[19:04] * Yuki` nods and follows, finally wiping that blood off of her face.
[19:04] * Nikolai steps quickly over to the barracks
[19:04] * Raoul sheathes his blade, if he hadn't already, and follows - with
one last look back at the was-once-an-animal.
[19:05] * GM|Aede is hunched over the sink in the barracks, dry heaving.
[19:06] * Nikolai sweats, wishing for some knowledge of first aid...
[19:06] <Raoul> "Ms. Kierly? Are you all right?"
[19:06] <GM|Aede> "No...."
[19:07] <Nikolai> "Is there anything we can get you?"
[19:07] * Yuki` looks concerned.
[19:07] <GM|Aede> "That... Thing... URK! Bad reaction."
[19:07] <GM|Aede> "Water."
[19:07] <GM|Aede> "I'm kinda sensitive to things that go wrong with the world.
That bear was one of them."
[19:08] * Nikolai makes his way to the bathroom, looking for any sort of
vessel. If not, he can use one of his empty potion vials.
[19:08] <GM|Aede> *There are plenty of dishware, mostly mugs for drinks.
[19:09] * Nikolai grabs a mug and fills it with cold water.
[19:09] * Aislinn` has been travelling for most of the night, following the
tracks of the party she was assigned to help. She is waiting in the shadows,
watching the entrance to be sure she's the only one there before she'll try to
make contact.
[19:09] <GM|Aede> "Down side to being a Geomancer. Did you find anything else
in that room?"
[19:10] <Raoul> ((...did we? I know we found a bunch of papers somewhere...))
[19:11] * Nikolai returns, and places the mug next to Aede.
[19:11] <GM|Aede> ((In the office to the right of the entrance.))
[19:11] * Yuki` shakes her head. "Not much that I can remember... but I wasn't
in good shape for a while there, so I could have missed something."
[19:11] * GM|Aede washes out her mouth and then takes a long drink. "I don't
want to be here any longer than we have too."
[19:12] <Nikolai> ((She was there for my hypothesis about the malfunctioned
Gate, right?))
[19:12] <Raoul> "Agreed. This place leaves a foul taste in my mouth as well...
In a more metaphorical sense."
[19:12] * Aislinn` sees no one else has followed her and figures she'll go get
a closer look at the entrance.
[19:12] * Anika shifts back and forth impatiently, looking as though she feels
the same way.
[19:12] <GM|Aede> ((Aede was. Hypothesis /= evidence))
[19:12] * Yuki` is going to go get a bit of water herself to wash off some of
the blood from her clothes.
[19:13] <GM|Aede> "Well then, look around, and maybe get some better lights in
here if you can."
[19:13] * Nikolai looks to Raoul. "Is there anywhere in this facility we
haven't explored?"
[19:14] <Raoul> ((That is also a fair question. IIRC, no, but it's been a few
weeks and I didn't have a chance to re-read the logs tonight.))
[19:14] <GM|Aede> ((You've been in all the rooms, but haven't had a good look
around the one where you were ambushed.))
[19:14] * Aislinn` stops at the entrance and listens to see if she can discern
anything going on inside. She knows the people she's following are in there,
but they may not be alone.
[19:15] <Nikolai> "Let's give that last room a once-over."
[19:15] * Nikolai exits to the room of the ambush.
[19:15] * Yuki` nods. "Probably a good idea."
[19:15] <Raoul> "Unfortunately so."
[19:15] * GM|Aede crawls into one of the beds. "I'll rest here."
[19:16] <Yuki`> "Okay." Yuki stats heading out, then pauses. "Just to make
sure, you can still yell if something happens, right?"
[19:16] <GM|Aede> "Sure."
[19:17] <Yuki`> "Okay, good. Go rest, Aede." Yuki follows the others.
[19:17] <GM|Aede> *Back in the room, the corpse of the bear is still there, not
yet starting to rot. You are still in the 'lab' portion of this large room.
The other portion seems to hold many, many cages. All empty.
[19:17] * Anika casts a worried look back at Aede, but follows Yuki anyway.
[19:17] <Aislinn`> (( HOw close is that to the entrance? ))
[19:18] <GM|Aede> ((IT's at the far end of the corridor from the entrance.))
[19:18] * Raoul takes the end of the line. Once back in the lab, he starts to
take a closer look at the cages - he's not entirely convinced that they're
empty *enough*.
[19:18] * Aislinn` is being all ninja and sneaking inside by now, keeping as
silent and hidden as possible. . o O (Great, plenty of places to be ambushed
from, and I just bet they aren't expecting anyone..)
[19:19] <GM|Aede> *Raoul goes down the line, and looks at the cages. They
don't ever appear to have been used.
[19:19] * Nikolai looks around anxiously, somehow unsure that the group is
alone...

