IC (In Character) discussion list for the Changeling the Lost chronicle in the Isles of Darkness society.
The growth of the internet was a catalyst for Lost society on a larger scale. Prior to this, while societies and groups ensured some communication beyond a local Freehold, it was always with a certain level of distrust and wariness. Such groups could, and had been in the past, infiltrated by Loyalists, and as such their larger gatherings were few and far between. It could often be a whole year before a local Freehold learned the news of their neighbours, simply due to the insular nature of Lost society, and the fear and suspicion with which newcomers and visitors were held. The internet gave a level of freedom not previously enjoyed in communication, with many Lost believing that such communications were harder for the Gentry to trace, and thus one of the biggest threats of outsider involvement was removed. It allowed for greater dissemination of information, and even facilitated meetings and deals between disparate groups of Lost, ensuring the faster spread of information amongst Freeholds. The most recent innovation was spearheaded by Rose Hall, a Manikin of the Elementals, who’s abilities with the Contracts of Artifice, and employment as a computer technician, allowed her to design and test several prototype communication methods within her motley, before releasing the idea to others. She designed an email network, based on her experiences with computer code and safeguarding of information, which was exceptionally difficult for any to infiltrate. It is rumoured, though unproved, that Rose made certain deals to ensure further security for these electronic communications, but what is known for certain is that the Gentry have extraordinary difficulty in even comprehending the workings of such communications, let alone infiltrating them.
