they get off the train, and makes sure that everyone has their
luggage before the train moves to uload its cargo.

the train - especially off of its roof.

[19:04] <GM|JonB> *Yuki is the only one who notices this, mainly
because of her previous 'occupation', but there are a lot of angry
glances at the party. Especially Raoul.
[19:04] * Nikolai is a tad demoralized by the unsucessful train sweep.
[19:05] * Yuki` tries to keep her head down and not be that much
noticed. She did not need that attention.
[19:06] * Yuki` whispers to the others "We need to stay off the r-
the map. We're already getting a lot of unwanted attention from
people who don't seem to like us."
[19:07] * Nikolai looks around to verify this.
[19:07] * Yuki` whispers harshly "don't look!"
[19:07] * Raoul hasn't noticed, but nods a general kind of nod. He's
looking for docks that might have a boat for rent, pilot included or
not; the idea of being back on the sea, after that exhilirating ride,
is foremost on his mind.
[19:07] <Yuki`> "That'll just draw more attention."
[19:08] * Nikolai blinks and returns to face-forward
[19:09] <GM|JonB> *The docks aren't had to find for Raoul, he just
goes downhill.
[19:09] * Nikolai mutters to Yuki. "Why do you think these people
look hostile?"
[19:09] * Raoul thinks, and decides that, given this crew, a bigger
vessel might work better: a real ferry, or hope of hopes, a vessel in
the employ of the Azragi royalty.
[19:10] <Raoul> "Hm. Perhaps they know our penchant for finding
trouble?"
[19:10] <Yuki`> "Politics, I'm guessing. That's the normal reason,
especially with Refulgo."
[19:11] <Yuki`> "And didn't someone mention something about this
place being occupied?"
[19:12] * Kuleno looks around, notices the uncomfortable looks and
makes sure to keep a closer eye out. No guessing what might happen
next.
[19:12] <Nikolai> "I suppose that's true... but how would people know
of our ties?"
[19:13] <Yuki`> "They don't. I'm pretty obviously Hino, but we got
off a train from Refulgo."
[19:13] <Raoul> "Word flies as fast as the wind..."
[19:14] * Raoul stops talking, and starts really looking at the
larger boats down the docks, away from the fishers and fun-sailors.
Are they big enough, seaworthy, speedy, and importantly, available?

[19:14] * Nikolai examines himself. He is a little standout-y.

