Hi everyone,

Daniel and I finally got the first installment up for our website. This is only
the start to what will, hopefully, soon be an extensive resource about solving
using the BH blindfold method.

Enjoy!

Subject: Pochmann- Corners First?

I have been trying to lean the Pochmann method, and It is progressing
pretty well. I can memorize the edge cycle in about 2 minutes, and
remember it for hours. My only problem is the corner cycle. I have
tried several different memory methods, and none of them stick wit me
for more than about a minute.

So, to accomodate how my memory works, I thought to reverse the order.
Do corners first, and then edges. Since the two are virtually
independent of each other, it should work. I am away from home right
now, and don't have a cube to work with, so it is just a theory right
now. Does anyone know of any problems that can arise by doing it this
way?

The only one I can possibly think of is getting an odd number of
corner transpos. I would then have to adjust the UB and UL pieces
back to their original places. That can be easily fixed with his idea
of a T permutation followed by a 3-edge cycle. However, that then
switches the UBR and UFR corners. Do the edge and corner cycles
always come in even/even or odd/odd pairs?

Sorry for the rambling, just trying to figure this out. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys,
I wonder how do you remember the corners and edges who are twisted
(speeking about M2, or Old Pochmann). It has always happened to me
to end the solve and have compleatly forgotten about the twisted
pieces.
I have now found a solution who looks pretty nice or the corners:

I memorize them and the end of my memorization journey. Using Dominic
System I have added an action for each of the following algs:

(R U R2' U') (R2 U' R' U)(R U R' U') (R2 U') (R2 U R2)

(R' U R2' U') (R2 U' R' U)(R U R' U') (R2 U' R2 U)

(R U R' U) (R U2) (R U2' R' U') (R U' R' U2) (R' U2)

U2 (R U2) (R U R' U)(R U2' R' U2) (R' U' R U' R')

U (R U' R' U) (R U' R') L' (R U R' U') (R U R' U') L

(R U R' U') (R U R' U') L' U (R U' R' U) (R U' R') L

They rapresent each possible combination of corner twist, so that I
never have to use setup moves.

As said, each alg rapresent an action. Just an action, not a person
too.

When I'm at the end of my memorization journey I memorize one of the
person, who rapresent the twisted corner, who do the action that
rapresent the alg.

I alway keep that person at DFR or if necessary at LUF.

Hope that makes sense.

For Edges I memorize them in special location, if needed.

That way of dealing seems good, but I would like to know what system
do you use.

Best Regards,

Federico Soldati

Just memorizing a letters (or numbers) sequence is difficult.

Here is a system that works and that doesnt take long time to develop
(I got it from Stefan Pochmann's web site http://www.stefan-
pochmann.de/spocc/blindsolving/M2R2/):

Allocate a person to each sticker. Then allocate an action to each
sticker. You will have some work to do for that, as there are 48
stickers.

Once your system is ready, memorize the cube using it. Memorize each
cycle two stickers at a time, combining the person and the action
(ex: "Batman" - " playing guitar") in order to do a meaningful image. I
suppose you already know what a "buffer piece" is. So start building
your image after the buffer. I mean, you skip the buffer and allocate a
person to the next piece of the cycle, then an action to the other one
(this build a meaningful image) and so on until the end of the cycle.
This way (because you use M2), you restore the M slice after solving
each image (two pieces), making its follow up more easy. You may need
to start a new cycle, just start from where you want, making sure to
memorize something special between two cycle for safety. If you finish
a cycle with a person, but no more piece for an action, it is a parity.
In that case, I recommend to have a special action for that.

Some example of person/action I have for some sticker:
Tiger Wood/Swinging a golf ball
Eric(my roomate)/Playing guitar
(my girlfriend)/Solving a rubik's cube.

So a 7 pieces cycle may look like:
(buffer piece +) Eric swinging a golf ball + Tiger solving a cube + My
girlfriend playing guitar.

Hopefully you understand, as english is not my first language.

EDITORIAL
Worst student suicide rate yet
The National Police Agency says that suicides in Japan topped 30,000
for the ninth consecutive year in 2006. While the total number,
32,155, was down 1.2 percent from 2005, the number of suicides
among students, 886 — up 25 (2.9 percent) from 2005 — was the worst
since 1978 when the NPA started compiling statistics.

The number of elementary school students who killed themselves
doubled from seven to 14. The respective figures for middle and
senior high school students increased by 15 (22.7 percent) to 81 and
by five (2.3 percent) to 220.

In their suicide notes, 91 mentioned problems at school, an increase
of 28.2 percent from 2005
— the largest number since 1998 when the survey of this category
began. With or without suicide notes, police attributed school-
related problems to 242 suicides, nine more than in 2005. For many
children, school has become a hard place in which to survive.

