My wife, who works at the local hospital and I, working in risk mgmt, have found
many people mis-informed or not fully aware of seriousness of this flu season.

Over the coming days, I'll post information from the research I've done or she
has about the H1N1 influenza virus. I'd been planning to do a post on this, but
put it off. As it has now hit close to home twice, I'm not going to waste time
making it pretty, but get at least some information to you now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\
--

Yesterday, the US Centers for Disease & Prevention (CDC) acknowledged
underreporting (for understandable reasons) and tripled or in some cases
quadrupled its numbers for the period before mid-October. See media briefing
http://www.cdc.gov/media/transcripts/2009/t091112.htm

Some Quick Points of Information:
A person can have the flu from about 4-7 days on average before experiencing
symptoms. And, yet during this period that person can transmit it to others. So,
practicing preventive measures all the time is important.

Q. How long can influenza virus remain viable on objects (such as books and
doorknobs)?
A. Studies have shown that influenza virus can survive on environmental surfaces
and can infect a person for 2 to 8 hours after being deposited on the surface.

Many people born before 1950, came in contact with a similar strain of H1N1 and
developed immunity. One reason why most of the infections are among young
people.

Prevention
* Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not
available, use an alcohol-based hand rub. (Scientists think 80% of the
contamination occurs by hand contact).
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
--Cover your sneezes with a tissue and throw away or into the inside of your
elbow
-- Large social gatherings, bring a pocket sized hand sanitizer. (BTW, soap and
water is better).

Official Source of Information
For you official source of information on this topic, I recommend the CDC.
General / Sections
http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/general_info.htm
Questions and Answers
http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/qa.html

Note: Some of the CDC's video's are from the spring time and some of the
information within is out of date, i.e. they seem to discount the threat
discussing the low number of infections. Well, things have greatly changed since
then.

* If you have diabetes or other underlying health conditions, you'll need to
gain a better understanding of your unique needs.

Wow, been way to busy and just realized I did not even mention that the complete
stats are on our site. A big thanks to Denis Giguerre for all his work which was
done real fast after the event but stupid me forgot to mention it!!!!

http://www.mtlcoleco.hockeysurtablequebec.com/

There you will see that "The Phenomen" (Patrick Cote) gave me a correction 11-2
in the 2nd round robin! Its a good thing Burt "The Flying Frenchman" took him
out in the play-offs cause Pat was on a mission to take me out. :-)

It was nice to see again all our Ontario friends plus Doctor Lou and hopefully
we will have the chance to see them again plus a few American friends we havn't
seen in a little while in Sherbrook on Nov 14th.

A big thanks to everyone and please let Steve or Martin know you are coming. The
boys again out did themselves in these hard economic times with a 25$ entry
price, at a great location and including food!
I mean what else do you want, us to come pick you up. lol

Lets go, table hockey at all competition levels, what u waiten 4?

Reading Carlo's last call for his tournament tomorrow, I thought to take a few
minutes to write all of you, as follows:

As we stand at the précipice of a new table hockey season, I wish all of you the
very best.

That you have fun, are happy with your performances, renew old and make new
friendships.

That those who take up managing leagues and tournaments in Ontario, Quebec,
Edmonton, Vancouver and in the USA meet or exceed their goals and expectations.

I won't be with you the first half of the season and maybe not all season. But,
I'll be checking in from time to time. I intend to be back in 2010-11. I wish
all of you the very best.

As I wrote this, thinking of you, who won't be with you this year, those who
will join for the first time and that this is the start of a new season, I
thought maybe a prayer, a non-demoninational prayer might be nice.

Table Hockey Prayer
We pray for our table hockey players...
Who, through table hockey, develop important values such as loyalty,
perserverence, friendship and sharing. That every player finds and reaches the
abilities already within.

We pray for event and league managers and promoters...
To demonstrate their appreciation to every participant who lends support to
leagues and events.
To keep the experience of all participants and respect for the game of table
hockey paramount.
Who appreciate the gifts of all players most or least skilled.

We pray for the parents...
Who love their children for who they are, how well they perform at their skill
level, not how high they finish.
Who encourage and teach sportsmanship and comraderie
who encourage and promote graciousness in defeat and humbleness in victory

We pray for the officials...
Who inspire fair play and protect the integrity of the game and players.

We pray for all who participate in games: may their minds remember the element
of fun reflective of your Spirit; may their bodies reflect the gracefulness and
wonder of your creation. Let all who play table hockey be enriched by your
presence and fellowship of man on the boards, at events or in communication. May
you watch over the safety of everyone as they travel to and from our events.

Hey Guys, hope all is well with you!

Listen, I am refurbishing an old metal munro game, and on the stand I want to put stickers of some of the great table hockey leagues throughout North America. Some leagues like Carlo's league in Montreal, the Sherbrooke League, the Munro League in British Columbia, and of course the leagues in Vancouver and Victoria, and AJ's Socal league, are some of the great leagues I'm talking about.

HSTQ is another great tournament circuit.

So if you would like to help me out, please send your logo to me at colecojohnny@ yahoo.com please send it JPEG and if could crop it into a circle, it would be very helpful. I'd like to educate some of the players here in NYC about all the great leagues going on.

Thanks a lot boys!