animals. Dogs, cats, and even a small, familiar bear. They are smiling, and
appear to be enjoying themselves. And the pictures are polaroid.

[19:22] * Raoul looks up from the empty cages.
[19:22] * Aislinn` slowly inches down the hallway, peeking into the first door
she comes to, and seeing no one, continues walking and listening for any signs
of life.
[19:22] * Anika hums. "...Hm?"
[19:23] * Nikolai takes the pictures down and examines them closely
[19:23] <Yuki`> "So what did you find?"
[19:24] <Nikolai> "These seem to be the scientists in question. Hardly
sinister..."

[19:24] * Aislinn` looks at the first door on her left now and sees Aede
sleeping. . o O (There's one...) She opts to scope the rest of the place out
before waking Aede.

case she has to pull it suddenly.

[19:36] * Yuki` leaves her hand drift away from her knife, and bows
slightly. "Yuki Matsumoto, Hinodeumei."

[19:36] * Anika doesn't speak right away, looking at Yuki uncertainly.
[19:36] * Nikolai smiles pleasantly.
[19:36] <Yuki`> "Now, are you still here with this US military, or some other
group, too?"
[19:37] <Nikolai> "But perhaps I can see some credentials, Ms. Kelly?"
[19:37] * Aislinn` takes on a more relaxed stance. She smirks, "Ah, covert
stuff." She nods to Yuki, "Once a Marine, always a Marine, but Uncle Sam wanted
me here and I go where I'm ordered. For now, I'm helpin' y'all out."
[19:38] <Aislinn`> "Yes, I've heard about you." She tugs on a zipper on her
cargo pants and pulls out...her military ID.
[19:38] * Anika shrugs and says nothing. The "grown-ups" don't seem to have any
interest in her.
[19:39] <Nikolai> "Hmm. That'll do."
[19:39] * Nikolai extends a hand. "Nice to have you aboard."
[19:39] * Aislinn` puts her ID away and zips the pocket back. She gives
Nikolai's hand a firm shake. "Pleasure to finally be doin' somethin' here.
What's the plan now?"
[19:40] * Nikolai makes a circular motion with his finger. "Make proper
introductions to the rest of the team?"
[19:41] <Aislinn`> "Ah, right. You can all call me Aislinn or Logan, I respond
to either. You'll have to pardon me, I've been travellin' a ways to catch up
with y'all."
[19:42] * Raoul nods curtly. "Raoul al-Zeid. No further than us, no doubt."

[19:43] * Nikolai gives a smile to Anika. "Anika, introdue yourself?"
[19:43] * Aislinn` chuckles and nods. "Right."

[19:43] * Anika has already zoned out, and is fiddling with the clasp on her
overalls. "Hm? Oh, right. Anika Roeschen." Aislinn can probably tell that she
speaks English with a slight accent.
[19:44] * Aislinn` nods to her as well, she's all business at the moment. "I
take it that was Aede sleepin' back there?"

[19:45] <Nikolai> "Indeed it was."
[19:45] * Yuki` relaxes a bit more. "Yes."
[19:45] <Yuki`> "The... building didn't agree with her. Nor did that dead
bear."

