Having finally logged some hours on the P9 I can definitely say it
was a good replacement for the good old G1-10. Wind today maxed out
at 35MPH/38MPH/25MPH with the lightest being 25/30/20 according to
the iwindsurf sessor. I froze my _____ off today. One of those
rare days when the wind speed is higher than the air temp. It was
30F without the windchill. My bar froze and the leader lines were
covered in ice thicker than my fingers. A nice layer of ice on the
wetsuit when I came in. Kind of funny. There was a sand storm on
the beach. Figured I'd try the "new" launch setup that was posted
lately. Ended up chasing the kite down the beach. Back to the
standard launch with a bit of sand on the TE. No launch issues.
Launches better than the G1-10 thanks to the straight TE. Anyway
I'm 165 lbs and was riding the LF drop 130. I had to work the kite
a bit in the lulls to stay upwind. During the gusts I was
comfortably powered with the kite parked. Could have handled a lot
more wind. This kite is really comfy since the power comes on
really smooth. Even in serious wind you can throw the kite around
while carving turns without any chance of getting pulled off your
edge. I haven't had this kite in the waves yet but it will give you
a really nice bottom turn off the lip combo. Rear strap was pulled
in 75%. 100% is my prefered setting on this kite. 45cm bar with
30M lines. Turning is faster than the G1-10 but not too fast. You
do have to keep an eye on this kite like the G1-10. Jumps are like
getting shot out a cannon. Even in the lulls when I had to work the
kite the jumps were fun. If you leave the kite overhead you fall
pretty quick. Keep the kite moving and and you come in smooth and
fast. Messed up a spin really bad and did a full superman to belly
flop from 20 feet up. Had enough time in the air to tell myself,
this is going to hurt. That thick wetsuit must have helped because I
ate it really hard. Think I looped the kite by accident. Sweet
spot for this kite is around 30MPH and topend appears to be
limitless.
