Wow! LAN with DS would be awesome. Selective breeding among
a group of close friends...Then of course the world could dock to the
main and release custom variations of the Creatures...I think it would
rock if this happened. Any more info on this?
I myself would like to know the answer to this question. I think someone was working on it, but I haven't heard anything lately; most likely because the project was started while the servers were offline due to the creatures company closing. I understand your desire to setup a local DS server, but I do hope that you are on board with being online during the days that are set up to support the official servers.

A new Creatures game would be excellent. On the Gameware homepage
(gamewaredevelopment.co.uk) it says,
"Among other things, we want to bring a version of Creatures to
mobile phones and to get new next-generation versions of Creatures
and James Pond into development and onto the market."
Showing that the company are certainly interested in the idea as
well. Then if you look at the December entry on the Studio Diary it
says,
"Creatures-wise, we've been continuing our quest to find partners
with the right level of commitment needed to take forward the
series. It's bound to come as something of a disappointment to the
many devoted Creatures fans that regularly check here for better
news on this front, to hear that, so far, we have not secured such a
partner. ..."
So Gameware have been looking to find a publisher to fund another
Creatures game, but one hasn't come forward yet. Therefore a few of
us have been working on schemes such as Get Online Day to get more
people (old and new) playing Docking Station online each month.
Publishers like to see a large market before investing so we're in
need of Community plans and ploys to help with that... Perhaps a few
more website and developer teams would get things moving again,
especially since we have the Creatures tenth anniversary next
year! :)

So why isn't there a creatures 4?
I would be dying to see it, and I would buy it right when it becomes
available....but there doesn't seem to be anything going on at the
hompage since november of 2004...

Okay, I'll post a quick rundown of the current Creatures games which
might help :)
The previous releases of Creatures Exodus and Creatures Village for
Windows were remastered copies of the game, updated to install on
Windows XP machines and released August 2004. These are the games
listed and being sold at the new Creatures Mall. Among them:
Creatures Exodus is Creatures 3 and Docking Station together, both
remastered with the patches and some extra Creatures Mall breeds;
Creatures Village is Creatures Adventures and Creatures Playground
(that used to link together when both installed on the same PC to
form Creatures Village); The Albian Years is the remastered version
of Creatures 1 and Creatures 2.
So now Kutoka Interactive have converted two of these box sets for
Mac OS X, which we had been hoping for since Creatures Internet
Edition (C3 and DS) was released for Linux, by the same box names.
The two PS1 versions of the games include 'Creatures'
and 'Creatures: Raised in Space', and there is a GBA Creatures
available as well.
Now I just need to get hold of a copy of these latest two games to
get my collection up to date ;)

I wonder if gameware takes the chance and makes a OSX version of
dockingstation as well.

Hi, I'm a .sig virus. Just copy me to your .signature. And don't worry.
Apparently, there is a company that makes educational software that
is releaseing two items.
The first is Creatures: Exodus, which appears to be Creatures 3. The
second is Creatures:
Village, which appears to be the Creatures software that was more
directed towards kids of
which I don't recall the original name.
Here's a link to the article where I read about it:

Kutoka appears not to have this information on their website yet.

Why didn't you just use links instead of copying everything?

I'd need the exact error messages to make sense of that... should be in
some log file in your ~/.creature3 directory.

Hi, I'm a .sig virus. Just copy me to your .signature. And don't worry.
Unfortunately we cannot by law send the norn packs to anyone so you
will have to contact Lisa at Gameware Development, perhaps by
private messaging her on the Gameware forums. They have a strict
policy on asking people to make backup copies of their purchases but
but it might be worth a try.