[19:16] <Nikolai> ((Yeah, I was thinking we were following Raoul))
[19:16] <Raoul> ((Raoul hears the call of the sea more than you guys;
he'd only notice you following tangentially. Imagine a young man at a
car dealership looking for a ride, and there you go. <.<))
[19:18] <GM|JonB> *The docks are far busier than the train station,
as this is a port town first and forever. Fishing trawlers, cargo
ships, passenger liners, and hordes of other craft crowd the
waterways. In some places it looks like you can walk across the
boats and never touch water.
[19:19] <GM|JonB> *And the shore... Even busier. Just about every
species is represented, and every job as well. From night walkers to
huskers to large people looking for work on a boat...
[19:20] * Nikolai looks about with interest, still scanning for ugly
looks.
[19:20] <GM|JonB> Raoul, however, is in his element. He glides
through the crowds, and finds himself in a less crowded section of
the quays. It seems that this ship is a ferry, and flies the flag of
Biet.
[19:21] * Raoul smiles at seeing the familiar colors, and nearly
skips to that vessel. "Ah! A seaworthy vessel if ever could be, if
she flies the flag."
[19:22] * Yuki` follows, trying to look non-obtrusive.
[19:22] * Kuleno plods along behind, letting Raoul lead the way. He's
out of his element here.
[19:22] * Nikolai identifies the Biet flag. "Is that your native
land, Raoul?"
[19:22] <GM|JonB> An Able-Bodied man looks up at Raoul, and his face
pales as he looks at the royal standing before him. "M.. M.. My
lord!"
[19:23] * Raoul 's grin grows wider, and he turns to Nikolai for a
quick reply: "Yes."
[19:24] <Raoul> "Please, brother citizen. What brings you to these
shores?"
[19:24] <GM|JonB> The seaman turns and yells up at the crew of the
ship, in 'Beit. <Get an officer! There's a royal here!>
[19:24] * GM|JonB is now known as GM|Mulhindar
[19:25] <GM|Mulhindar> "My Lord! We are here on a regular passenger
service from the capital to this small port. I have summoned an
officer for your service!"
[19:25] <Raoul> "Ah. Very good, very good."
[19:26] <GM|Mulhindar> *An officer appears on the deck, also dressed
in royal colours, albeit, no where near as obvious as Raoul.
[19:27] <GM|Mulhindar> *He bows, and gestures for the party to come
aboard. "My lord, these are your guests?"
[19:28] * Raoul was about to make small talk about the ship, but
stops on seeing the officer arrive. "Yes... Is this your ship,
officer?"
[19:29] <GM|Mulhindar> "No, my lord. I am but Senior Leftenant
Shuresh, the Captain is on shore, and I am the officer of the watch.
How may we be of service?"
[19:29] * GM|Mulhindar is now known as GM|Shuresh
[19:30] <Raoul> "To speak plainly: Have you room on this good ship to
transport myself and my guests to our Azure Isles?"
[19:30] * Nikolai kicks idly.
[19:31] * GM|Shuresh smiles grandly. "Of course, my lord! Please,
come aboard, all of you!"
[19:31] * Raoul grins widely again, and then nods to his
companions. "Come! I shall show you what a real mode of
transportation is."
[19:32] * Yuki` looks at Raoul and thinks . o O (Wow. He's a lot more
connected than I thought.)
[19:32] <GM|Shuresh> ((Nah, generic royal gets the treatment.))
[19:32] * Nikolai snaps to attenton in time to jump on board.
[19:32] * GM|Shuresh looks at Mulhindar. "You! Get the Captain and
Quartermaster! And be quick about it!"
[19:33] <GM|Shuresh> *The Ablebodied Seaman salutes and runs off.
[19:33] <Raoul> ((I *am* 138th in line for the throne, here.))
[19:33] <GM|Shuresh> "My Lord, may I have the pleasure of your name,
as well as those of your guests?"
[19:34] <Raoul> ((Ergo, only 137 other people demand more respect!))
[19:34] * Yuki` follows getting on the ship, but otherwise remains
silent.
[19:34] * Nikolai waves to Shuresh. "Nikolai Cadmus. A pleasure."
[19:34] <Raoul> "Of course. I am Raoul al-Zeid, 138th in line. I will
allow my companions to introduce themselves."
[19:35] * Yuki` bows. "Yuki Matsumoto."
[19:35] <GM|Shuresh> ((I'll assume Anika introduces herself))
[19:36] * Kuleno grunts, nothing that can be understood to those that
speak Common only.
[19:37] * Nikolai smiles. "This is Kuleno."
[19:37] <GM|Shuresh> "Welcome! Welcome! While we await the
quartermaster to to grace you with suitable rooms, perhaps your
Lordship and guests would like a tour?"
[19:37] * Kuleno grunts. His stomach growls. That needs no
translation.
[19:38] <GM|Shuresh> "I can see the galleys would be a good place to
start."
[19:38] <Raoul> "Ah! I am quite curious about your vessel, I must
