The move has been rescheduled for August 29th, starting at 10:00, until
August 30th at 22:00.
The IP address for the server will change, so if you are unable to
connect after August 30th, your ISP's DNS server may still have the old
IP cached. In that case, please try newgt.gamingmuseum.com temporarily.

It's moving time again!
The Gaming Museum will be shut down by 10:00 on Saturday, August 22nd to
be moved. We will be up again by Sunday, August 23rd at 22:00.
Galactic Trader r4.47 will be released on March 10th, 2009.
Here are the updates:
- Enemies are now highlighted with bold text, in addition to displaying the
asterisk.
- The abandoned cargo prompt now attempts to recover the entire load of cargo by
default instead of requiring a quantity to be
entered.
- Update to recovering cargo reports your free cargo space and tells you how
much you could clear by flushing the cargo hold.
- Players will no longer be told they are still docked when they try to
hyperjump from the atmosphere after undocking from a base.
- The free cargo space will now be correctly calculated when an extra cargo hold
is destroyed.
- Various code enhancements for improved performance
On January 12th, the server that runs Galactic Trader, Empire, Monster,
and Warped MUD experienced a power failure. This appears to be caused
by the power supply, which cannot be made redundant on this model of
server. Until a maintenance window can be scheduled, these games are
running on a backup server. The backup server is an older, slower
model, but performance should still be acceptable. If you have any
problems attempting to play, please post here or email
techsupport@.... Thanks for your patience through these
recent issues.
On a positive note, I have been making some usability and performance
enhancements to Galactic Trader and I expect to bring these live within
the next few months. Thanks for playing!
Galactic Trader, Monster, and Empire are now available, but the web
site is still undergoing maintenance.
Thank you for your patience.

The domain registrar for the Gaming Museum sites (gamingmuseum.com,
galtrader.com) is experiencing some sort of outage. If you attempt to
connect, your web browser or telnet client will not be able to resolve
the name to an IP address and thus your connection will fail.
I do not currently have an ETA on when this will be resolved.
However, in order to play the VMS games directly (Empire, Monster,
Galactic Trader), you may point your telnet client directly to
76.160.199.99. This will not work for the web sites.
Electrical storms earlier this week have caused damage to my
building's electrical system. Repairs are currently underway and
should be completed by 18:00 EDT.
"Empire: Wargame of the Century," also known as "VMS Empire" and
"Classic Empire," is now available on Gamingmuseum.com. Links, rules,
and the back story are available on the Classic Empire home page at
http://www.gamingmuseum.com/empire.html
The entire web site, including all games, will be unavailable on
January 22nd from 22:00 to 23:30 EST for hardware maintenance. We
apologize for the inconvenience.
Please be sure to visit our new Games page. We've given it a facelift and made it easier to use. New games will be coming soon, so please keep checking back.
I will be performing hardware upgrades on the email and web servers this
weekend. The web site may be unavailable at various times between
12:00 EDT on May 26th and 15:00 EDT on May 28th. Galactic Trader,
Monster, and WarpedMUD will still be available by direct telnet connection.

I was recently contacted by Richard van Meurs of Tilburg University in
the Netherlands. He is conducting a survey of MUD players and would
like your input. If you're interested, please read below.
----------------------------------------------------------
"Are you always trying to achieve the highest status on a MUD or would
you rather find out everything there is to know about the MUD world? Are
you trying to make friends among your fellow players or would you rather
slice their throats and make them feel miserable?" What do people
consider fun and rewarding when they are playing their MUD and in what
way do these behaviours relate to their character traits in real life.
This survey is part of my research in Leisure Studies at Tilburg
University, the Netherlands. As I am a MUD administrator myself (after
playing extensively for several years), I am very much interested in the
results. Your contribution to this research is extremely valuable and it
will only take about 10 minutes of your time to complete the survey. Of
course everything you submit will be handled anonymously and with care
and will only be used to draw general conclusions about playing styles
for my research.
At the end of the survey you can indicate if you want to receive a
summary of the results or a full copy of the resulting article. In
addition to this, you might be rewarded with a gift certificate for
amazon.com of $15. More information about this will be at the end of the
survey. You can find the survey by visiting:

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and time.

I have corrected a bug that would prevent bonuses from being applied
with scrolls and some other equipment when they were first picked up
from an abandoned ship.
New forums have been created to support Warped MUD and Monster. These will be monitored by GamingMuseum.com staff, so feel free to post any questions or comments.
Just two small fixes:
- Fixed a rare deadlock condition that occurs when one player decides
to go for a snack while in combat, leaving another player stuck
waiting for him to come back so that the planet record will be unlocked.
- If you scanned another player with the advanced sensors and
discovered contraband, the asterisk ("*") would appear next to them as
if they were a computer-controlled pirate.
I applied two fixes today. One is to correct a crash which occurred
if the player replaced an abandoned ship carrying gold with another
that did not have sufficient cargo space to hold it.
The second fix allows commands to be entered in both lower and
uppercase, so that accidentally hitting CAPS LOCK won't get you killed
in a PvP fight.
The front page of Gamingmuseum.com will have a slightly new look, as
news on GT, other games, and the site in general will now be posted to
the "gamingmuseum" group here on Yahoo. This will allow you to get
Gaming Museum news via your RSS reader in the same way that you might
currently for GT. In addition, news updates will be much easier for me.
In other news: Monster, the game which has been coming soon for what
seems like years, is really coming soon. Hopefully some people still
want to play with it! Monster also runs on VMS, so in order to
support both games I will be adding a menu to the Alpha. If you
normally play using the Java telnet client, you won't see anything
different. If you use your own telnet client and would rather default
to one game or another without seeing the menu, follow the
instructions below.
Generic Instructions: You will need to set your answerback to menu
item 1, plus a linefeed (or newline).
TeraTerm: Click Setup, then Terminal. In Answerback, type "1$0D$0A".
Reflection: Click Setup, then Terminal, then Emulation, then Advanced.
In Answerback Message, click "Insert Special Characters" then type "1"
in the text box, press Enter (or Return), and click OK.
Galactic Trader players who use the PK flag will be able to change it
back when they are on the ground. I will monitor player feedback on
how this is used and come to a decision on whether to make this a
permanent change.
I have also made it a policy at the Gamingmuseum to not reset
passwords unless the player has set an email address in his or her
character and sent an email request from that address. I spend a lot
of time scouring logs to verify a player's identity, and would rather
secure and streamline the process. If you do not have an email
address set, you will be reminded when you enter the game. Email
addresses may be set from the options menu (option "o" from the MAIN
menu).
