Ever since he realized how little he played Bohnanza last year, and how much
he liked it, Dave F has been pushing Bohnanza at B2O. This week he got his
wish. Not only did he get to play bohnanza, but 10 other people did too.
Two simultaneous games (6 and 5 players). I played in neither of them.
I've stopped keeping track of who shows up B2O, or what everyone was
playing, but I can write a brief report about what I played.
LOTR: Two Towers. Scott attempted to teach Ralph, Matt, Dave and I this new
Knizia game. After Dave, Ralph and I got the hang of it, we taught Matt.
It seems he was too busy trying to find all the Liv Tyler cards to actually
listen to Scott butcher the rules.
The game is a typical Knizia hand management game. Cards have symbols and
colors on them (as well as flavor artwork from the movie). You play
different symbols in different regions to score points. You are limited to
one set of cards from each color, so when to play and what to discard/draw
is where your decisions/choices are. I'd likely play it again given the
chance.
TRIAS - Ralph and I taught Matt, Vitas and Gary. I think Ralph likes it.
He's good at it, either way. The other 3 were very vocal in their
disappointment. I still enjoy it and think that with less players, the
board would change less between turns and provide more control to the
players- the major criticism leveled against being lack of control.
At my request, Wallenstein showed. However English Rules or a player with
more than one playing under their belt did not. Matt and I took a stroll
over to Scholars and Dave let us cruise over to the geek and download the
rules. While they were printing, I played Sales Assistant and talked up
Carcassonne to one of the customers. He had a rather strange look on his
face after Dave pulled a copy of the shelf as a game recommendation. No
idea if he bought it or not.
STEPHENSON'S ROCKET - Matt requested one more meaty game before he left for
the evening. We were joined by rookies, Joe and Carl (or is Karl?). Matt
and I were obviously good teachers becaus they both beat us. Their scores
were 69 and 65 to my 63 and Matt's 50.
SCHNAPCHEN JAGD - Matt having departed, and no sign of other tables breaking
up anytime soon, I taught Joe and Carl this interesting trick taking game.
It took a hand or two for them to get the swing, but they enjoyed it. I
took the win, 11, 8, 5.
LA CITTA - Again no signs of synching up with another table, I taught them
another new game. I pointed out the virtues of Farms and Hospitals and the
importance of Feeding the People and we were off. I had trouble following
my own advice, but still pulled out a victory. I twice was unable to feed
my populace and once got by becuase of the Rich Harvest. My food production
caught up in the end and I finished with 29 food and 28 people and 6 points
in bonuses. Carl finished in the mid 20S and Joe did well right to the end,
when one of his cities was complete depopulated. He finished with 17 people
and the 3 point bonus.
At 3 AM, I departed and Joe and Carl were looking to join another game. I
believe there were 3 or 4 other people still hanging around at that hour.
Thanks to Walter for sending Wallenstein along, even if it never got played.
I'd appreciate it if it made the trip to wakefield at the end of the
month. Thanks to Dave T and scholars for providing the space and stocking
the fridge.
