Just my 2 cents on this (and here's to hoping that the particular
player in question has started posting more):
I not only specify the posting rate on my sim's rules page, but I
also have *two* pages devoted just to the subject of posting.
One is a "Post Suggestions" page - a list of ideas for posting (it's
the same one that I brought up several years ago here, and, as memory
serves me, is among the links in the welcome packet that new
Freform_GM list members get).
The other one is a Posting Guidelines page, which provides players
with the info on how to write a post for the sim (including post
setup and several things to keep in mind, like the posting rate and
sim rating). I link to this page from the rules page (under the
direction to read over it so that players know what I expect), and
included in this page is a link to the above mentioned "Post
Suggestions" page, telling players that they can read over it when
they're having trouble coming up with things to post (I later
expanded the paragraph to let them know that if they're *still*
having trouble coming up with something to write, they can talk to me
and we'd see what the options were, and reminding them that I was not
a mind-reader - if they were having trouble with that, it's *their*
responsibility to let me know that; I did that after I had a couple
of players leave one of my sims once complaining that they just
couldn't come up with anything to write)
I not only specify the posting rate, but I also specify what happens
if a player does not post at all after an extented period of time
(for me, it's no posts within an 8 week period, unless they've
applied for and received a Leave of Absense beforehand) - namely,
they're unsubscribed from the mailing list and their character is
written out of the plotline. It's not a fun rule to enforce by any
means, but I do recommend having it (written for your particular
tastes), since I've found that it makes it easier when (not if!) the
time comes to dealing with people who just can't seem to take a hint
when it comes to posting regularly within your preferred posting
rate. Yes, sometimes you might feel like you're coming across as a
witch with a capital "B", but everyone joined the game with the
understanding that it would move at a certain minimum pace, and those
who either can't or won't keep up with that rate really need to be
deal with, so that those who are willing and able to meet the posting
rate can have an enjoyable time.