Hope everyone is having a nice summer . . . bad riptides out here in Breezy
Point this past weekend so we decided to come in and play some classic benej . .Unfortunately, we need a couple of replacement springs--can anyone out there  sell a pair to a couple of fellow table hockey players????

Rick is real busy with his new game--we wish him well--so he is no longer an option. This game we have is useless without the proper springs, and folks who know me know how much I love to play on the Classic Benej.

So if you can help me out--I will send you a quick payment for any parts you may have--it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time and all the best,
John

Over the last few years the emergences of drugs have come to the forfront of table hockey...

Now before you go Huh?

I want to explain myself.

First what ever happenned to playing with the God given talents that we possess as table hockey players?

I have noticed in recent tournaments (within the last 2 yrs) the use of the drug Caffine in so called "Energy" drinks. But what people do or don't know is these drinks are a form of "Performance Enhancing Drugs".
If a rower in the oylimpics can be sacked for taking a antihistimine why then do we allow Caffine(drug stimulant) in the table hockey tournaments?
You can say that it's ok. But for people like myself who can't have caffine for health reasons, Drastically puts me and others like me at a disadvantage in the late stages of a tournament.

I have witnessed the use of these so called "Energy" drinks in use and I have seen the side effects of such drinks.

My concern is that there is no limit to ones use of such a drug. Caffine is a powerfull stimulant that will give you a rush and then a crash and I liken it to cocaine and Crack. Both drugs give you a high but in order to avoid the crash you must keep taking it to maintain the high. But when you crash you really crash. Also the more you useit the more you need to maintain the level of "high" that you had previously.

Now, I know I'm stepping on eggshells by posting this article, But as a concerned person I really think this issue needs some discussion before it gets out of hand.

Drugs are drugs no matter how you look at it. There are other ways to boost your energy without Caffine(Drug).

Just my observation, I now leave it up to you guys to respond.

Super Dave

Here's my view: Drugs have no place in table hockey and that includes all the
illegals and many "semi-legals" like prescription amphetamines, etc. OK, that
is the obvious part. Caffeine goes both ways but you present your point well.
But caffeine is in Colas, chocolate, and coffee so how do you regulate that? Is
expresso banned under your regime, but regular is not? Do you allow
"conventional" sodas including Mountain Dew (higher in Caffeine) - you have to
because they are too commonly used. Some folks will say "well, sugar can be an
artificial rush - how about high-sugar foods?" That is an exaggeration but
needs to be considered. So I offer that the high-caffeine energy drinks be
banned, if not completely, at least during the playoff rounds. As time passes,
this ban might include high-caffeine chewing gum or any similar product that may
be "approved for consumption". In Ice Hockey, a team can wear out by the third
period and blow a lead to lose - that's the nature of the game. We play Table
Hockey because of its fantastic similarity to the real game. I am with you,
Dave.

The 2009-10 table hockey season is quickly approaching.

To help everyone with scheduling tournaments or league playoffs or travel plans,
WE NEED YOUR INPUT NOW.

Please post here or contact me privately (sabre_in_virginia@ YAHOO) you will
have your table hockey tournament or league playoffs.

I'll then put your information into the "Guide to All Annual Table Hockey

New this year!
League dates and playoffs.
Most importantly are the playoffs. In the past some leagues have said if they
knew when a tournament was ahead of posting their league schedule they could
have avoided having playoffs the same day as a tournament (and vice versa for

Here's the link to all known table hockey tournaments for last year. Many are
annual and most of those are held about the same time each year. Contact
information is also provided so you can contact organizers directly.

There you'll find:
"A Guide to All Annual Table Hockey Tournaments in North America." It includes
tournament dates, tournament names, location, board type, number of participants
in previous years, tournament organizer's name, email and/or telephone number,
and tournament website addresses. It will also tally up the number of
tournaments each current and previous year by geography and board type, along
with any other relevant information.

IF IT IS EASIER FOR YOU, YOU CAN POST YOUR DATES HERE AND I WILL INPUT YOUR
DATA. BUT FIRST READ THE SPREADSHEET TO SEE WHAT INFORMATION WE NEED.

Hey gang as always we had our annuelle HTQ meeting in Drummondville. Our new
commity consists of Burt B, Steve G, Dany L and Carlo B and Denis G taking care
of our web page. This season will see some little rule changes as well as a
little format change and some little additions in the hopes of making our events
more fun and more attractable for new comers as well as season veterans.

Already I can announce that regretable Eric Desjardins and myself came to the
conclussion that due to the lack of interest from players in Gatineau it was
best we dropped them from the 2009/10 schedual. We will always remember their
first event which saw the storm of the century hit us yet still having 26 in the
house, these memories will be remembered by everyone in attendance for sure.
Hopefully some Coleco interest can brew from Gatineau in the futur and who
knows, maybe bee put back on the circuit in the futur?

For the rest, I will send everyone an e-mail in the near futur when everything
is updated on our web page: www.hockeysurtablequebec.com

I really hope to see many of our US friends as well as our Canadian friends
attend in big numbers and encourage your TH buddies to make the trip along with
you. John, maybe send this mail to your TH buddies who's e-mail's I do not have?
Dave, you can do the same in the Ontaro regions? Thanks boys.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to e-mail me.

Have a great end to your summer.