It is illegal to do so. However if you contact Gameware Development
(the new home of Creatures) then you should be able to get them from them.
So I just recently purchased the Zebra, Astro, and
Siamese norns from Creature Labs, but have
unexpectedly lost the files after botching a file
transfer job. I know I should have backed them up
elsewhere. That said, can anyone send me the files for
these breeds?
Feeling dumb,

Sorry I took so long to respond...yes actually, I had seen that site
and I actually used it to get started with it. Like I stated, I got
the Creatures world docked onto the DS (using that particular app, in
fact, to install Creatures3) however I keep getting errors when I run
it (which I stated previously). Anyway, thanks for the
help...although I'm kinda disappointed...
The other thing is C2...has anyone had success with using it in Wine?
(Or cedega for that matter.../me is running cedega CVS).
Oh, by the way Don, I've always been a HUGE fan of your site...just
thought I'd let ya know ;)

Awesome!
Actually, I finally got it working, but I had to do a bit of hacking...
I found the cd, but there was a scratch on it :P and the entire
"Images" folder was b0rked... Now, I'm not too "bash" literate so I
couldn't just rewrite the script...Instead I molded my system's setup
/to/ the script. The script checks mtab to see if the directory is
mounted, so I copied the cd's files (except "Images," which I replaced
with my folder from previously) to an external hd (which was mounted
in mtab). Then I specfied the mount point and it worked no problem.
...Unfortunately, althought the script allowed me to use my Creatures3
world in Docking Station, I receive a number of errors from the engine
regarding bootstrap files (delay gate.cos, desert grass.cos, disable
debug keys.cos, etc....) that apparently do not exist. Even running a
fresh C3 world gives me these errors...Any ideas? Like I said, I have
DS running the world fine, but I cannot run a C3 stand-alone.
Thanks!

Well, copying the data files should do the trick, but you won't be able
to use the installer script then (if you don't modify it first). You
might have to rename some file names to lowercase, though. Renaming the
directories is not reommended, but it'll work if you fix the config.
Installing this way is not for the faint hearted.

Hi, I'm a .sig virus. Just copy me to your .signature. And don't worry.
Hi.
For anyone that this concerns, I've rejoined the group (this is Cmaza,
with a new Y! ID). I probably won't be contributing much as I haven't
really been keeping tabs on the community for over a year, but I
decided to rejoin anyhow... mostly because I was forced to create a
new Y! ID to get access to something on the server, partly because I'm
curious how things are going.
Anyhow, hello to anyone out there that actually remembers me (probably
no one).
Adios.
Hi everyone!
Wow, this is so awesome that Creatures still has so many fans. I
probably haven't played for about a year... It's like Starcraft I
guess though...it will never die. ^-^;;
Okay, anyway, I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Linux (Finally
settled on Gentoo after about 6 months of toying with different
distros, if anyone's interested...) Anyway, I decided hey, I haven't
seen that Creatures game in awhile...wonder what if it's available for
Linux? Lo, and behold; I found the download for Docking Station.
Okay, I'm currently downloading the tarball and a question came to
mind... I discovered that I have the files from Creatures 3 (and
Docking Station for that matter) backed up on my hard drive. Anywho,
the CD is lost somewhere in storage...I was wondering if I would be
able to just use the files or if I have to go dig the C3 cd up to get
it to work?
Thanks for the help!
The original Docking Station "repair" feature isn't currently
supported by the new server, so you will have to download the complete
game:

I am loading the defult URL to fix broken istalls.
My install was broken because of not enough space.
I have enough space now, but it cannot find the server
whatsoever.and, I am under a Dynamic IP so I cannot
fix this. I'm going to try redownloading the install,
then if That does not work, I may try to find a
Creatures 3 (complete program) or Creatures 1
(complete program) download. me and my sister really
like to play with Creatures!

I am connected to the Internet behind a fire well. when I try to
connect to the URL specified, it justs gives me a site not found.
what's going on, I'd like to know.(this is for the install, not for the
game itself!)

So it works? I had an idea what might be your problem, but if the same
distro does it on another machine...

OK I got a bit further on this. There is no problem with installing
this on a SuSE 64 bit box using the unmodded script, there is a
problem installing it on MY box.
I got someone to install it on his 64bit SuSE box it it worked OK,
apart from the known problem of the updating. So the errors I am
getting are specific to my system.

There is no older Linux copy. Anyway, the original C3 installer should
work quite fine.
