SGI rises from grave, sues ATI

"The company's technology covered by the '327 patent is an important resource in achieving enhanced graphics processing demanded by today's computer systems," said CEO Dennis McKenna in a statement. "SGI has licensed this technology to ATI's major competitors and, as I have previously been stating publicly, SGI intends to aggressively protect and enforce its IP. This is the first visible step in that process."

Man, its been years since I thought about SGI and their "Barney Boxes" that we used to have to support at a job I had. (Barney boxes because they were big and purple, like that loveable pre-school dinosaur.) I thought they were dead.

Shockwave Minis coming to your Verizon Phone

Shockwave.com announced today that it has launched a new category of cellphone games called Shockwave Minis, built using Adobe Flash Lite, and available exclusively on Verizon Wireless.

Consumers can gain access to all 30 games for a monthly subscription fee of $3.49, or through downloadable packs of three, five or ten at prices beginning at $3.99 for a three-pack. Titles available through this service inlcude SpongeBob SquarePants and MTV's Pimp My Ride with new games slated to be added to the service every month.

Maybe I'm too old, but I just don't "get" playing games on a phone. Are we all so out of touch that we have to play with our phone when we're bored, instead of just sitting and waiting somewhere? $3.49 a month?! Do 30 cell phone games match the fun and excitment of a quarter of World of Warcraft? I don't think so. Great for the game developers though... I do like the micro business model - even if I don't understand its draw, in this form.
