Hello,

I am a French (sorry for my bad english) keeper RPG-ing since 1987 who
just started DG (I managed to get Countdown & Eyes Only also).

I was wandering if any scenario (official or not) implicating DG agents
against a Shaggaï/PISCES conspiracy existed, to introduce the themes
from Countdown?

Sorry to ask if the question already arose by the past, but when I tried
to browse through the ML archives, but I found both too much and nothing
really related to my question...

Best,

Guillaume

Phil Ward and I have been working on writing up the Black Seals House
campaign "Zodiac Clearance" for a long time now, however while it involves
PISCES the players are ideally civilians or perhaps members of the police
rather than PISCES itself.

If you are interested contact me off list - it needs another play test
having gone through several re-writes since it was last played.

(Sorry for the double mail, but I had proxy problems...)

Thanx for your answer.

In fact, I was actually looking about a scenario/campaign involving
PISCES, but as an enemy, rather than a scenario with PISCES agents (I
already have "Voice of the animals", in World of Cthulhu #4, with PISCES
agents).

I am therefore really interested by your "Zodiac Clearance", but since I
have time (because having just started my campaign), I can wait for your
last play-tests ! :)

IIRC one of the potential plots of the Army of the Third Eye was to inform on
PISCES to French Intelligence. That could give you guys a plot-point to start
with.

Or, if you feel like being insulted, you could always read this:

spoilers, movie was mentioned on the list a month back.

Very impressed with what they pulled off on a limited budget. That
being said, I think that the biologist there is probably one of the
dumbest protagonists I've ever seen in horror, even dumber than the
Miskatonic idiot from Dagon. What a worthless, pathetic waste of
screen space! His girlfriend had twice his brains. I was
half-expecting her to end up hooking up with Billy Bob Whitetrash by
the end.

A couple thoughts:

1. Surprised that getting the splinter in the hand didn't turn Billy
Bob the whole way, that they could get away with just cutting off the
arm.

2. Never pick up hitchhikers.

3. If you do stop and a guy appears at the window with a gun, HIT THE
GAS. Better to take your chances with him shooting at you from behind
than letting him in the car.

4. It looks like the splinter critters use up their hosts within
hours. Why not just outwait them inside the gas station?

5. A creature like this that can pretty much take any animal and turn
it into a spore carrier, it would take over the whole bloody planet
inside a week.

From the mail order kits I've seen, they're about as useful as the

ObDG: Mi-Go experimentation with children and mass telepathy. A single child
envisions Candle Cove and broadcasts it to hundreds or even thousands of
kids around the country. The broadcasting kid falls into a coma. The dreams
stop.

One week ago, he woke up from his catatonic state. Every single child who
thought they saw Candle Cove begins to have strange dreams, then disappear.

This is continuing to disturb me, hours later in broad daylight. I
really really DO remember a show quite similar to that, or at least
similar to what was being described in the early posts on that thread.
Only I can't remember the name or conjure up any more specifics.

Masterfully creepy.

For my campaign, it would definitely be connected to the King in
Yellow. It's a cove on the shore of Hali, naturally. The puppets are
the toys of the children of the Court, abandoned to their own devices
once those children (Camilla and her brothers) have grown up. Now they
are searching for other children to play with.

It's kind of like Toy Story that way...

Indeed. There are several takes of childhood horror out there, in RPGs and
otherwise, and it can be really eerie. I had a music box that played 'Teddy
Bear's Picnic' as a child, but it was tuned oddly or broken so it sounded more
like a dirge. Song still creeps me out.

I've toyed with the notion of turning either Sigmund the Seamonster (here an
outcast Deep One or Thrall of Cthulhu) or Pete's Dragon (Eliot replaced with a
Lloigor, with the players taking the role of the Gogan family and Doc Terminus)
into a convention scenario.

Meanwhile the Dreamlands no doubt could easily be reworked into a Young Adult
book series, "Lil Randy and the Turquoise Temple" perhaps?

Dave, same thing here. I remember an extremely vivid nightmare just about
the same timeframe as the story stated the show was on, about a skeleton ...
and a living room... and a fat man being grinded slowly through the
snapping, chattering (shattering?) jaws of the skeleton as it inched along
the floor behind the couch. I could almost believe I saw that show too.

There are so many ways this can be used in a scenario - not only the actual
kid's show angle but how the story being told affects the readers, until
they are convinced that they, indeed, saw this show... and the implications
behind that.

I at first thought they were talking about a real show and then the
last poster came in just to try and make it creepy. Didn't realize it
was all part of the same story. :)

I do have to give them props for this because the premise of the show
really did sound familiar. I was too old for the 70's live action
shows like this, they were in reruns before my cartoons came on in the
80's and I never got into them. The little clips I've seen are far
more freaky than they probably were in context. Everclear did a
tribute to the 70's called "AM Radio" and the video had clips from tv
shows, including those creepy kid shows like with a weird witch who
flew a broom car and had a talking flute.

What's also funny from the time is I remember seeing things in TV
shows that never really happened, they were just dreams that I ended
up conflating with reality. There were a few ribald jokes I remember
from You Can't Do That On Television I tried looking up and it turns
out they never aired.

Better constitutional scholars than we two have debated whether that clause
should be considered a preamble or a prerequisite. Not having this argument
here.

This is America, you can find anything, I don't care how illegal someone
says it is. I went to Bob's Pawn Shop here in town...I could today, buy a
silenced 5.56mm "pistol" with a 100 round drum, anything I'd need for a
Mac-10 or Uzi including the guns themselves, silenced .22 or 9mm handguns, a
sawn off shotgun with the words U.S. Government written across it (its
licensed for sale by the ATF), and everything but a fully automatic weapon.
Although most of those weapons I mentioned could be converted and indeed
last time I was in there a man had brought his UZI and was looking for a
part at the store, the whole while talking about "firing some bursts" at the
range.

btw. In case you didn't know, flamethrowers are completely unregulated, I
found a Chinese Flame unit for 3 Grand on Gunbroker about 3 years ago.

Yes, please. I'm a definite gun nut and just love the debate itself
but this isn't the place for it.

With the right paperwork in the right state that's true. My local
range is a class III dealer. They'll sell you all that and a full
auto bullet hose. Gotta have the right licenses for them to deal with
you of course. Still, no hand grenades or RPGs... and even with the
right federal licenses some states do not permit civilian ownership.

On the purely illegal front, an acquaintance's brother was turned in
by his girlfriend for making sten guns in his basement. Last I heard,
he was facing multiple federal charges.

Got to be careful what you let your girlfriend know about your hobbies. And
yes, that is true, although you can buy used RPG tubes, deactivated
grenades, training rounds for 40mm launchers, and sometimes the launchers
themselves. I'm sure someone with the technical knowhow could make any of
these into a working weapon.

On the girlfriend: Word was she's a sex offender who failed to
register. When the local sheriff caught up with her she said she had
knowledge of a federal felony and how about that "failure to register"
goes away?

As to reactivating used RPGs... well, given enough time and money I
suppose anything is possible. Hell, if one had access to a decent
machine shop, chem lab and raw materials one could possibly come up
with something similar to a panzerfaust. Given that we're talking
about deactivated items it might be cheaper / easier to make something
new rather than "recycling".
