Are you looking to an alternative to the rules for this situation? The Weapon Cross Use rule [103] in Poor Brendan's Almanac allows for using similar weapons

I handled it more straight forward. The character SC is de weapon base chance. A character's SC with Rk 0 in some weapon is Weapons's BC + character's MD
