Hi Chris,

Those are some good choices, particularly the Rise of
the Roman Republic. I also have the Carthage game
which I have heard takes care of many of the original
rules problem. Maybe the standard rules are
downloadable as living rules.

Right now I'm not sure what I am doing on Friday at
the moment.

I would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2006!

I am wondering what games people are up for this Friday. On the
lighter side, I'd be up for a game of Attack! or Twilight Imperium
III.  For more serious games, I am wondering if anyone still plays any
of the old Gamers Tactical Combat series or Civil War Brigade series.
I am thinking that there'd probably be time to play a smaller
scenario.  I also finally clipped my counters for Rise of the Roman
Republic (2 years after release) and would be up for that but haven't
got the rules 100% down, so I'd probably need to find someone who's
played it before.

Of course I am also open to any other suggestions. It would be nice to
line something up in advance so that those involved can get a rules
refresher prior to the game.

I missed the last meeting, but I'm going to try to make it to the
next.  Look forward to much wargaming in the future!

As many of you know we arrived on Friday evening and we couldn't get
in. The contractor for them changed the side door we use and never
gave the key to even the chief... So we were locked out. Had a nice
turn out and few folks showed up who I haven't seen in years,
particularly Norm and Norm. We ended up leaving early.

I spoke to the fire superintendent on Monday and he'll give me the
keys for the door on Friday January 6th- so we are back in!

Rich and I wound up tying for the lead in the AGoT game but Ken and
Asa were both extremely close as well.  I'd love to try it with 5 or
6 and the expansion rules some time.

Hi Victor,

Thanks for the follow up on the game. I think it's pretty good. I kind
of suspected how Adam would respond. Pacific wargames are devilishly
difficult to figure what to do in terms of the game system. It's hard
to translate what you have in mind and transfer that into a plan and
strategy on the game table.

Once the Japanese start to have reduced resources the American will
have freer reign, followed by more forces, I can forsee the Japanese
having a tough time of it. I understand playing the American at Pearl
your focus is trying to salvage something of your fleet. I kind of
feel that it is a throwaway fleet which will be replaced by one more
capable.

I definately want to play Fire in the Sky more- I think it could- with
some experience be a great game for the club environment.

As noted Mark and I played a short couple of turns of MMP's Fire in
the Sky at the last gathering of game fanatics.  Mark wiped out the
American Fleet at Pearl - although the loses being all the
Battleships only one was actually sunk, the rest returning from
damage over the next 6 turns.  Then the Japs wipped out the British
Fleet in Singapore - these were sunk to the bottom of the bay.
Onward to the Phillipines where the American Army held out for two
turns before marching off to the death camps.  The second combat is
where we ran into some rules confusion.  That being what happens to
Air Points that are lost to AA fire.  The Americans fired four AA
factors scoring 3 hits on the Imperial Japanese Airforce!  Then we
wondered if the air units suffered step loses - the rules not being
clear about when air points are actually eliminated (considering
each one lost also takes a Jap Merchantan with it) damned important
the rules be known aye...  I posted on Consimworld and the man
himself Adam Starkweather responded as follows:

So there it is - Air Points are quite versatile in this game.

This is a really neat and deceptively complicated game.  Rather than
the 1000+ counters and half a dozen maps of War in the Pacific or
even VG's Pacific War this one mapper with a hundred counters
presents an accurate simulation of the Pacific War that can be
played in 6 hours or so.

I look forward to playing this artful game again and hope to master
its complex system.

I think that maybe bring something along with you-
nothing really that big- so we all can have say chips,
cookies or salsa or whatever... bring what you want.

The Central Connecticut War Wargaming Association meets every first
and Third Friday every Month at the Windsor Volunteers Firehouse
(Reserve) on Rte 159 in the Wilson Section of Windsor, CT. Meetings
begin at 6:30 PM. We play all kind of wargames and games. This is the
playtesting home of Compass Games as well.

Driving Directions to the Central Connecticut Wargaming Association:

From points North of Hartford:

I-91 SOUTH toward HARTFORD
Take exit #35B toward BLOOMFIELD/WINDSOR - go 0.3 mi
Turn Left on CT-218 - go 0.5 mi
Turn Right on WINDSOR AVE[CT-159]
This is a divided road, the fire house will be on the left approx 1
mi. If you go under the next I-91 underpass and arrive in Hartford,
turn around and head back on Rte 159 North.

From points South of Hartford:

I-91 NORTH toward SPRINGFIELD/HARTFORD
Take exit #34/CT-159 toward WINDSOR AVE - go 0.3 mi
Turn Left on MEADOW RD - go 0.1 mi
Turn Right on WINDSOR AVE [CT-159] toward WINDSOR/WILSON

Firehouse will be on your right approx 0.2 mi on right.

The firehouse is a two story brick structure. Please part on the North
side of the building parking lot. The entrance is next to the two side
truck bays. Take a right go down the stairs and through the door into
the meeting room.
