I got my black box...   Message List

I got my The special `Black Box' edition of WARLANDS last night, and
as promised here's a review of the contents:

1. The Utility Truck (x1): The Armored bad boy that was previewed on
the website. When I first opened the box I was like "@#$%! That's
huge!" But on closer inspection it's right in line with a Johnny
Lightning Chevy Van I had on my desk. It fit's nicely on the DF road
grid, with just a little overhang for the dually wheels in the rear.
The model is battle-worn with dents and bullet holes, but is otherwise
pretty spartan, which I like, as it'll make it easy to spice them up
with things like side steps, bed rails, etc. The Model was for the
most part clean and free of mold lines flash and miscasts, being two
parts, the truck itself and the tailgate (optional). The plastic is
easy to scrape with a sharp knife, so clean up was easy. I scraped
some of the panel lines a bit deeper for added definition. The only
bad part on the model was the exhaust pipes were boogered up, so I'll
just cut them off and build some new ones. All in all a pretty win
model, I can't wait to give it a flashy paint job.

2. The Buggies (x2): or Renegades if you will, think of the classic
Tamiya or Tyco R/C cars...The Turbo Hopper or The Hornet, that's
pretty much what the look like. More Parts to these too, Body, Driver,
Rollcage, and Gunner w/ Autocannon (x2) or Rocketlauncher (x1). All of
the above good points of the truck hold true for these as well, but
they'll require a little more clean up, especially the wheels. As for
the wheels themselves, the rear rims are a little hokey looking, but
not bad...I can live with them. The front rims on the other hand are
pretty bad, and I don't think I can save them even with some careful
trimming and carving. I'll probably file them off and scratch build
something to replace them, or cut the wheels off altogether and
replace them with with some spares I have lying around. Then again,
I'm fussy about my models, they may be fine for you. They'll look the
business when painted, I have no doubt.

3. Metal bits: There's nothing special here, an armor plate and two
rolled up tarps. You most likely have something similar in your bits
box already...but it's always nice to have more.

4. Dice and Rulebook: I glanced at the rules, I'll give them a closer
read later when I'm on the john or something. The dice are a nice
touch, but hell, you all have plenty I'm sure. You're all just
interested in the models , right?

To sum it all up I'm pretty pleased with the purchase, either as more
models for Dark Future or for a game of Warlands. I hope to get paint
to them relatively soon, I'll post pics when I do...Enjoy!
