Okay lads, have kicked ball rolling.
Contacted Warords re staging a Horse and Musket 25mm day at Wadestown
hall on 17th February. Brief will be a Piquet day of 2 games, each of
3 hours with extra 30 minutes allowed if result close. Aim is not so
much to win, but get all those 25mm figures out of cupboards and on
to a table for a day and talk to fellow PK enthusiasts. Knowing I can
count you all(taking licence) we have 8 players so far. My review of
Pk will be in warlords despatches this month, will follow with review
of this Friday game next month and announcement of day(hopefully
warolrds will ok it).
Hit me with feedback, lively discussion wanted!
Have finished ACR's, Brian/Steve/Roly confirmed. Not sure about
Craig, can't get hold of him, but he wasn't bringing any troops so
not a problem.
See you all at 7.30 Friday at my place, 11 papawai grove, waikanae
904 2140.
Brother Fusiliers & most elevated Fusilier General
I've met Andrew Crampton, thanks to contact made via the Piquet mail list,
and have even had a couple of games with him - nice guy. He lives in
Alicetown in Lower Hutt and is keen to get publicity for Piquet. He is
thinking of a non competitive competition (!), perhaps involving several
periods - SYW, Napoleonic,+ ?
I would be interested in doing something along these lines but there is a
fair chance that I will not be in the country for Valleycon. I think the
idea a good one, but for me the question is when. A convention gets a
larger audience, but usually entails a full weekend - I dread the penance I
will need to pay for such an occasion !!!!!! A club day, as raised by
Fusilier Terry, is another option. Of course none of these need to be
mutually exclusive.
Is there a desire for some form of public exhibitionism amongst the
Fusiliers ? There are other none Fusilier Piquet players around town who
have indicated interest in such an undertaking.
Fusilier Peter
I've just done an update on my French Army website, which you'll find
at:
http://dare.paradise.net.nz/france/index.htm
The update features photos of my two latest units, both light troops -
the Chasseurs de Fischer and the Volontaires Etrangers de Clermont-
Prince.
Feel free to drop in if you get a chance!
Just to notify those who are interested (particularly Peter for the
ORBAT, and Terry for Friday's game) that I am on the finishing stages
(basing and varnishing) of two battalions of French light infantry.
They are 12 Chasseurs de Fischer and 12 Volontaires Etrangers de
Clermont-Prince, based three to a base. As soon as the bases are
done and I can get the digital camera out, I'll add photos of them to
my website http://dare.paradise.net.nz/france/index.htm . Then there
remains only the two more infantry battalions I have on hand left for
me to paint up (but these latter won't be completed for Friday's
game).
The following message came in to me personally from Andrew Crampton
(whom I don't know) at acrampton@... - does this interest
you guys at all?
Hi Roly,
I am very impressed by the SYW figures on the web. I am trying to
organize
a Piquet competition for ValleyCon in Jan. This means that I am
trying to
get people to come as well as people to set up scenarios. The idea
is to
run a range of periods and scenarios as PK is still small in NZ.
What this
all leads to is are you and your group interested in coming to
ValleyCon and
would you be interested in setting up a scenario? Look forward to
hearing
from you.
Cheers Andrew
I trust he is not not absent without leave !!! This could be VERY serious
for him - cowardice in the face of the enemy and suchlike. Any volunteers
for the Gendarmerie to help the the Fusilier General beat the living
daylights out of him, er, introduce the gentleman to the colours ?!!!!

Hmmm, Peter ... I haven't seen that one before. But I can't check it
out for you, because I only get my e-Group messages on the Web.

Any body not been receiving all the Fusilier messages ? There are some
messages in the messages section of the EGroups website that have been
posted while I have been on sick leave, but were not sitting in my email
waiting for me upon my return to active service.

I've been off sick for several days. Got the lurgy and suffered, gave the
lurgy to the family - not a good move on the home front diplomacy front -
and had to stay off work some more to play Doctor Dad/Husband (and suffered
!).
More positively while on my enforced leave Wargames Illustrated arrived
(about 3 weeks late !!!), and yet more importantly the SYWA Journal
arrived. The journal is a good one and will undoubtedly make its rounds as
normal.
A couple of Fridays ago I hosted a 4 player SYW Piquet game - Prussians vs.
Austrians and French. There were 2 Piquet relative veterans (Craig &
myself), 1 of limited experience (Andrew Crampton) and a total beginner
(John).
I setup the game with each player having their own CinC, their own sequence
deck, drawing their own morale chips and performing their own Army
Characterisation draw. Both players on the impetus winning side got the
use of all impetus won (eg. Prussians win impetus throw by 5, then both
Prussian players get 5 impetus each), but moderated this by using a D12 (in
place of a D20) for the impetus roll. This worked fine - probably helped
because as individual payers no one had a large force. Players chose the
side/army the would use and I took the remaining.
All enjoyed the game with the main lesson being "Know your sequence
deck". Advancing in column and trying to force melees is fine in Les
Grognards (Napoleonics), but fairly suicidal in the SYW with 1 Deployment &
1 Melee national sequence decks. Also the case for a "Cavalry Melee" card
for the SYW was reinforced - it can be very hard to get 2 cavalry units to
melee with the 1 Melee card, and SYW cavalry were not that timid according
to my understanding.
We easily completed the game on the Friday night (despite the organiser
still trying to sort out sequence decks as the protagonists arrived and one
totally 'green' player).
Oh yes, after a shakey start the outnumbered lads in blue came through.

