasional bit of brush and shrubbery, the
meadow stretches out over the length of the grounds, ending at the edge of the
Forbidden Forest. There's little to interrupt the open air and grassy expanse of
land, save for a large, stately oak tree in the midst of the meadow. Its girth
is wide, and sturdy roots surface and disappear into the grass around it, while
convenient knots in the bark serve as easy foot-holds, should someone desire to
scale up into its sturdy, reaching branches. Truly, a 'climbing tree' of the
highest calibre. On the edge of the meadow near the forest can be seen the cozy,
if somewhat overlarge cottage in which Hagrid, Gryffindor's Head of House,
lives. Further down the way in the direction of the quidditch pitch stand two
other noteworthy trees -- a hybrid Burrowing Oak, and a new Whomping Willow.

November's finally arrived, and with it, the first snow of the year. Several
inches fell between last night and this afternoon, and now that classes are out,
some of the more adventurous students are out in the snow, whooping it up. Cora
is there with a couple of other members of the house Quidditch team, and a rowdy
snowball fight is underway.
William comes heading towards the meadow from the castle and he spots the
snowball fight with a slight snort though he quickly looks around to see if he's
been spotted yet before closing on Cora and launching a barrage of snowballs at
her when in range
Cora was not expecting the attack from behind, so she's an easy target. She was
having too much fun beating the snot out of one of the new Keepers. She gives a
yelp of surprise, and attempts to return a few not-very-well aimed snowballs in
the direction of the sneak attacker.
William cackles a little bit when he scores some hits, "Ha, now you know how it
feels, eh? Of course I may regret this next practice, but oh well." and he
launches several more in her direction
Cora is distracted now, and it gives Andrew Cleghern a chance to sneak up now,
and grab Cora, tossing her down in a snow drift with a pleased sounding, "Ah-ha!
Take that Captain!" Cora gives a yelp, then ends up with a face full of snow.
William wanders over cautiously chuckling a bit, "Looks like we got her" though
he keeps several snowballs at the ready just in case
Cleghern holds her in the drift for a moment or two, so when Cora comes up,
she's doing a combination of coughing out snow from her nose and mouth, and
gasping for air. It takes a minute for her to recover as she shakes her head to
free her face of the snow. Then she springs forwards towards Cleghern, "I'm
going to KILL you Andrew!" she screeches. It's hard to tell if she's serious or
not, but the two end up down in the snow together, snowballs and fists flying.
Cora hasn't even noticed William yet. She's in that semi-familiar red zone.
William snickers a bit and just shrugs before chucking snowballs at the two of
them as fast as he can, "Don't hurt him too much now."
Eventually, the burst of energy passes, and the two just lay in the snow,
laughing some, before Andrew gets back to his feet, and offers Cora a hand so
she too can get up. She does, and brushes the snow from her school skirt, "Damn
that is cold!" she tells the boys, just now noticing William, she grins at him,
"Did you help him do that?!"
William shrugs a bit, "Well, I nailed you from behind a few times, but I wasn't
trying to help him toss you in the drift." and he chucks another snowball at
her, "I was just doing that you know."
Cora takes the glancing blow without a comment for a moment, "Enough," she
finally yields when two of the chasers decide to follow William's lead. She even
holds up a hand, "This stuff is too cold when you have to wear a skirt," she
comments, "Damn that Headmaster. Remind me to stick Hawk Nose in a drift next
time, but make sure he's in a skirt first. See how /he/ likes it."
William snickers a bit, "Well, not my fault you got him mad and that you're a
girl." though he keeps a snowball at the ready just in case. "Can't you do a
warming charm though?"
Cora does bend down to form another snowball, which she hurls at William. Andrew
gives a grin, and tosses one at one of the Chasers too. "Charms would take the
sport out of it," she comments.
William almost manages to dodge, but the snow makes it a bit tough and it's a
glancing blow off his shoulder and he begins to return fire at Cora, "OK, I
should have guessed you hadn't really had enough, eh?"
More snowballs fly as the friendly game continues amongst the team. "It's a pity
we couldn't use snowballs as some form of offense during a match," Cora manages
to comment.
William snorts a bit, "Let me guess, you'd toss one at Snape just because, eh?
Can't say I'd blame you."
Eventually, the cold starts to get to a couple of other players as well. The
snowballs don't fly quite so furiously, then the keeper speaks up, and suggests
a whole bunch of hot chocolate in the castle. Cora chimes in that she thinks
that sounds delicious.
William hmmms, "Hey, that sounds like a good idea. Think I'll stay away from the
ice cream though. I"m cold enough"
So, the team begins to trudge back towards the castle. Every once in a while, a
rogue snowball is tossed at someone. One hits William. One hits Cora ... two hit
Andrew ... and so on and so forth.
William grumbles a little bit and fires back in the general direction the
snowballs came from. "Say, who are we playing first anyway?"
Cora gives a shrug, "Not sure yet. The complete schedule hasn't been posted.
Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff get the first match," she sounds disappointed.
William nods a bit, "Well, I'd guess we'd probably get Slytherin for the second
match of the season then. Um, how are their beaters, do you know?"
Cora shrugs a bit, "I don't know. I'm not sure who they have returning as a
beater, other than the Head Boy." She smirks, "He tried to hit me last year. The
idiot missed." She sounds quite proud of that fact. "I got him though."
William snickers a bit, "Oh, that idiot who got the headmaster to give him
points for complaining about your feast costumes. Feel free to whack him again."
You head to Rear Courtyard.
Hogwarts Castle - Rear Courtyard
The smallish, squarish courtyard is surrounded by stone walls on three and
a half sides. One is the bulk of the castle, more stone, broken only by the
wooden door leading back inside. Another, lower wall, contains a gate which
connects it to the rolling meadow beyond. The last one of stone is just covered
in ivy with no visible breaks. The fourth is made up partially by the glass
sides of the greenhouses. The courtyard itself is paved with blue-grey
flagstone. In the center a fountain bubbles, surrounded by a rough marble bench.
Rippling out from this dominating centerpiece are hedges and flowerbeds arranged
in an almost maze-like fashion. As might be expected at a wizarding school,
fresh blossoms can be found here year round, regardless of what season muggles
have assigned a particular flower.

Cora gives a snort as the group makes its way into the Rear Courtyard. She
begins to brush snow from her cloak as best she can, and says, "What you don't
know is Covington probably only spoke up because he wanted to keep looking." She
chuckles here, and Cleghern pipes up, "Well after last year's Transfiguration
debacle, who wouldn't want to keep looking?"
William looks between the group, "Transfiguration debacle? What happened there?
Can't say I really know Covington, but so far I don't really care for him"
Cora gives Cleghern a bit of a dirty look, "It wasn't anything. He was just
practicing his human transfiguration, and wanted to change my torso, but to do
it, he claimed he needed my shirt off." She speaks a bit hastily, then stops as
she nears the steps in, to stomp off her shoes of their excess of snow.
William snickers a bit, "I, um, see. Sounds like it could be a fun class. So
anyway, the chocolate is getting any hotter with us standing out here."
Cora holds the door open, and urges the team back inside. "C'mon. We can't get
sick guys," she says.
