Thank you for that information Fred Hicks.
It must be some problem with yahoo groups. I managed to get the file size down
to around 500+KB (I had a crazy time just trying to upload that to the group).
When I add new stuff to the file later on I do not know how to keep it under
700KB. I will probably have to take some of the graphics out.
Likely. Thought it was around 1MB, though.

I do not know why I waited so long to buy JotSS. But I finially did and was not
sorry either. I had no desire for the S&S genre but wanted the rules Mr. Gray
had mentioned a few years back with QotMR.
What rules would you use with ZoZ? I know I want the "Monster Size", "Gear
Wealth & Trade" & "Props" rules. What else would you suggest to use with a fairy
tale campaign?

Yeah, a quick and dirty way to implement scale would be to give the bigger thing
+7 to attack, defence, etc. And maybe it automatically beats unimportant
characters.
You might also want to say the smaller thing can only inflict Failure Ranks. If
the smaller thing can do something to get itself on the same scale that'll even
the odds - a dragon-slaying sword?
PS - I did a one or two page mini-article on using super scale in my PDF T&J
supplement 'More Power'. Just to get a plug in!

Interesting. Like, say, for giant-strength compared to human-strength?
IIRC, to bring everything to one chart, Tim Gray had the idea of just adding a
"free" +6 MOD (or was it +7?) to "magic" or "super" scale things.

Hi!
Could you'll tell me how to use T&J Scale rules on page 60 and the T&J intensity
chart for other PDQ games? I was wanting to using it say for different sizes or
strength. Like a large dragon fighting smaller things. Or a capitol starship vs.
a one man fighter. I hope you'll understand what I'm trying to say.
I think perhaps Sean wins this one!

Sounds great, Chad Underkoffler. I do not probably think it would fit
for my play style with ZoZ. However, I have been wanting to do a
pirates game with PDQ called "Pyrates of the Golden Galaxy" (space
genre) which S7S may be very useful for. Do you have a price idea yet?
I was hoping Tim Gray would have chimed in by now. Oh yeah, Tim, is
deity design in the book or just a mention? And does the book go into
detail about making NPCs (monsters)?

Well, S7S isn't published yet, so nothing yet. ;)
S7S will have a different version of the PDQ system optimized for swashbuckling
called PDQ# (or PDQ Sharp!). Flowering from that base, there's a range of
options comparable to some of the rules extensions to PDQ found in T&J --
Dueling rules, ship combat, stuff like that.
I'll let Tim handle the QMR end of the question.

What is in "Questers of the Middle Realms" & "Swashbucklers of the 7

picking up one but I am unsure as to which would be more useful and
allow for more options.

Hi Chris! Thanks for the plugs.
Note that Legends Walk is not a standalone game - well, the original
edition is, but the one you're talking about is a supplement for Truth
& Justice. It is indeed a game of superheroes empoweed by the gods,
heroes and monsters of mythology.
I'll also mention my Jaws of the Six Serpents - a self-contained PDQ
game for the sword and sorcery and darker end(s) of fantasy, due out
this autumn.

It seems to me that since CoC's sanity mechanic is basically a hit
point system, sanity can work the exact same way as combat. Going
crazy can certainly create some interesting story complications

Well, I can answer a couple of these... 2-Yes, you certainly can. 3-Well, that first hit acts as a Plot Device - it generates a dangling plot thread for the GM to hint at and then develop in later games, based on the Quality that was hit. If the Quality was "Husband" something is gong to happen that impinges on the character being a husband - his wife may get a ticket, or win the lottery, or be stalked by The Joker - something relating to that quality that provides the seed of a future game.

There isn't a "generic PDQ" mailing list that I'm aware of. Just the
ones for Truth & Justice and Zorcerer of Zo.
The Truth & Justice group is here:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/truthandjustice/
There's a Ninja Burger forum set up by etherealFORGE. It's here:

You _should_ be able to. The thing is, as the games have come out the
system has kinda evolved. What you see in Zorcerer of Zo is different
than what you've seen in Dead Inside. And since I'm running a playtest
for PDQ's newest iteration, Swashbucklers of the Seven Skies, I can
tell you that the S7S system changes things up a bit more. Right now
I'd say the changes are for the better, and I say that having Zorcerer
of Zo be my "go to" game.
> 3- Can someone explain more on "Story Hooks" on the first "first hit".
I'm not quite sure what you're asking for here. Do you mean you'd like
some examples? Are you asking how to figure out what that Story Hook
might be?
The way I handle Story Hooks, is I simply make note of the Quality
that is generating the Story Hook. Occasionally an immediate idea
might spring up and be possible to use later in the session, but
generally make a note of it and use it for the next session.
As for what actually "makes" a Story Hook, or what should be included?
It might not feel very helpful for me to say this, but I think it's
honestly up to the GM to decide that. If you're not sure how it's
going to be accepted by the player, you can always run it by them
before putting it into play.
As I see it, Story Hooks are usually "punitive". It's not slapping the
player for rolling crappy enough to take damage, or anything like that.
Instead, it's generally a way of helping to spark something else in
the course of the game, and help build a flow of events as the games
progress.
In other words, instead of a GM having to sit there and beat their
head trying to figure out something to do, or just converting a module
from some other system, Story Hooks can be used to help spin-off new
directions in the course of a game.
I run PDQ as a one-on-one game for my wife, so I do have some heavier
lifting to do in terms of coming up with stuff to do. If you've got a
group of people, you should be able to generate story hooks off of at
least one of the people in the group.
I also wouldn't worry too much about having the Story Hook happen
immediately the next session. It's nice to be able to do that, but if
the game doesn't lend itself to that, don't try to force it. Be
willing to let a Story Hook or two wait if need be, and then integrate
them in when you get a chance. You might even be able to tie a couple
of Story Hooks together, but that's so dependent on the game and the
people involved that I don't feel I can offer any real advice on that.

Ummmm... ow.
Your Qualities are acting like Hit Points basically. If you want
things to last longer, simply change the situation under which a
character is taken out. Instead of it happening when the first Quality
hits zero, let the fight/conflict continue. If a quality zeroes out,
you can either have a "negative" Story Hook happen, or simply have a
second Story Hook be generated when the Quality is zeroed out.
If you're looking to add some sort of "sanity" mechanic to PDQ... I'm
not quite sure what to recommend. I personally loathe games like CoC,
and part of the reason for that is the sanity mechanics that are a
part of the game.
It's been quite a while since I've read Dead Inside, but there might
be something in there to lift from. Alternatively, you could always
hijack the Honor mechanic from Ninja Burger and modify that to
function as your Sanity mechanic.
>
> Oh yeah, thanks for allowing me as a member :)

The more the merrier. The PDQ folks tend to be a bit quieter than some
of the other lists out there, but we tend to be a bit more of the
"actually running a game" type, so you can generally get some pretty
good practical advice.
Sidenotes:
Don't forget that there's some other PDQ games besides what you've
mentioned. :)
Legends Walk, and Questers of the Middle Realms. I plan on picking up
Legends Walk next year, but my understanding of it is that it's a
supers game where the characters basically owe their powers to gods
and other bits of mythology. So the characters are sorta almost like
Avatars for a god or something. I'm sure Tim will be along to correct
me on that and explain it properly. :)
Questers of the Middle Realms is a fantasy take on PDQ. It's written
with the assumption of being run in a humorous fashion, but there's
nothing stopping you from running it as a straight-up fantasy
clone/replacement for D&D.
Both Legends Walk and Questers use the "standard" PDQ rules, meaning
that they're more in line with what you see from Truth & Justice,
whereas Zorcerer of Zo is like a slimmed down version of T&J.
The nice thing is, depending on the games you've got, if you're into
tweaking things, you've got a few ways to go. You can start with ZoZ,
and then "add on" little bits here and there if need be.
You can lift ideas from one, and repurpose them to handle other stuff.
For example, there's no sci-fi setting for PDQ. So if you wanted to
run a Firefly game, I'd probably start off with either ZoZ or (once
it's released) the S7S rules. Then I'd look to Questers for some ideas
on handling equipment. If you wanted some really bizzare alien stuff
(more Star Wars than Firefly) then I'd look at Questers for some ideas
on building other races, or possibly T&J for funky powers. T&J would
also work for building giant Deathstar type stuff. I mean, a Deathstar
could be viewed (from one angle) as simply being like a superhero of
ships.
Sorry for the long message, I hope it's not too much of an
"information dump". Welcome to the list and feel free to ask any other
questions you might have.

Hopefully the sheet I uploaded will do the trick for you. I personally
liked having the chart and HP uses included like that, which is why I
went with this one.
The Quality bubbles, HP, and LP don't have any fillable box bits. I
figured they're going to get erased/filled in so often it'd be kinda
pointless.
If you don't have a full version of Acrobat, you can't normally save a
fillable/form like this.
However, if you're using a Windows machine, go download Foxit PDF
Reader. It's free, and a darn solid product. Only problem it has is
with pdfs that use layers (MadIrishman's Character sheets, and 0One
maps from rpgnow), but otherwise it's the pdf reader I use. It's
small, and a heck of a lot faster than Acrobat Reader.
Install Foxit, fill in whatever you want and simply save. Or Save As
so you don't lose your original file. :)
Some day I wouldn't mind trying to design a really pretty sheet (John
Harper makes me envious), but for now I'm still working on my graphic