admit. How well does she manage the jaunt between here and home?"
[19:38] <Raoul> "But, the galleys may be a safer first destination. A
hungry Yeti has led to trouble before."
[19:39] * GM|Shuresh leads the way, kicking crewmen out of the way as
needed. The galleys are near the aft of the boat, below the officer's
quarters.
[19:40] * Kuleno growls at that.
[19:40] <Raoul> ((<.< Hey, you don't wanna be hungry and more than we
want you to be hungry.))
[19:40] * Nikolai follows along the tour.
[19:41] <GM|Shuresh> "This ship is a Sassanid class ship, my lord.
Crew of 75, plus officers, good armament to ward of pirates, and can
take up to 300 passangers and cargo from here to the Islands in a
week, with avarage winds and currents."
[19:41] * GM|Shuresh is proud of his ship.
[19:42] <GM|Shuresh> *The galleys are large, they have to be to
support some 400+ people. And well stocked. Kuelno, as a guest of
Raoul, has no problems getting what he wants.
[19:42] <Raoul> "A stout vessel, then, and a worthy one. Have those
armaments been often used?"
[19:43] * GM|Shuresh beams with pride. "We fought off raiders in the
Invasion 5 years back sir, I myself was a lowly Ensign, and can say
with pride that I helped sink those vessels that assailed us."
[19:44] <GM|Shuresh> ((If anyone wants to get something to eat or
drink, go ahead.))
[19:44] * Nikolai turns to Kuleno. "I'm going to get a snack, if you
want to join me."
[19:45] * Raoul glances back at his companions, aware that some of
them might feel a little differently about Refulgo ships sinking than
he might, even given the circumstances then. "Then I am glad that
this ship has survived so much. Other transportations we have used
have also faced their own hardships."
[19:45] <Raoul> "That this one is better-equipped to confront danger
heartens me."
[19:45] * Kuleno becomes a little more content, having a small meal
of his own. Small enough to carry around, though.
[19:46] <GM|Shuresh> "If you wish to continue the tour, I can gladly
assist you, My lord and guests. If you would rather refresh
yourselves here, while we await the Captain and Quartermaster, that
is quite acceptable."
[19:46] <Yuki`> "Hopefully it won't be needed for this trip."
[19:48] <GM|Shuresh> "But we stand ever vigilant, my lady. By your
name, you are from Hino, are you not? I have yet to make that voyage
myself. I would presume that this ship will better service you than
the other one."
[19:49] * Raoul thinks a moment, and then speaks a little more
quietly: "I will await to see the bridge upon the captain's return.
For now, to be on a good ship with countrymen and new companions is a
happy enough moment for me."
[19:49] * Nikolai returns to the tour with something equivalent to a
sandwhich filled with some equivalent to beef.
[19:50] * GM|Shuresh takes the compliment in stride. Switching to the
native tounge of the Isles, he continues. <My Lord Raoul, have you
been away from the home Islands long?>
[19:51] <Raoul> "<Not terribly so, but it has been an adventurous
time nonetheless - every day feels like a week.>"
[19:51] <Raoul> "<To go home, even in the course of duty, and even
knowing such a return may be fleeting, will be refreshing. Moreso if
nothing explodes on the way.>"
[19:52] <GM|Shuresh> <"Let it bee good to set upon the waves again.
I would expect you to be given birth in one of the officer's
quarters, your compainions in the civilian berths">
[19:54] <GM|Shuresh> *As you settle in for lunch, you can hear the
sounds of heavy footfalls coming your way, before stopping at the
entrance to the galley. In walks a man with a white turban, followed
by a woman. He greets you warmly.
[19:54] * GM|Shuresh is now known as GM|Abdolhossein
[19:54] <Raoul> "<That will do nicely, yes... Ah!>"
[19:55] <Raoul> "<I presume you are the captain of this vessel?>"
[19:55] <GM|Abdolhossein> "My lord! I am Captain Abdolhossein, and
this is my wife, our Quartermaster. Youre presence is a blessing, as
well as those of your compantions. You seek passage to the Isles?"
[19:56] * Raoul coughs, switching to Common - he was not certain the
captain would know it, but if he does, speaking for all to hear might
be better.
[19:57] <Raoul> "Yes, Captain Abdolhossein. I am pleased to make your
acquaintance, and do ask for passage home for myself and my
companions."
[19:59] <GM|Abdolhossein> "Of course, of course! I see that you have
been well fed. Please, make yourselves at home on my vessel. My
wife shall give you appropriate quarters, and any of our officers can
