So, I haven't been posting much today, but I have been reading pretty
carefully.
Many of you have complained of excessive noise on this list. These
complaints are justified. A solution is at hand.
---------------------------------------------
There are now three "official" Cloudmaker lists:
1) Cloudmakers-Announce. This is the extremely-low traffic version
of Cloudmakers. If you want to hear just the nittiest gritty,
subscribe to that list. You'll only hear about the latest verified
breakthroughs. No speculation, no debate, no posting whatsoever
except by the moderators.

2) Cloudmakers-Moderated. This is the medium traffic version of
Cloudmakers. Here, you'll only hear about the stuff that the
moderators thought was good enough to read. We won't guarantee that
anything in here will be good, but we promise to try to make sure that
as little redundancy sneaks in as possible. We'll be taking posts
from Cloudmakers and bouncing them here.

3) Cloudmakers. This is the maximum traffic version of Cloudmakers.
Anyone can post anything they like here. This list contains the
most-up-to-date info, but is considerably higher noise than either of
the other two lists.

---------------------------------------------
Starting now, LABEL YOUR POSTS!!! If a post's not labelled, it
doesn't get into cloudmakers-moderated.
EXAMPLES OF LABELS:
* SPEC - Speculation. You think your post might be right, and some
evidence supports your view, but the point is not conclusive.
* GAMESITE - New IN GAME site. You think you know of a site that was
designed as part of the game, and that no one else is aware of it yet.
* TRIVIA - Facts about the game which COULD be relevant, but which, as
far as you can tell, probably aren't.
* HUMOR - A post which is funny.
* ETHICS - Discussion of how players ought to play this game.
* CONTACT - A post regarding contact with the puppetmasters, usually
via e-mail.
* PHONE - Game-related phone numbers or voicemail codes.
* PASSWORD - *Guessing* passwords and logins (on the basis of
evidence). This includes logins, UAMs, credit
numbers, faculty searches, etc.
* PUZZLE - Game related puzzles which do not fall into the above
categories.
* SOURCE - Analyses of the HTML source code underlying game-related
pages.
* META - Discussions of what the moderators are doing wrong, new
labels we should use, or about the Cloudmakers organization generally.
* ANNOUNCE - Announcements. You probably shouldn't use this unless
you're announcing a Trail update or something like that.
* FLAME - Replies to a stupid or redundant post.
You should use multiple labels, when appropriate. For example,
speculation as to how to solve the chemistry puzzle should go into
SPEC/PUZZLE. (Of course, it's unlikely that any such discussion is
relevant any longer, but that's how you'd label it under the current
system.)
Posts bearing *any* of the above labels may receive moderation, even
speculation, trivia and flames. We may forward speculation , but only
if we think it's GOOD speculation. We may forward flames, but only if
we feel that your flame merits widespread viewing. We may forward
humor, but only if we think that it's funny.
If you don't want to read any CM humor, you don't have to. That's
what the labels are for. On CM-mod, you can be assured that you need
see nothing more than the subject lines of pointlessly humorous
posts. (Spoilsport.)
Don't make up new labels unless you really feel like none of the
earlier labels are at all applicable. We're going to be more unlikely
to forward your post if you made up your label.
Game on!
