While you are undoging the floor plate over the unit, Kelly is
loading a diagnostic program from the boat's database into memory.

>So what do we find when Kelly and I peel the plates?

Nothing unexpected. The control unit for the CG units can be pulled
up for servicing, and when you do you go to work servicing it.
Kelly uses an electronic probe to download data from the control
unit and runs it through the diagnostic program. While he is doing
that Jaren opens up the unit, unbolting and removing the cover on
the unit. The maintenance record is taped inside the cover.

The diagnostics show that one of the four Balance Modules isn't
working at all and the Main Controller is rapid cycling the other
three Modules trying maintain proper trim. This has probably been
getting worse and worse for some time.

It's a good thing you checked when you did. A second Modules shows
signs of failure and that would have made the boat uncontrollable.

Kuzov chuckles. "Hokay. Strap in, will take cabin gravity offline in two
minutes."

Assuming there's no objections, Kuzov will do so, then open up the floor
panels to get to the ceegees.

Kuzov swears. "Cheretznipoi designed this *BAD*. Will have to shut down
bloody gravity plates to fix." He looks at the schematic. "Could be worse.
Could have ceegees wired into stutterwarp system."

> So, yes, you can open the floor plate, pull the CG controller up and

Kuzov thumbs the intercom. "Need to shut down cabin gravity for one, mebbe two
hours. Also, intertial dampers. Is good idea, will give us more efficient
contragrav if do. *MIGHT* need good working ceegees at S-18. Anyone object?"

OK, since the CG's are offline in stutterwarp mode, is there any chance we can
open them up and rough-tune them? If so, Kuzov's up for it.

Jaren will show Kelly a trick or 3 he picked up in the Marines to get it
*close* to alignment without a scope.

Kuzov hits the intercom. "Da. *THINK* can get it close, but without scope,
cannot get *perfect*. Not need ceegee in microgravity anyways; is why we have
stutterwarp."

Jaren mumbles something unintelligible and heads back to the engineering
space, walking with his hands on the seats just in case cabin gravity fails.
Once back there, he says, "Misalignment, da?" He checks the power gauges and
swears. "Bloody CGs are pulling 20 percent more than should be. Not good.
Not good." He looks around. "Got Number 4 insulated screwdriver handy? Need
to back bias off CGs bit, mebbe 8 percent. Not Ess-Oh-Pee, mebbe, but quick
fix." He holds up a Number 7 and says, "This wrong tool..."

Kuzov says, "Hokay." He picks up his duffel and climbs aboard the Walk to
take the first availiable seat. He pops the screen up on his laptop and
starts playing 3D Flexicop on it.

Kuzov glances up a minute, then closes his eyes to concentrate on listening to
the CGs for any audible problems.

Kuzov frowns. "Was not thinking cit arrest. Was thinking, use new rifle, claim

Kuzov chuckles. "Our gator is good. Not worry, not dent your Weber with
nikulturny rocks." He ducks inside the Walk to confer with whoever's cutting
the course tapes.

Kuzov looks up a crate of something or other. "Da. Bring here. Is manual
for starship, yes?" He takes the clipboard. "Where to thumprint? Ah." He
scrawls his chop on the dotted line. "Bolshoi spacebo. Is on account, yes?"
He glances over the invoice and nods. "Xarosho. Regards to Galbrath and
Combs." He hands the clipboard back and takes the package. "Dasvedanya."
