Question regarding cost of Magic Weapons   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #181 of 484 |

Hi all,

I'm new to this quiet list. :^)

I have a GURPS question.

When calculating the value of magic weapons, how does the multiplier
for Fine/Very Fine waepons work? I see two options:

1. Calculate the value of all of the enchantments, use the Magic
sourcebook formula to calculate into a dollar value, then multiply
the total by 4 for Fine or 20 for Very Fine. Example, Very Fine
Broadsword with Accuracy (+1) and Puissance (+1) comes to:

Broadsword cost: $500.00
Accuracy: 250 energy = $4,510.00
Puissance: 250 energy = $4,510.00

Subtotal: $9,520.00
Multiply by 20 for Very Fine sword
Total: $190,400.00

2. Calculate the price of the weapon using its base price then
multiply by the Fine/Very Fine multiplier, then calcualte the value
of the enchantments and add all lines. So the same sword would come
to:

Broadsword cost: $500.00
Very Fine multiplier x20
Subtotal 1: $10,000.00

Accuracy: $4,510.00
Puissance: $4,510.00
Subtotal 2: $9,020.00

Total: $19,020.00

Huge difference!

Looking forward to your thoughts,

Braz.

... I do not think this would not be appropriate. This method says that the "enchantment" is very fine, which is not the case. Higher skill level of any spells...

Remember that the x20 multiplier is for an average sword to be made "very fine" and thus, would multiplied to the sword only. The enchantments would not be...

Definately use the cheaper option as the sword and the enchantments are separate "things" i.e. the quality of the sword has little or no effect on the...
