You know, that's a really good idea. They would need to oppose the much sought
Timmee Russians, tho.  My light gray Mx German unit is now complete and ready
for its baptism of fire. Can't wait to see how they do. The MPC Company is
already engaged against the Mx Brown / 'Dust' Bn of Commies under the command of
COL Erine Barvulov. They are defending / delaying at a village against the Bn
supported by a light (T-60) tank company.

YES, mein Herr,
These 60mm "WoW" G.I.'s from mold #PL-383  are indeed my childhood favorites -
apart from their "Chubby" counterparts...
as seen also at the bottom of Kent's marvelous and, I believe, quite accurate
MARX vinyl GI's page:

Their cool GRAY color would be used by me in a winter "Korean Conflict"

 . . . . I just couldn't sleep; I just have to know!
What treasures await at this toy soldier show?
I've tossed and I've turned - I've fitfully dreamed
OH! how I had planned! Oh! how I had schemed
To make it again to OTSN
To see things not seen since Heaven knows when
With guys who've been on the armymen scene
For most of their lives! Now with wallets to clean
We come to Chicago to be kids once more
Dash down that hallway! - bust through that door!
Yes, now Septembers sure feel like Decembers
Of so long ago - It's the Toy Soldier Show!

They'll move at the same rate as tanks for a max of 4 moves, then horsey gets
pooped. After that, they will move 1.5 times as fast as infantry as long as it's
open terrain. Heavy woods becomes no-go terrain for them. They will still be
able to negotiate slow-go terrain at the same speed as infantry but as you know,
there is no such thing as no-go terrain for infantry. Vehicular no-go terrain
will be no-go for horsies, too. Vehicular slow-go will be go terrain for the
horsies. Infantry slow-go will be slow-go for them as well. Yup, I got it all
thought out.

Have you seen Armies in Plastic's mounted Cossacks?!  Someone has FINALLY done
it!  They are all armed with rifles on their backs, I'll have to do some
conversions to have Ppsh's on the backs of some, but holy crap! It's finally
been done!  I think I'll get 150 of green  and brown. I'll use the charbens
HMG guy as the HMG's for the Bn (put them in Mx recast wagons! And I'll use the
Cherilea mortar guys to provide the indirect fire. This is going to hurt the ol'
bank account some but, I've wanted this for a long time!

BS - That's a US soldier. This pic was circulated years ago. Notice the
stylized A on the PT Shirt. He's in standard issue US Army Summer PT uniform.
The original gave the name of this guy, an E-7 if I remember correctly.  The
weapon is the M-16A2 which was still pretty common issue even amongst some
combat units, the M-4 now being standard issue for combatants now.

Hey gang,
Please  let me know if you can help me on this: I NEED Airfix Russian MG men
(prone firing the Dp-28 LMG). I do not care about the color and even cheap China
copies are acceptable.
I have obsessively started 3 more companies of Marx Russians, all b/c of colors
available (hey, I could have done Bn's for each!) and will use them as motorized
companies, each getting 10 Mx half tracks. The colors are: the original mint
green (you knew it was coming!), a dark forest green that Glenco turned out in
some boxes and I amassed a quantity) and a Glenco reject color in vinyl. It's
sort of looks like the color of a plant denied sun light and very few match with
eachother. It was, according to him, an experiment that didn't work and I got
100 of them from him. They feel like the Auburn guys! It's very interesting!
So, as you know, the Marx Commies do not have LMG guys, which are vital at the
squad level. There would be nine of them in a company, so I'm off on a mission.
I've managed 2 orig gray off of Ebay for dirt cheap and there was an AF Italian
in the lot, too! He alone is worth more than I paid for the lot! Then another 4
orig gray from a friend, which I got by trading the rest of the Ebay lot to him,
then another 2 in a  99 cent Ebay lot (these are HK copies, and decent quality).
I know of where I can get 4 more (M - A -) but I might need to buy the whole lot
of 28 figs to do that. I'm sure I can trade them off for more MG guys.
So, in short, see if you can help me out, please?
 Thanks, and Happy Hunting !

I'm posting this to the Armymen Crew group too, so apologies to those
who are members of both groups.

I'm wondering if any here play pbem games with their figures? And if
so, how?

Games played on grids, whether of squares or hexes, seem reasonably
straightforward. Each location can be numbered in some way, and moves
made by descriptions in an email. Such as:

Knight on A3 moves A4-B4-C4 and attacks D4.

Rolling dice could be a problem, but there are websites which deal
with such.

Or there is Vassal, which would take care of both the moves and the
die throws.

But does anyone do this? I'm not referring to board games with
counters, of the sort for which Vassal was designed. I mean games more
on the order of, for instance, Table Top Troopers and similar 'toy' games.

And what about games where movement is made by measurements in inches
or centimetres, such as Knightly Fightly. Are those played by email,
and if they are, how is it done?