Craig is coming up for night. Sides will be Roly/Craig against Moi and Steve. Roly, you bring your French and Steve your British. Will give Craig Napoleonic French to use as 7YW and I will field my British plus Red coated Russians. Table is 8 x 6 so go for big game, will have terrain etc set up ready. Will do sheets for sides and email before hand so you can do rolls for units(or I can do if you don't have die) and will get decks etc organised. Craigs normal style is to get in your face so expect him to charge!
So be here anytime around 7.00.
Questions?
making walls as I type, they're in the oven hardening up!

Hi Terry ...
I'd love to come to the game, but I still have to confirm that I can
make it ... I'll let you know soon.
Plus there will also be the imponderable of Sarah's due date (she is
supposed to deliver on 10 November, but we all know how much those
dates can be out by!) ... so even if I confirm in the next few days
that I will come, that could change at any time between then and the
game. You'll have to have a contingency plan in case I can't make it
at the last minute.
Regards ...
Roly

At our game last night, I promised Steve and Paul to send them the
link to the new Waterloo computer game, based on "Sid Meier's
Gettysburg", that is due out next year. Here is the site where you
can get a preview and some early screenshots:
http://www.cdmag.com/articles/030/009/waterloo_feature.html
And, Steve, I promised you the address of the NZ Wargaming e-Group as
a suggested place of advertising your army for sale. Here it is:

All the best ...
Roly
Last night's game was, as usual, a lot of fun. Steve commanded the
Americans, whose objective was to get some supply wagons off the
board. The British, jointly commended by Paul and myself, had to
prevent the wagons escaping.
A few highlights of the game included Paul's cavalry galloping around
the right flank to try and cut off the windows. Meanwhile, an
interesting firefight ensued between two light infantry units, which
more or less went on for the whole game.
On the left flank, Roly's Indians just missed by a whisker getting
run down by American dragoons, but made it into a wood with seconds
to spare, from which they then had a field day shooting up the
cavalry.
Steve's French battalion stood wonderfully, while melted away all
around it. Even when almost surrounded, the gallant French wouldn't
retreat! Paul says this was the French battalion's first blooding
since being painted, so they have begun their career well! But, most
importantly, Steve's wagons made a successful run, and the game was
his!
Paul took some photos of the battle, which I'll post on this e-group
as soon as he sends them to me.
Thanks for another fun battle, Steve and Paul.
Tomorrow (Friday) I still don't know if I can come to the game at
Paul's. Sarah has put her back out, so it will depend on how she
feels. Paul and Steve ... I suggest you start the game as though
just the two of you are playing, and if I can join you, then perhaps
I can take over a few units in either of your armies.
Hello Peter,
Look forward to meeting you at some stage. Rule Brittannia!
Steve

I can't recall which of you I loaned the Greenwood & Ball book on the
Austrians to. A guy on the SYW list wants me to scan some flags to
him, so I might get the book back from you to do that.
Roly (or should I say 'Fusilier General' ?!), checked out your site and it
looked great. I'd like to do something similiar eventually, but that's a
fair way out for now.

battle so perhaps I shouldn't be too friendly !!!!!!

I've just completed a little website to show off my newly-painted
18th century French Army, if you'ld like to drop in for a visit.
You'll find pictures of all my units (all 25mm Front Rank
miniatures). The address is:
http://dare.paradise.net.nz/france/index.htm
And to that end......
having a game at home on Friday after labour Weekend, Craig is coming up for
nite. Thought you and Steve may want to come around.
Be 7Years war so you could bring your French, Steve his British AWI with my
Brirs and my French Napoleonics as well, French! With Crig games tend to go
fast, he tends to charge across table!

Peter, I think the more the merrier for this discussion group, but
overall our purpose was for setting up games. But it would be nice
to have a bit of constant to-ing and fro-ing on this message board,
to keep things lively and active.
Howdy to all other Fusiliers
I guess I should be classed as a colonial Fusilier, or maybe a Fusilier on
an overseas/out of country posting, being based all the way down here in
Wellington proper !!!
Roly, or should I say 'Fusiler General', I'm not sure how you see this
list working. Should I tell other Wellington based Piquet players about
this list ? I guess this list is not Piquet specific - more Paraparaumu
gamers specific, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Also I felt that I should post something to the list so as to be a fusiler
on active duty !!!!!

After all the hoo-hah of trying to organise our next game, I thought
this idea of doing our organisation on an e-Group like this might
make things just a little easier, because we'll all be able to see
the messages to one another.
Today's game had to be postponed, unfortunately, but, at this stage,
those of us who can play next Sunday are going to have an American
Civil War game, hosted by Paul.
OK, guys, seeing as I'm the one to set up this group, I'm first to
post! Do let us all know once you arrive on the board, everyone, and
then we can get the actual discussions going.
By the way, to try out the Pictures and Links sections of this e-
Group, I've already posted a few things there for you to look at
(though you might have seen some of them already!)
