First off, I would like to apologize to everyone
for not posting in some time. I have, howerver, been
keeping abreast of your postings. In the future, I hope
to be more regular postings.<br><br>Now, I would
like to start off by mentioning attendance.<br>I have
noticed, of late, that participation on Friday nights now
averages two players. I know this may be blamed on my
failure to use the new scheduling systems. However,
personally, I feel that people either have lost interest
about playing then or have found something else to do
or both. <br>Therefore, I have decided to watch the
next couple Friday night sessions and if the
attendance remains low, I will eliminate Friday from the
gaming schedule and return to a single night of
playing.<br>This is not a reprimand. I just want to make the most
use of everyones' time.<br><br>Second, I see a lot of
postings about returning the SW game. I also see a strong
pull to remain in the WEG system as opposed to WotC.
Personally, I don't want to just reject the latter out of
hand without giving it a try. However, I will bow to
the majority on this issue, hence, the introductory
adventure. I can go either way.<br><br>Lastly, with such a
strong SW showing, I have to ask; "When would you like
to resume the Yeslan Campaign?"
I haven't been here on Fridays because I was on
break...I'll be showing up now that I'm back at
school.<br><br>On that note, Vampire also starts up again Saturday.
I'd also like to start generating Call of Cthulhu
characters for more people as we wind down the Vampire
chronicle.
Personally I don't like the idea of canning
friday, espically since I LIKE D&D a lot more then Star
Wars.<br><br>However, perhaps people would show much interest with the
Yeslan Campaign on Friday? I dunno.<br><br>Could always
use Friday for more Serra. *grins*<br><br>However,
I'll be very pissed if D&D is canned for Star Wars and
then Decoy (or DarkSabre) and I are the only ones
showing up.
With the scheduling, the low turnout as of late,
and the interest in SW I think the best idea would be
to take a few steps.<br><br>First, we could have SW
one night and D&D the other, depending on who can
make which. I think the change would help perhaps
inject some life as things seem to have been bogging
down of late. As far as which rule system to use, I
think we should keep our minds open, and have that test
run of the new rules. We can always stay with the old
system if we don't like the new rules. Even though I
haven't tried the new rules and have yet to see their
drawbacks, I would like to try them out because of some
drawbacks of the old WEG system. A couple of these being
namely their being no real danger for the player
characters once they store up a lot of CPs, since they can
just use 5 a round to absorb damage and never get
hurt, and for non Jedi characters the fact Jedi
characters are so powerful they tend to steal the show. Plus
the ability to actually have a lightersaber duel
that's longer than one round 8^). I'd like to try out
Chaser's mini adventure immediately or as soon as
possible, with a view to resuming the Yeslan Campaign after
that and we have the inevitible argument over which
rules system to use 8^).<br><br>Secondly, I think it'd
be a big help if we could come up with some sort of
system or people just let Chaser know if they can't make
it if they know ahead of time. That way if a session
needs cancelled for example, a message can be posted
here by say Wednesday so that everyone knows and no
one shows up for no reason. I think that would also
make things run a lot smoother and prevent turning off
people who do turn up from turning up say the next week
8^). Also, for example, if we do go to just one night,
there have been times when there's one or two people
one night and practically everyone the next. This way
we can make that one night, with the most players
present.<br><br>Third, and finally, I think we need some new life
brought into the game. We have done this in cycles in the
past but it has been a long time since we have had
some new blood breath some life into the game. This
would also help with the attendance issue as
well.<br><br>Well, there's my 2 cents.
One other note I forgot 8^).<br><br>I think
another option would be to go back to one longer session
than two shorter ones. It seems by the time things get
going or any type of flow gets going things are shut
down for the night. This might help with attendance as
well.
As of late I've been testing the waters to see
how many people would be interested in a Wheel of
Time Campaign run by yours truly. It would likely take
place one night during the week although it depends on
when the interested parties would be available. So
since there's been some interest, here's my official
request for who would be interested in playing and when
would they be available 8^)
If everyone interested in CoC call email me what
days would be good when we start this, that would
help...also, I'd like to start finalizing characters to give
me more time to plan the first scenario (since I
think this VtM chronicle will be wrapping up within a
few weeks...maybe sooner, if we can get people in on
multiple sessions per week, which would be preferable for
this chapter. Not good to draw it out and all.
=))<br><br>Alternatively, if people want to stick with just the one VtM
session, I wouldn't be adverse to starting CoC earlier if
there was another time people could do it. This would
be after the characters are finished, of
course.<br><br>If Friday isn't working out for D&D, until SW
starts, should we move VtM there? It would give more time
per session. Entirely up to you all, of course. =)
Why doesn't anyone interested in CoC show up
tonight (on Clipsey's server, normal Charon time). We can
work on character creation, then run through a
simulation so you can get a feel for the mechanics and the
setting.<br><br>Then, tomorrow, let's meet at the normal time for VtM,
and play through Charon time (since the session is
canceled).
And Clipsey's server is still down, don't ICQ me to let me know what the new
server is (I'm at work, not at home).<br><br>Post here or directly email me.
Either would work fine...
Well I've picked up the soucebook and there will
be a WoT game in the near future for all those that
are interested. You can begin working on ideas for
characters or working on characters themselves. For
characters I will be doing the attribute rolls for everyone.