[19:46] <Aislinn`> "Dead bear?" She finally glances into the lab. "...oh,
seems I missed the fun."
[19:47] <Raoul> "Oh, it was less than 'fun'."
[19:47] * Aislinn` smirks, "For you, maybe."
[19:48] * Yuki` looks down at her still kind of bloody clothes. "Definitely not
for me."
[19:48] * Aislinn` sniffs and pops her neck. "So, lettin' the boss sleep for
now? Find anythin' of use here?"
[19:49] * Nikolai holds up his polaroids. "These seem to be records of the
people at work here."
[19:50] <Nikolai> "From what we can see, they are no longer with us."
[19:50] <Aislinn`> "Polaroids? Lemme guess, they're from earthside?"
[19:51] <Nikolai> "That would be the first assumption, yes."
[19:51] <Nikolai> "Or at least connected to Earth."
[19:51] * Aislinn` hmms, "Any clue what they were workin' on?"
[19:51] <Yuki`> "Well, when it was alive, that bear was... fuzzy."
[19:51] * Yuki` pauses. "No, not in that way."
[19:52] <Yuki`> "As in, it was phasing in and out... or something."
[19:52] * Nikolai gives a look to the photo, to examine the photo for an
indication of where they were from.
[19:53] * Aislinn` arches an eyebrow. "Camoflague?"
[19:53] <GM|Aede> *The picture could have been taken just outside, pre-
explosion. Just trees in the background.
[19:53] * Yuki` shakes her head. "I... can't describe it, really."
[19:54] <Nikolai> "It was phasing in and out of perception."
[19:55] <Nikolai> "Seemingly in and out of reality."
[19:55] <Aislinn`> "...that's weird. Think it was an experiment, or got ahold
of something here?"
[19:56] <Nikolai> "I think what we fought were the last remnants of an attempt
to create a Gate."
[19:56] <Nikolai> ((Have we found any bodies, other then the bear?))

make sure y'all don't get yourselves killed."

slowly on this stuff for the Theran, here."
[20:03] * Raoul is leaning on the back wall, listening. The note about muscle
brings half a smile up - because some additional muscle would be well
appreciated, on his end at least.
[20:03] * Anika looks at Nikolai curiously. "Have you ever built a gate?"
[20:03] <Nikolai> "In any case, if we've found all we can find here, we should
get Ms. Keirley and go."
[20:03] * Nikolai looks to Anika. "Admittedly, no."
[20:05] * Aislinn` sighs, "I figured Earthside the gates just showed up, but
then they didn't tell me much. If we could build a gate, well, there's some
generals and a president who wouldn't mind comin' and goin' as they pleased to
explore this place."

[20:10] * Aislinn` chuckles dryly. "Of course. Can't let the newbie in on all

movin'."

doctor.
[20:14] * Raoul leaves to fetch their favorite Earther. Hopefully she feels
better than Yuki.

[20:14] * Anika hurries to the bathroom to fill a cup with water.
[20:15] * Nikolai casts his gaze around the room, looking for anything
unnoticed.
[20:15] * Aislinn` eyes Yuki thoughtfully and then goes off to wake up Aede.
[20:15] * Raoul gently nudges Aede. "Ms. Kierly. We're leaving."
[20:16] * GM|Aede rolls over. "cinq minute, mama"
[20:16] * Raoul nudges more insistently. Failing that... he'll just carry her
out. -_-
[20:16] * Aislinn` leans against thed doorframe. "Ma'am, we best get movin'
while there's still daylight."

and the sun. After a moments blindness due to the light, they can easilly seen
and be seen by a pair of figures a few meters off. One of whom has a really
big axe.

species called again?"
[20:22] <Yuki`> "Yeti."
[20:22] <Nikolai> "... Hello."
[20:22] <Yuki`> "...but I think we have other things to worry about."
[20:22] * Uileam has a hand over his eyes, looking at the party, then past it.
His attention snaps back to the party on the last word.
[20:22] * Raoul blinks. So many new people today.
[20:22] * Serrese , resting her oversized axe on one shoulder, turns at the
sound of something ascending from the compound. She looks at them oddly.
[20:22] <Uileam> "Could you p'raps repeat that word, ma'am?"
[20:23] <Yuki`> "...about?"

