Is it just me, or are PBEMs, sims, whatever-you' d-like-to- call-them a
dying genre?

I think it's more a matter of certain games going through phases of popularity.
It doesn't even mean your game itself is dying, but sometimes you'll get 10 new
members... then you won't see a single soul for six months. I had a recent
influx I hadn't expected at all on a really long-running game that hadn't had a
new member join in months and months, while another game that's normally very
popular just lost a few people. To me it's not play by emails altogether, it's
just sort of the ebb and flow of popularity and membership in general.
