RE: [Wastelandcommission] Old stuff for new folk

There was some mention of a Conglomeration as well with regards to The Steppes although that description would be close to a Syndicate as well I believe.

Should any wish to learn of Wasteland Lore I would recommend spending time in the company of Malvess or Master Callowfield , their knowledge is extensive in the subject. Indeed Master Callowfield provided some time a go the following list of terms that were know to be used by the Fractured Path .

Kingdom: a Realm with a warden who is aware of his job and actively
performing it.
Duchy: a realm without a warden performing their task -a
warden is present, but they are acting only very passively, and are unaware of
their role.
Commune -a realm with more than one warden.
Principality- a Realm formed from the wasteland by the act
of will of an individual.
Syndicate - a number of Realms so close together one can
step from one to another without crossing the wasteland.
Choke - a Realm in that one must travel through to reach
other Realms -the Valley is a Choke.
Sovereign, the artificial creations made to house the former
rulers or aspirants to the throne of England
Oasis - a Realm maintained by some sort of 'spiritual'
presence, usually one appeased by regular ceremony.
Museum -a realm maintained only by a Realm Artefact.

To this I believe we can add an Archipeligo , i believe the nature of travel within an Archipeligo , willful action or ritual performance of some sort seems to make it sufficiently distinct from a Syndicate to warrant its own category .Indeed to date I believe those Archipeligo's reported have all been different island groupings , the only Syndicate I can think of would be perhaps the collective involving Botany Bay

As for the Cooper effect , a term from early Wasteland travel affectionately given reflecting my own somwhat unfortunate travails , I think it is probably time to see it given a proper medical name perhaps Scribe or Dr Masters could assist. If one wishes to see the final effects of Wasteland Sickness , one could do worse than visit Piers Tolson at St Mary of Bethlehem's hospital . The poor man was one of the early Wastelanders , known to Callowfield , Gwydion and the Spaniard , who appears to have suffered the final effects of Wasteland Sickness , and is a broken man both physically and in the mind . Any visits to St Mary's would be welcome acts of charity if they bring the smallest piece of comfort to the poor souls in residence

So, as we were talkin it turns out some folk in the commission don't know the name o the Cooper effect an that there are Realms, Principalities, an other things out there.

I thought I'd try ta help a little, an then folk who know much better than me can tell us why I'm wrong an what is right.

First off these things were written by Master Faffyn, who worked out a lot o things. They might help too.

So then: Realms an stuff...

What we have in London is a Realm.
It's a place that's never been in the Wasteland.
There's a Realm Warden, a man who is the focus o the Realm.
If a Realm Warden dies then someone else gets the job, if there's someone around who can. The new person's not going ta be as good at the job as the old person, cos it always goes to the best person first. So a Realm Warden dying is a bad thing for the Realm.
If there's no one left who can take over being Warden the Realm falls in to the Wasteland.
A Warden does not have to be a person.
I've seen places where it's a Tree, a Spirit, an Undead thing...

Prinicipalities seem ta be places that have been brought back out o the wasteland by the sheer determination o one person. That person - The Prince - makes a place Real. What is in a Principality is what that person thinks should be there. So it can be made up stuff that the person likes (or, if he's kinda crazy like, scarry things from his nightmares).

Some Realms, an some Principalities, have bits o Wasteland inside o them. Kinda like a land can be all split up by rivers but still be the same place or a bunch o islands can be a kingdom.

Every Wastelander has a place that is their home - we have London.
When they travel through the Wastes something odd happens ta Wastelanders. The longer they are away, and the more they have been away in the past, the worse it gets & the quicker it hits.
If a Wastelander is in a Realm which is a big, open, place that helps, an they suffer less an latter than if they are in a small Realm or one that's all closed in. This weirdness we called the Cooper Effect. It starts off with a Wastelander feeling a bit homesick. Then they get all ill and queesy. This gets worse over time.
We've been told that if allowed to carry on the Wastelander ends up getting sick in the head an goes crazy.

Some folk ha said that in a Principality Wastelanders don't start to feel the Cooper Effect until they get out into the Wasteland.

I think that's kinda it.