[20:23] * Nikolai blinks.
[20:23] * Uileam shakes his head slowly. "No, the other one. The answer to the

you were so worried about?>"
[20:24] * Aislinn` partially draws a knife.
[20:24] <Nikolai> "Sir, do you perhaps mean Kuleno?"
[20:24] * Anika repeats the word for him, loudly and slowly. "YE-TI."
[20:24] * Yuki` switches to Etoile when she hears it. "<What are you two
looking for, here?>"
[20:24] * Raoul raises an eyebrow at hearing Etoile. He's not really sure where
he is, but he didn't think Etoile was that near...
[20:24] <Uileam> "Ah, then I did hear right," he announces slowly before
turning to the other. "Who?"
[20:25] * Uileam is studiously not paying attention to Serrese, having possibly
found what he's here for.
[20:25] <Nikolai> "The Yeti in question. Seen any around here?"
[20:25] <Anika> "He's difficult to miss."
[20:25] <Uileam> "I was about to ask you the same, actually. I've been looking
for him for several weeks now."
[20:26] <Nikolai> "He gave us the slip while we were underground."
[20:26] <Aislinn`> "Well, I didn't run into any. I'd remember it, and I only
got here today."
[20:26] * Anika now looks thoroughly convinced that this new person is, in
fact, slightly //challenged//. How does one have difficulty locating a Yeti?
[20:26] <Uileam> "That doesn't sound like the Yeti I knew. P'raps it be best
if we found a place to sit and we can exchange stories. I'll even go first,"
he submits.

uniform.

[20:33] <Uileam> "I'm perfectly comfortable where we are now, but I gather some
place warmer would be preferred?"
[20:33] <Yuki`> "I could withstand the cold for a little while."
[20:34] <Nikolai> "Well, it's much more amicably tempered underground."
[20:34] * Yuki` sighs under her breath and looks at Nikolai.
[20:34] * Aislinn` is warm enough in her garb.
[20:35] <Nikolai> "Although... I think here will do."
[20:35] <Uileam> "Then, as I said, I'll go first."
[20:35] <Nikolai> "So. What brings you out here?"
[20:35] <Uileam> (( ps. incoming flood ))

[20:35] <Uileam> "I come from the mountains, though that is not my home world.
I come from Ireland, on Earth; I know it does not sound like I do, if any of
you are familiar with the accent, but I have lived here for... well, a long
time. Upwards of thirty years or so now. My story... well, it starts like any
normal man's.
[20:35] <Uileam> "I lived in northern Ireland and was much like any normal
Irishman. I was a devout churchman, you see, and always one for independence -
those dirty Brits could rot in hell with the rest of 'em. I know it won't mean
a lot to you, but we wanted our freedom, so we fought back. I joined the IRA -
the Irish Republican Army, y'see - and we gave 'em hell.
[20:35] <Uileam> "I worked mainly in Dublin, the city, so I worked with my
hands more often than not. I also served as a medic on the smaller jobs.
[20:35] <Uileam> "I was barely a man when my life changed forever - forgive me
for sounding melodramatic, but I think you'll agree with me when you hear me
out. We were raiding an armory in Dublin, a small operation to set up the next
big attack. I was waiting outside; I was only to enter if a man was injured.
Well, sure 'nough, the call came and in I went. The moment I crossed the
threshold, a sharp pain erupted from my abdomen.
[20:35] <Uileam> "I thought I'd been shot, but as I looked down and the pain
spread, I saw no blood. Everything was bathed in a light so white that it
burned, burned as hot as the fires of hell.
[20:35] * Serrese eyes the other party subtley, studying the unusual tastes in
clothing these people have. The story of the 'family in trouble' seems a
fabrication, though patience will warrant answers soon enough.
[20:35] <Raoul> ((whoa))
[20:36] <Uileam> (( I'm not done. :P ))
[20:36] <Uileam> "I passed out then, or at least I think I did; part of me is
still convinced I died in that doorway. Sometimes, it's easier to think of the
pain that was to follow as a dream, is the best way I can think of it. That I
survived has led me to think of it as a test from God rather than something
more... sinister. I won't recount the trials that I went through, for I don't
think it proper to do so in any sort of company.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I did eventually regain consciousness. The first thing I
heard was a giant explosion, then the second thing I thought was that this
wasn't Dublin. It couldn't be; that bloke over there was making fire out of
nothing and flinging it at some hazy target I couldn't see through the smoke
and flying debris. Then I heard a call for a medic, and my training kicked in
before I thought about it.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I was up and running to the source, already going through a
mental checklist for this kind of thing before. I stayed until the battle was
done, then I escaped in the confused aftermath that follows a pitched fight
like that was.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I had no idea where I was, no idea how I had got here or
anything else. Everywhere I turned, there was something new, something
horrrific, something wonderful to see. I made my way north, hitching a ride
when I could, walking the rest of the time. Eventually, I made it to a town
outside of a mountain range, a place where the townsfolk said no man lived, due
to its ferocious and tempermental weather.
[20:36] <Uileam> "It sounded like the ideal place for me to re-adjust my life
to these strange times.
[20:36] <Uileam> "The townsfolk didn't lie. The weather nearly killed me on
several occasions, and I wouldn't be here to tell this tale if not for a tribe
of Yeti that kept an eye on me. I think they meant to kill me at first, but as
they saw me battle the elements, p'raps that changed to an admiration for my
unwillingness to die. I can't say for certain. They didn't speak English and
I didn't speak their language, so it was an impasse.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I rarely saw them outside of the worst of the storms, the
times they knew I might need a helping hand. They never brought me to their
tribe, never brought me into their culture, but they gave me the gift of life.
They taught me how to hunt, how to build a home that would survive the
blizzards; they brought me food when the hunting was scarce.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I ventured back into town a few times a year, trading for
what I needed and couldn't provide for myself. I never got to be intimate with
the townsfolk - no, I was far too infrequent a visitor - but it only took a few
years for the children to stop crying at my appearance in town.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I traded the meats and furs that I could spare for odds and
ends here and there, sometimes for an interesting piece of news, though most of
it didn't mean much to me.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I lived that life for a long while, and I'd probably be
living that life still had events not conspired otherwise - obviously, for here
I am. On a recent trip to the town, I heard a bit of news: a large contigent
of men recently passed through, reportedly to the mountains. Though that was
all I had heard, it did not bode well with me and I made haste back to the
mountains.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I spent the better part of the next month hunting up and down
the mountainside for the Yeti tribe.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I found them, though it was probably better that they had
been left alone. All of them that I found were dead, though from what, I
couldn't tell at the time. Mystified at what I saw, I continued on in a daze
in my search for answers. I had no idea what could kill a Yeti - they were the
toughest creatures I ever saw and most certainly weren't afraid to use violence
to solve a problem.
[20:36] <Uileam> "I happened upon a small outpost, concealed to look like a
caved-in... cave. Yea. Well, the caved-in part wasn't a ruse, actually; it had
happened, and some time ago, if the clues I found were any indication.
[20:36] <Uileam> "Well, I'm no investigator and certainly no man to be a judge
of these things, so I trekked back down to the town one last time. I called in
all the favors I had and then some, got me some money and supplies to keep me
from dying. The last I heard in that town was that the same men were seen
dragging huge sleds piled high with something they kept cover
[20:36] <Uileam> "Rumor had it that they were live beasts and one of them had
broken free and killed some of the men. With that as my only lead, I set out
to find the Yetis; I still had a debt to pay to them."