see to your needs. You are a bit early though, we would be boarding
passengers tommorow, unless there is some haste required?"
[19:59] <Raoul> ((Hm. Do we want to shove off early? I dislike taking
the money from this guy's revenue stream like that, but on the other
hand... things explode when we're around.))
[20:00] <GM|Abdolhossein> ((You take his money, you can be sure he'll
get it back from you.))
[20:00] * Nikolai looks to Raoul. "It may be best to leave as soon as
possible."
[20:01] <Raoul> ((I planned on promising him recompense, ideally from
the treasury. But yeah, I have no intention of screwing Cap'n A
over.))
[20:02] * Raoul nods. "I believe haste may be best, yes. Our waiting
in port may subject both ourselves and your ship to danger."
[20:03] <Raoul> "However, I realize that this is burdensome to
yourself and your crew: I will attempt to recompense you from the
treasury for the trouble when we arrive. If they disapprove, I will
recompense you myself."
[20:03] * GM|Abdolhossein is looks slightly shocked. "As you wish my
lord. It will take a bit of time to gather my crew from leave, but we
can sail within the hour."
[20:04] * GM|Abdolhossein turns to Suresh and gives rapidfire orders.
Within a minute, the ship is preparing to sail.
[20:04] <Raoul> "Very good. I again apologize for this haste, but it
is a necessary imposition."
[20:06] <GM|Abdolhossein> <"I am not pleased with this. Whatever you
have, had better be important. You would not be the first Lord I
have brought to task for failing to use thier power responsibly.">
[20:06] * Nikolai puts on his best diplomat smile. "Many thanks,
Captain. I cannot express my gratitude, and the service you are
rendering your country."
[20:07] <GM|Abdolhossein> *The quartermaster, a woman in her 40's,
smiles. "Please, come with me, I can show you to your quarters,
where you can stay until we are ready to depart. There is no sense
in being in the way."
[20:07] <Raoul> "<I am well aware of that, Captain, and I do not do
this lightly.>"
[20:08] <GM|Abdolhossein> <"I would hope so, my Lord.">
[20:08] * Raoul breathes, nods to the Captain, and follows the
quartermaster. "Indeed."
[20:08] * Yuki` will go follow the quartermaster, then.
[20:09] * Kuleno continues to follow along dutifully, very much
content with the galley's work.
[20:09] <GM|Abdolhossein> *Raoul is given a Leftanant's quarters,
while Yuki and Anika are offered to share the cabin of the
Quartermaster. The rest are allowed to choose thier own spaces in
the passenger berths, which are nearly empty, given the haste of the
departure.
[20:10] * Yuki` is fine with staying with Anika, but she isn't that
sure about staying with the quartermaster. She can live with it, but
she'll be cautious.
[20:11] <GM|Abdolhossein> ((Women on the ship, segregated quarters.))
[20:11] * Nikolai hangs in his chosen bunk.
[20:11] <Yuki`> ((Ah.))
[20:11] <GM|Abdolhossein> *Within the hour, the ship is ready to
sail, and begins to make its slow way out of the harbor. Soon, you
are out on the open sea, and making good headway towards the Azure
Isles.
[20:13] <GM|Abdolhossein> *There are some other passengers, merchants
for the most part, who had thier cargos stored away before the
passengers would normally be let aboard.
[20:13] <Nikolai> "So, Kuleno. Where do you come from?"
[20:13] <GM|Abdolhossein> *The crew is also slightly put off by the
sudden departure, as well as the lack of passengers.
[20:14] * Kuleno grunts. "From mountains."
[20:15] <GM|Abdolhossein> *That evening, the Captain invites all of
you to dine at the Captain's table.
[20:15] <Nikolai> "Ahh, the frozen north? Did you like it there?"
[20:15] <GM|Abdolhossein> ((I'll wait until Nikolai and Kuleno have
thier talk first.))
[20:15] <Raoul> ((coo))
[20:15] * Kuleno grunts again. "Home."
[20:16] * Nikolai lets that hang, and enjoys silence before receiving
the summons to the Captain's table.
[20:17] <GM|Abdolhossein> *The table is well stocked, as night
falls. The Captain, first mate and Quartermaster are all also in
attendence.
[20:17] <GM|Abdolhossein> "Are you finding the quarters to your
satisfaction, Lord Raoul?
[20:18] <Raoul> "Very much so, yes. They are finer accomidations than
those on Refulgan trains, certainly."
[20:18] * Yuki` tries to wear her good clothes to this. But she
doesn't really have any, sadly, so it's her standard wear.
[20:18] * Nikolai sits quietly at his house.
[20:18] <GM|Abdolhossein> ((house?))
[20:18] <Nikolai> ((umm... Seat, I mean))
[20:19] <Nikolai> ((I have no clue where that came from))