Some students apparently feel pressure because of poor performance
records. Bullying, too, must be a big factor. A series of student
suicides followed the announcement by the Takigawa, Hokkaido,
Board of Education in October 2006 that the death of a sixth-grade
girl in January 2006 was the result of her suicide attempt in 2005
over a bullying problem.

The government's recently adopted guidelines for suicide prevention
correctly state that any suicide is not the result of a free decision
by an individual, but instead reflects feelings of being cornered by
various problems. They call for
preventive education of both children and teachers as well as
improvement of school counseling services. Still, it would be more
important to build an overall environment at school that does not
induce suicide. The guidelines appear short on
this count. Educators and local governments must consider long-term
efforts.

The suicide rate in Japan is the second worst among the Group of
Eight nations after Russia.

The guidelines spell out a variety of measures aimed at reducing the
rate by 20 percent by 2016 from the 24.2 per 100,000 people in 2005.
Close cooperation among local governments, enterprises and
communities is essential.

hi,
I am also in the learning stage of 3x3 blindfold cubing.. I have been practicing for the past 3 months.. and my best time is 7 mins (3:30 for memorization & 3:30 for solving). My average is of 9 mins (4- 5 mins for memorization and 4 mins to solving). I am also using the same algorithm (from cubefreak.net) which is used by you.

As far as I observed, on an average it will take same time for solving in blindfold cubing..
It's the matter of memorization. Till now I am not using any memorization methods but I am remembering the no's itself or some times the path of the cycle I have to do. And at the beginning, especially for edge permutation remember some setup moves while memorizing..this will help alot in recalling while solving.. and your solving time will be drastically improved. For the Orientations of Edges and corners remember only the setup moves not the no's. Just use finger tricks for solving the cube and apply the algorithms as fast as you can. and after that.. you can slowly unmove the setup moves..

I thope it will help you.. happy cubing..

sgsvnit <sgsvnit@...> wrote:
I can solve the 3x3x3 blindfolded but it takes me about 30 minutes (15
memorization + 15 solving) to solve it. Please suggest me a method by

of cycle time it becomes embarrassing (and boring too!) to demonstrate
someone the skill involved in blindfold solving.

Presently I use the method posted on the site cubefreak.net 3x3x3
blindfold 3 cycle method. It is pretty good but i need to increase my
total speed dramatically (at the cost of extra memorization if necessary).

Well, google is always the place to start, however, I'll help you out
a bit.

If you already can solve a rubik's cube using fridrich's method, I'd
recommend two sites for the same method, Stefan Pochmann's method.

http://www.stefan-pochmann.de/spocc/blindsolving/3x3/old.php
http://solvethecube.110mb.com/index.php?location=blindfold

There is another method out there which I am not familiar with; I am
sure others can help you out with it.

It WILL take a bunch of time to understand and get the method down,
but I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor.

like what methods to use. Can anybody tell me what is the easiest
method to learn and the website for it because I really want to learn
but cant find good tutorials out there for it.

I can solve the 3x3x3 blindfolded but it takes me about 30 minutes (15
memorization + 15 solving) to solve it. Please suggest me a method by
which i can significantly increase my solving speed. With 30 minutes
of cycle time it becomes embarrassing (and boring too!) to demonstrate
someone the skill involved in blindfold solving.

Presently I use the method posted on the site cubefreak.net 3x3x3
blindfold 3 cycle method. It is pretty good but i need to increase my
total speed dramatically (at the cost of extra memorization if necessary).

Yea, it is the wrong fourm. You want the "speedsolvingrubikscube" group.

My website, www.rubikscubegeek.co.nr , has an easy-to-follow solution
that can get you decent times for a beginner.

This forum is for Blindfolded Rubik's Cube solving. The right place
to go for a beginner is probably:

You may find what you need in a thread there, and if you don't, there
are many experienced people there that can help you.

ok, hello im new to cubing and need some help. i can get the first
face all white but when this happens the first layer isnt done like
its supposed to. just wondering what im doing wrong and how i can get
the first face and layer done so i can start with the second and third
layer.

Im only using two algorithims:

Right inverted, Down inverted, Right, Down

and

Front inverted, Under, Left inverted, Under inverted

That one I'd do M R B (cycle) B' R' M'

I use algorithms like M' U M U2 M' U M
Tyson told me that one (but on the R face)

what do you mean by "figure it out on your own"? the method?
I thought it could be better to "skip" the edge orientation part, so...

I think I see what you mean now. Do you know any other cycle

Where did you learn this from, or did you just figure it out on your own?
