RE: [Superhero GMs and RPs] Catching the bad guys

Good point GC but if we keep it in context the people you talk to will be the ones with the same interests as you. Batman never went after the dreaded Deduction Master when he leaned he cheated on his taxes.

Personally I spin the story around the PC's contacts so that they don't have to figure ot where to look for news. They have never had a day where they were so bored they went looking for bad guys. The criminals have a way of making themselves known.

On an unrelated note, I was interested in how GMs handed real world events in their campaigns. I ask because my modernn day Big Easy campaign is on hold and I am not sure how much time and in what areas the New Orleans heroes should be involved. Obviously there are oppurtunities for the heroes to combat predators who have moved ino the area to take advantage of the chaos but how much of that should the heroes have to deal with? Your opinions are welcomed.

But who is considered criminal depends on who is reporting. You  keep an ear to the beat cop and it sdi kid punks, the mayor's office, it is tax cheats, the NDP, anyone who is even moderately successful in business, most left wingers on ANY Issue, George W. Bush (or the Jews)

Catching the bad guys involves more then just patrolling the streets
looking for criminals to capture or kill.  It might help to have your
character to get the daily paper.  Visit the library talk to the
police or street informants.  To learn where you might find the bad
guys.  Where are the criminal hang outs in your heroes home town.
Where is the red light district.  Super heroes should have one ear
listening to the all news radio channel.  While reading the local
papers and watching the local TV news.  Checking out the various
circles in the local city.  For example visiting a bar where off duty
cops hang out.  A popular martial art studio, an exclusive golf club
where local millionaires hang out.  These so called social circles
may help you track down various criminals or learn of possible new
criminal targets to put on your patrol.  Other social circles include
religious, military, business, Arts, schools and many more.  These
are better explored in your secret Id then in costume.
If you are running a character with powerful movement abilities.  You
can always drive your Game master nuts by flying off to help people
who have just faced a natural disaster.  IE currently northern
Pakistan could use some serious super hero help after the devastating
earth quake there.  I hope this helps!
