We need to address the issue of a web master for our Bayou Wars page. Ms.
Cynthia is not able to help us right now as she busy with a new schedule. We
appreciate all the help she has given us in the past. We need to pay a webmaster
so that when we call in an update it gets posted in a timely manner. Browbeating
a friend to edit in their spare time is not working. We have a set date, a guest
speaker, and game commitments that need to be posted. Some of this info is two
months old. I picked up about seven names and numbers around the country last
year at various conventions. Games, Speakers, and Dealers. All were willing to
come to Bayou Wars on the condition that they were notified in time to make long
distance plans.

Great idea, I wish I knew some nerd that would be willing to do this.

Looking for some nerd is the same as browbeating a friend. We need to pay a
legitimate Webmaster.

For what it's worth (a great song title)

Part of this discussion I believe is partially my fault. The other day I
informed Hilton and Chris that I would no longer be the gaming director. My
decision was based on the several issues. First, and foremost, I do not have
the time. I use to teach 5 classes for $x amount of money and now I am
teaching 7 classes for the same amount of money. Times are tough for a lot
of us. I volunteered my services after Katrina when Bayou Wars was moved to
Vicksburg. I got far more credit for that convention than was due. Many
members of the Jackson Wargamers (Larry Reeves and Jim Pitts just to mention
two) worked hard to pull that convention together and are stalwart
supporters of Bayou Wars.

Cynthia has handled the webpage since that convention and has done an
unbelievable job. However, she like many associated with Bayou Wars are
volunteers and as volunteers we do not expect any monetary consideration.
But, a time comes when the real world interferes with our hobby and we
cannot commit that time.

There is a need for a web master but I do not believe that we need to hire a
professional. I believe that there is someone within our group that has the
talent and time to develop and maintain a website for perhaps a low fixed
dollar amount.

Do not miss understand me, updates are crucial. We do have a guest of honor
and we do have the opportunity to attract knew vendors and game masters to
Bayou Wars and we need to get that information out to the gaming community.

So the question I am going to ask you is simple. What are you willing to do?
Do you want Bayou Wars to remain a small family/local convention or do you
want it to expand?

There is no simple answer.

If you want Bayou Wars to expand than you must ask yourself what you are not
only willing to do but also commit to doing.

Please believe me, I am not talking about those who regularly run games; but
instead those individuals who tell someone what we need to be doing or how
it could be done better.

If you have a suggestion, then step up, we need your help!

J. Switzer

Here's a suggestion. How about a blog? Just put a link to the blog on the
Bayou Wars site, and update the blog to get things rolling. Jim Pitts assures
me that you need no computer to do a blog, and his are very nice.

John, of course got it right. We always need help and it is always the same
individuals who step up time and time again to help. There are many who
benefit from Bayou wars and if we can get just a few extra helpers, everyone
would benefit and nobody will burn out from having to do too much.
Thanks

There is a old member of the Jackson group who is retired and has very good
computer skills. We can ask him if he would be willing to volunteer. He has
not game in a while but I still get emails from him every once in a while. His
name is Rick Parks. He might even be a member of this board. Not for sure? I
don't know if he would do it but it can never hurt to ask. The worst he could
do is say no.

Can I suggest something else? Not to take the place of the website, but to
augment it. Mobicon has a great Facebook page. They have plenty of members and
regularly send out updates on what is going on. I know that this will not solve
the website issue, but it is an easy way to get the info out.

The first of many game days was a smashing success. We had 15 people and Lee
Miller show up. We played three different games ate a bunch of junk food and
then retired to the lobby to make fun of Chris and Hilton. Next game day will be
on 12 Dec. Same time same station. Come join us, we have plenty of lawyer jokes
left and don't mind hearing the old ones over again.

Special thanks to Hilton McManus for making the last minute drive up and keeping
the last round interesting. Sorry for William Jones who was laid low before
round 1 with a food allergy and could not play. Hope you are feeling better.
Big thank you to Paul Woolerton who made the drive down from Manassas, VA. I
hope we can return the favor some day soon.

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Big thanks to Derek Downs of NASAMW for the shirts and unpainted lead and to
Baxter Key of Wargames in Nashville for the camps for prizes. We tried to make
sure everyone received something.

To bad the rest of he Bunnies and Atlanta FOG players could no make it.

We had a lot of in-put and even some fee-back and accomplished all our goals.
Except the goal of an updated web-page. Merrely, merrely, merreily, merrely life
is but a dream.

John, if you're willing to send me the login info for the server
(off-list, of course), I can take a look and push updates if I can
figure out how it's set up. I won't be able to do it full-time, but I
can fill in until you guys find someone better suited to the job.