[20:19] <GM|Abdolhossein> "So, guests of Lord Raoul, where do you
hail from? I have rarely seen such a diverse looking fellowship to
travel the waves together."
[20:20] * Kuleno really doesn't feel like repeating himself.
[20:21] * GM|Abdolhossein looks at Nikolai and Anika, the two
most 'out of place'.
[20:21] * Raoul smiles. This will be interesting - he has not heard
the full stories himself.
[20:21] <Yuki`> "I am from Hinodeumei, as is probably obvious."
[20:21] <Nikolai> "I'm Nikolai Cadmus. The large gentleman is Kuleno."

[20:23] <Nikolai> "I'm from Refulgo, though I was actually born in

[20:26] <GM|Abdolhossein> "Ah, a magus from Reufelgo. I can

[20:27] <Nikolai> "Master Raoul thought it would be best to have one
of my expertise as a consultant."
[20:27] * GM|Abdolhossein casts a glance at Raoul, trying to divine
his true purpose.
[20:28] * Raoul glances back, having been listening to his
companions. "We have had an encounter or two with magic as of late.
Nikolai has been most helpful."
[20:28] <GM|Abdolhossein> "Ah."
[20:28] <GM|Abdolhossein> "And the rest of you?"
[20:29] * Nikolai butters a roll, having effectively passed the ball
to Raoul.
[20:31] <GM|Abdolhossein> "We should arrive at our home shores in a
week. I would suggest you make yourselves comfortable for the
duration of the trip."
[20:31] <Yuki`> "Well... Almost random chance in my case. A mututal
acquaintence asked me to help him, and I could not refuse. We had a
mutual acquaintence who asked me to help."
[20:31] <Raoul> ((Heh. I was about to jump in with something too.

[20:31] <Yuki`> ((...remove that last sentence. >_<))
[20:32] <GM|Abdolhossein> ((So RetConned!))
[20:32] <GM|Abdolhossein> ((/me checks the time, and decides to get
on with it.))
[20:33] <GM|Abdolhossein> A couple days into the journey, out on the
open water, the boat, named 'Pahlvi Sukhan', is approached about noon
by a small skiff.
[20:34] * Nikolai hangs around the prow, looking out on the ocean.
[20:34] <GM|Abdolhossein> They approach from the fore, but fly no
flag that can be seen. Some of the crew mutter about the poor
manners of the other boat, and take pride in their perfection.
[20:35] * Raoul looks out to the boat. The lack of a flag gives him
pause.
[20:35] * Yuki` is mainly keeping to herself, although she talks to
Anika whenever Anika insists. Which happens to be pretty often. At
the moment, she should be around the door to go below deck.
[20:36] <GM|Abdolhossein> As they get closer, the watch officer on
the prow hails them, but they get no response. The skiff turns to
run paralell to the Sukhan, but in the opposite direction, but a good
dozen meters away. There are no weapons on teh skiff, but one
person, dressed in robes stands on the forecastle.
[20:36] * Kuleno hangs around abovedecks - for the space, not for the
sights. "Why coming?"
[20:37] * Nikolai looks out to the approaching ship.
[20:37] <GM|Abdolhossein> As his boat reaches the midmast of the
Sukhan, he screams aloud; "FREE FAANGAAR!" and points at the ship,
uttering dark arcane words.
[20:37] * Raoul looks at the robes. Blue? White? Or- oh. God*damnit*
[20:37] <Yuki`> "...shit." Yuki takes out her knife.
[20:37] * Nikolai curses, and jumps to the lower level of the ship,
gathering magicks.
[20:38] <GM|Abdolhossein> With little warning, a cloud of sulfer
appears on the deck of Sukan, which rapidly coalesces into, well,
it's a demon.
[20:38] <GM|Abdolhossein> (( :) ))

[20:38] * Raoul yells to the Captain, if possible. "Captain! I do not
mean to impose, but I highly suggest evasive maneuvers and manning

[20:39] * Yuki` is going to head over to the others, knife still in
hand. Safety in numbers, et cetera.
[20:39] * Raoul checks the distance. Is this demon going to be within
striking range of the ship? Or is this an entirely long-range battle?
if the latter, he'll get to the bridge and help out there.
[20:39] <GM|Abdolhossein> *As the demon (which isn't burning,
thankfully) appears on the deck, the crew scatters, and the skiff
turns to race away.
[20:40] * Kuleno grunts and makes no motion, but a cloud of his own
appears over his head. When it clears, the woman is standing next to
him. He turns to her, listening to her whispers.