[20:36] <Uileam> (( Now I'm done. Y'all can skip it for the most part - I just
wanted it in the logs. <.< ))

town the whole story, but as I understood, the Yeti were not widely known

[20:38] <Aislinn`> "Sooo, you're a terrorist."
[20:38] * Uileam turns back to the group at large. "So it would seem, I s'pose,
now that I tell all of it."

[20:39] * Serrese nods. "Despite your methods for gaining them, you still have

Aislinn a questioning look.
[20:41] <Aislinn`> "You said you're ex-IRA and you were bombing...nevermind."
She sighs, "IRA is really nothin' now compared to Al Quaida."

[20:41] <Nikolai> "Well, for the time being, I'd like to find out where Kuleno
went. Thus, our goals intersect."
[20:42] <Raoul> "And we have few leads as to the events that occurred here.
Those weigh just as heavily, I think."

[20:42] <Uileam> "I would call the British these... 'terrorists', or whatever
you would call them. We just wanted our freedom."

needed by this many people. She will contact them once she is able to find a
Defenders outpost. For the moment, she listens to the conflict.

[20:44] <Aislinn`> "I agree with, uh, Nikolai, was it?"
[20:44] <Uileam> "But as you seem to hold your views, we shall have to agree to
disagree. And as for our goals... I think mine are a bit more wider-reaching
than yours, but finding Kuleno is the first step, yes."

anything approaching.
[20:55] <Uileam> "I can't help but wonder if it's not the same group of men
that were said to be in town before the tribe was murdered..."

nods to the sleeping Aede, "might have something to contribute?"