Also there will be some additions to the book for
character creation, such as taking an 18 for an attribute
or taking some other benefit instead. More
information should be coming forthwith once I finish reading
the rest of the sourcebook myself 8^). I have already
heard from a number of members about the character's
they're interested in playing. If you have an idea of
what you'd like to play let me know, as it will help
me to involve them all in the campaign I am working
on. One last point, if any of you know of any other
non-Charon members who would be interested in playing, they
are more than welcome to get in touch with me.
Ok, an update on all of that WoT goodness
8^).<br><br>The time period for the game will start a some time
shortly before the novels.<br><br>For characters, here
goes:<br>Players can take one of the following bonus options,
subject to approval of course:<br>-swap lowest roll for
an 18<br>-add +2 to an attribute of their
choice<br>-take two feats for a lost talent (to be recieved at a
later date)<br>-take a single background feat and 4
points in a background skill<br>-take one special
item/weapon (subject to approval)<br><br>As well each
character can take 4 free skill points for an individual
trade/profession before adventuring.<br><br>Now for house
rules/changes that will be used:<br>-Aiel buckler will stack
with their defense<br>-Certain feats and prestige
classes may be taken from Sword & Fist or other D&D class
books (subject to GM approval and modification, and
depending on how well they fit into the world, cavalier
would be a good example of one).<br>-blademaster
prestige class will be redone, and there will be a new
knowledge skill (swordforms)->more info to come if
interested, warder prestige class will also recieve
swordforms as a class skill<br>-Aiel spear will be a martial
melee weapon, cannot be set against charges due to its
small size (longsword size), and do 1d6 (19-20x3)
damage<br>-heavy crossbow will do 1d12 damage, (18-20 x2)<br>-two
rivers longbow 1d10 (x3) and mighty bows of this type
will be available<br>-1/2 of armour bonus will apply
to defense bonus (rounded down) for armour if
trained to wear type of armour, full armour bonus for
armsman once they receive that feat.<br>-starting
money/equip will be as in the book<br><br><br>Any comments or
suggestions (even if I'm totally coming out of left field
with this in your opinion) on these changes, just send
them my way.
First off, sorry this is such a late reply -- i
completely forgot to check the message board. :)<br><br>I am
much more able to make Fridays than Saturdays, as far
as sessions go, as Saturday is about the only time
I'm able to see my g/f. I will make an extra effort
to have better Friday attendance,
though.<br><br>Regarding Star Wars . . . The only reason I have favored
the 3E system in the past was that it was the only
one I have a sourcebookfor. ;) The wealth of info on
starships and custom weapons/races/etc tends to point
(weakly IMHO) towards a favoring of WEG, but most
importantly, the conversion process is a pain in the neck
(from what I briefly looked at). Most players (myself
excluded) have very highly experienced characters, and
conversion could lead to losing key aspects of their
character development... Maybe I'll just have to go buy the
2E sourcebook ;-)<br><br>More on SW ... I really
like the idea of continuing the Yeslan adventure -- we
were left with one HECK of cliffhanger, and I think
everyone's wondering what's going to happen. That said, I
think I would like to shelve my previous character
(Sorsha Blac) for use either as an NPC, fire-bait, or a
character someone else could take over perhaps, and move on
to a new character. (The novelty of playing a female
charcter wore off quickly, among other reasons
;))<br><br>-- Eclipse
Well ain't that a pickle. For me unfortunatly,
it's Friday nights that are going to be a problem.
Over the summer, here at 8th & I, we have parades
every Tuesday and Friday night. And as of right now I
don't know what time I'll be getting back from them,
and all I know is that they start at 8pm EST.
Bad news, Charon folk. My computer has taken a
nose-dive, and I can't boot into linux at all (and ony into
windows via some magic). I may not have a working IRC
server by this Friday, so we may have to depend on
Urza's server.<br><br>I will be downloading some CD
images today while I'm at work, and seeing if those will
help fix the problems. I will post if there are any
changes.
That's right!!!<br>The date for the Star Wars
"scary" adventure has finally been set and that date is
Feb. 23.<br>If you have any last minute "polishing"
you wish done to your character before than, I
suggest you step on it :)<br><br>On the 23rd we will
return to Charon's origin by again holding a SW
session.<br><br>I hope to see you ALL there.<br><br>Chaser
I am alive. Once again, sorry about not being
around. But I've been busy. I seriously do plan to attend
the sessions now but I have a couple quick questions
-- Are these using the 3E rules? And, are we using
new characters or the old ones? 'cause if we're using
the old ones I'll need to hunt to find my guy :P
For the record, my system IS back up. :) It was
through no fault of the sytem itself, but because I did
something stupid. =-) After the installation (which I had
to do twice due to MORE silliness on my part), the
IRC server took about 2 minutes to get up, installed,
and running. I've even checked =). Address is
63.201.206.58 (or clipsey.dyndns.org).<br><br>I won't be there
this weekend (sorry, can't pass up the chance to watch
girls belly dance ;)), but the machine is back
up.<br><br>For the morbidly curious, that are asking "what did
he do?", I tried to upgrade from redhat 7.1 to 7.2
using a Crazy Method of doing it (eg, not the way one
is *supposed* to do it)... and forgot to do
something to keep from getting everything messed up. So I
downloaded the new ISOs, and installed with those, and
everything went smoothly.<br><br>Additionally, I'm now using
the ext3 filesystem, which recovers from crashes much
more easily, so it won't take as long to boot in the
future. ;)<br><br>The short version: It wasn't the OS, it
was the user. ;-)
