I have used CODA for a variety of campaigns over the last year or so ,
including converting Sycraft D20 and the 7th Sea RPG.
Currently we are using the CODA rules in a DOCTOR WHO campaign.
I prefer it over the D20 system because it is not level based.
Like someone recently said on a Star wars mailing list... (Not verbatim) "It
was better when Stormtroopers were given specific stats and were not changed
all because the group rose in level." I agree with this after all, Heroes are
what makes many games great. Having a 16th level smuggler run up against 4
Level 10 stormtroopers doesnt give the feeling of heroics, it gives me a reason
to think the GM just wishes to make us FAIL.

I have been running LOTR PbPs for some time now and I know of a few groups
using my Harry Potter game as well. There has even been expressed interest
in a generic CODA webzine (which has been difficult to get off the ground).
These are just to name a few....
Death spiral of the Health and how it affects the ability perform actions.
Character creation and advancement options aren't rigid.
There is no upper limit to how many advancements a character can have.
Magic is a bit more intuitive and customizable.
Characters will start out typically more powerful than DnD, but advance
more slowly.

Somehow I lost my subscription to this wonderful list. When I was last
around, GoB and I were hashing around different ways to recreate helicopter
speeds. Seems like it's come pretty far in the interim.
Question: How often has anyone here used CODA in a campaign? And what does
it have that recommends it over d20?

This is an open call for anyone out there interested in helping make a
difference in the gaming of so many in the realm of Middle-earth. If
you have the programs and the ability to manage a (hopefully) regular
schedule of release, please contact me if you are interested in being
the Hall of Fire's new layout editor/artist. If you aren't so inclined
in this venture, maybe you know someone who is. If so, please pass
this along to them.
It is very important that someone steps up soon so you can get
acclimated to the layout and begin working as soon as possible for the
next issue.

It's fixed (I hope). Sorry it took so long.

Does anyone have or know where I can get a LOTR character sheet?
I was perusing the internet and found a really cool blue & white 3-page Star
Trek character sheet, but wondering if there is an LOTR version that is
similar??

I've updated my site concerning for the CODA BSR and released the
latest version which includes a number of new things outlined in the
version log.
Enjoy!

sshum2003: I think is a good idea. It might a way to 'prepublish'
some of the alternative rules that the Coda Lives! website indicates
that you are working on, so you can get feedback before incorporating
them into the main rule set. Or you might find out through feedback
on the generic Coda Webzine that these expanded or alternative rules
should be in a seperate supplement. Same with the Super Coda rules
that you intend to work on. Samples of the Harry Potter other plan
releases might be good to give people an advance look at.
It would be interesting to see the Munson Rifts WARS as it is a
Decipher property but published under d20 System rules by Mongoose in
a Coda rule set.
Given at this time that Beyond the Final Frontier (BTFF) is bi-
monthly it seem to fit that the suggested webzine would be bi-monthly
opposite BTFF.
Possible names: deCoda (variant of decode & plays on Decipher),
Decode, Decoding, CODA Lives!, cLives!

I've updated my website (http://home.mchsi.com/~gandalfofborg/) with a
number of new links for recent information about the RPG lines as
discussed here on the boards, a new shortcut to the most recent issue
of the webzines on the Home page, and put out a query concerning
optional rules for Supers games in the BSR.
Check it out and let me know what you think here or otherwise. Any and
all suggestions are welcome to improve the site.
Thank you for your time.
Well since free websites are apparently more hassle than they are
worth, I have managed to set up a site through my ISP with the BSR
available along with my Harry Potter RPG and issues of the CODA game
webzines. Barring any further problems, this site
will no longer be updated with new versions. The URL for the new site
is:
http://home.mchsi.com/~gandalfofborg/
Thank you for your dedication and patronage to this site for so long :)
GOB
Just got this posting from TREKWEB, stating that Decipher has
apparently closed shop:
http://trekweb.com/articles/2005/08/16/4301ed8433f18.shtml
What this means for the STAR TREK and LORD OF THE RINGS lines of CCGs,
RPGs and magazines, we can only guess.
Now that the Helm's Deep SB has been released, I will be working on
incorporating/revising much of what I have done for the mass combat
rules. Look for it in the next version release.
GOB
The new version of the BSR is out, see Update Notes.txt for info on
what was changed/added. The superhero creation rules are tentative
(probably tends toward creating low-powered supers) and there are more
abilities to come as well. New supplemental items (character sheets
adapted from The Incredibles) will be available soon, too.
Feedback is always accepted, so please share your experiences.
Happy Gaming!
