The most exciting news is famous New York chess instructors David
MacEnulty & Bruce Pandolfini will be the instructors at a 2-day training
event coming up on on Thursday, August 12th & Friday, August 13th. They
are nationally acclaimed in their teaching results in raising up chess
champions & have authored many successful & current books. David
MacEnulty has also co-authored chess software "Think Like a King",
available for different needs: single person use, family, club, or
school use. Of course, Bruce Pandolfini is well known not only for his
books over the years, but also for his articles in Chess Life. Thursday
& Friday sessions are for all ages, there will be an evening side event
for teachers/coaches/parents. MacEnulty & Pandolfini will also be
available for some private lessons as time permits.
Following the 2-day training event, on August 14th, there will be an
open, unrated chess tournament to be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in
Eagle, just a short distance from the previous two days' events. The
entry is $10/player with cash awards for prizes.

I received an email from Jerry Larkin, founder of the Chess Education Foundation based in Longview WA since 1995. The CEF ran scholarship chess tournaments for several years. Jerry's looking for someone to take over the reigns of the organization and once again hold scholarship events (not necessarily in Longview). CEF has tax-exempt status with both Washington state and the federal government. If you're interested, you can email Jerry Chessed@... or give him a call 360-578-3870.
A few new features are being added to the Clatskanie website. A tournament entry page which will show all entries prior to our tournaments. "Chess Chat" interviews with local chess players... the first interview is with the famous (should we say infamous?) Nick Raptis and will be hot off the presses this week.