Dear Members,
Just received this and Mark is involved it has to be good.

Mark Zaslavsky, long-time SWA supporter and frequent Council GM, would
like us to know about On Target 2009, a historical miniatures
convention at Fort Dix, NJ, on Feb 20-21, 2009.

From the pre-reg material:

ON TARGET 2009 - A Historical Miniature War Game Officer and NCO
Professional Development Program and Gaming Event

Military leaders for centuries have "war gamed" or analyzed a battle
to determine if they should enter combat. Historians have analyzed
these battles afterwards. Historical war gaming allows you to replay
battles in history, using miniature figurines to determine if the
outcome could have been changed. Rules allow for tactics, logistics,
changes in plans and execution. This event will challenge you and
give you a perspective on the combat you may not have expected. Join
the operations by coming to the War Game Event.

You can download the pre-registration booklet in PDF format by
clicking here.

For more direct information, please contact LTC Mark Zaslavsky at

I have been thinking about some of the brave plastic playset figures
who endured
so much bedroom/backyard hardship and suffering in the defense of
Childhood Freedoms and have decided to enshrine a few of
my "Favorite
Guys" in a new Photos Album: "Playset Veterans".
'
Please add a few of your own to the 'collection"!
'
The only qualification IMHO is that these men must have come from an
actual playset actually fought in
combat, on any battlefield INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, at some point in our
lives and thereby become among our very favorite troops!
'
My first choices are the MARX 45mm G.I."Camp Poses" from my
Christmas, 1957 U.S.
Armed Forces Training Center - in particular the crawling sniper and
the 'hopping guy' with e-tool on his web belt; You'll pick them out
easily! They fought often and valiantly until K.I.A. - M.I.A. in the
early Sixties... I have copies of them all back now, of course!
MARX made them in vinyl in the early fifties, but some wouldn't
stand
properly (allegedly a complaint of President Eisenhower himself!),
and so polyethylene was employed and bases added to the molds.
These small warriors fought hard in support of my hard plastic
REVELL M-
4 Sherman "Black Magic" Tank infantry, which will also be featured
in the
album.
'
Yours in the bonds of our playset wars,

Dear Members,
As you know I seldom get angry about much. There are times that my
anger exceeds even my disappointment with the film Troy. Today I went
to my local Barnes and Noble only to find that they had pulled most of
their bargain book display items of historical, military and ancient
and medieval books.

I ask you to do this if you have time. Visit your local Barnes and
Noble stores and see if this is being done there too. Ok so the
economy is in the tank but it costs nothing to look.

Finally ONLY if you find the same is true e-mail them

customerservice@...

(that costs nothing) and express your disappointment.

Here is what I wrote:
---------
Dear customerservice@...,
I made my usual Sunday morning trip for the paper and a book or two at
your Amherst New york branch store. I was very disappointed to see
that the bargain book section was stripped of almost all of the
general history, military history and ancient & medieval history
selections. As an author and historian I can assure you that I will be
visiting the other local B&N stores in the area and figure out if this
is a store choice or a general marketing approach.

Please tell me this is not your new policy on selections or just very
poor judgement by a store manager.
Sincerely,

-----------

So check out the situation for yourselves before writing anything.
Sincerely,
Phil

Dear Members,
August 30 is the dead line for the PEl and Sept 19 for the program book.

  How to Register Your Events

There are several ways you can register your events for FALL IN!™. The
simplest way, given that you've gotten to this web site in the first
place, is to go to our on-line form and submit your event there:

     Game Master On-line Event Registration

This form is quick and simple to use and our Events Coordinator, has
promised to reply promptly to every on-line event he receives, just to
confirm your registration!

There are also two ways to print a Game Master Event Registration
form, as well:

     * Event Pre-registration Form in Word format
     * Event Pre-registration Form in PDF format
     * IMPORTANT NOTE: If you send the events coordinator an electronic
(i.e., attached to an email) event registration, PLEASE send it in
either Microsoft Word (.doc) or plain text (.txt) format! He is about
to be buried by event registrations and this will make his job MUCH
easier! Of course, files in other formats will be accepted but they'll
get processed after the Word and text files are processed...

Also, when you send in an event registration, please name the file
you send "name#.doc" or "name#.txt", where "name" is the short, pithy,
one-word name for your game and "x" is a numeral. Why a numeral? For
example, if you want to run your game three times at FALL IN!™, you
should send in three event registrations named name1.doc, name2.doc,
and name3.doc. This will allow the events coordinator to sort the many
event registrations he's going to receive MUCH faster and will ensure
that your game gets properly slotted for three (or however many times
you want) time slots!

If you have any questions about running a game at FALL IN!™, PLEASE
contact the Events Coordinator for swift and complete answers... His
ultimate goal is to ensure that you run - and enjoy running - a great
game!!!

Contact e-mail is

events@...

Sincerely,
Phil
