I have a fair few of the BTD Unit figures and would like to mix in some alternatives. I know about the MoFo figures from Gripping Beast. Can people suggest any other alternatives for 60/70s style Unit troopers? All ideas welcome.

Maybe we could compile a list of e-mail contacts for those BTD staff who could help those of us ignored ?
I've even tried e-mailing to the UK with no response.

In the past I bought regularly from BTD and had few problems. Admittedly sometimes the service was slow and sometimes items were shipped separately.
The great thing was the willingness to help with my special requests.
I cannot remember an unanswered e-mail though some phone messages were either ignored or the answer machine was so full the message did not get recorded.
The only reason I don't buy just now is that having paid out a lot on a aughter's wedding and getting housing for a son I've no surplus cash for the near to middle future.

I have also had very little problems with them. A recent order of 7 Daleks and 2 Sontarans were delivered to me in less than a week from the time I ordered them up here in Connecticut...fastest delivery time ever from them.
In the past they have been very communicative to me, even sending a handwritten notice if something was on backorder. I have ordered from Blacktree design many times in the past and will do so in the future without a second thought.
It's odd; I've never had a lack of response to an email (although I have had
them ignore plenty of phone messages). Generally my problem has been orders
with missing items, or stuff 'to follow' months later. In their defence,
John has always gone the extra mile to set things right afterwards and
usually his personal service is very good. I last spoke to him by mail a few
months back and I got the impression that they had had some real problems
they were trying to surmount, but hoped to be getting back on track soon.
I'm saddened to hear that that doesn't seem to have happened; for all the
faults they always strike me as a decent bunch of people, but that's no
compensation for people who are being messed around. :-(
Best,
Mike

I've been emailing and ringing for the last month, awaiting an order from
beginning of September which was supposedly sent straight out beginning of
October, without any joy. I understand they may have had issues with their phone
lines, but their not doing themselves any favours, especially in the current
economic climate.
I want to spend more money with BTD, on robomen/unit hw etc, but this just
puts me right off.
When you compare BTD service with the likes of Heresey/Hasslefree, makes me
wish HF or H had the rights for the old Harlequin minis or could (with
permission) produce minis from both classic and new series.

Just posted these on LAF and the DWMG Facebook pages but thought I'd do the
rounds:
http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=14454.0
Some converted Copplestone Bare-headed Troopers with some added greenstuff and a
some more lovely brushwork from Dags.
Some more for the DWMG game 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Daleks' one of two
participation games at Salute 2010. These are the reality jumping Preachers -
freedom fighters for an alternate earth as seen in Army of Ghosts and Doomsday -
just one of the forces you'll be able to play on the day.
Cheers
Karl
I recently received my order of Daleks from BTD. They were quite fast in shipping this time. Only ordered it a week ago and they are here already in Connecticut, USA.
I have an old set of 6 Daleks and a Special Weapons Dalek. I painted them Black with Gold sensor balls, blue eye lights, etc. Basically my Renegade Daleks skirmish army, led by a gold dalek to separate it from the rest for gaming purposes.
Problem is I want to create Imperial Daleks, but not sure if I should go with the white daleks or silver daleks. What is a good color to make for Imperial Daleks??
Also I was thinking of making the Supreme Dalek Red like the one in the last Doctor Who Episode of Season 4.

OK… I am pretty sure it's there. Updated the website/HTML and everything. Have
you tried clearing your browser cache or equivalent? Will double check in the

Just posted the photos from this weekend's post Halloween game, the family of
Blood. See under Brian's photos. This is my own scenario and I will be running
it again at my local club.
We experimented with playing cards for random movement. It was a big
improvement. Each character or small group was assigned a card and when it was
drawn they could move. Two different decks with different backings were used to
distinguish the two sides. Leadership abilities could still be used with the
caveat that no unit could be activated more than twice in a turn. This
prevented units like the HMG being too dominant.
The Monster side won, those Scarecrows are hard to kill!

first thing is finding someone with the right gun... depending on how many you are planning on doing, a few German SMG's wouldn't stand out that much... but as I was only doing a couple (and in the end abandoned one) I wanted Stirlings or Stens or similar... Artizan's Thrilling tales range has plenty of both and the outfits aren't that far removed from 60's outfits...
I g/s'd the gun so it looked more like the BTD robomen's guns - again may be another reason to go for Stirlings... the BTD SMGs aren't very detailed and any other mini's weapons will stand out a bit...
as I was working on women, the hair came off first with a scalpel, leaving roughly head shaped metal... g/s'd the head band and the collar first, then when set cut the two 'earpieces' out from a roll of set g/s and glued on... the overhead strip was next and the sideburn units... once that was set, I did some hair coming out and over the headpiece... and that's about it really...
