I like the one in Ms. Pac that has the two tunnels on each side.
Now I'm thinking that its not in the original game!

What do all of you consider to be your favorite Pac/Ms. Pac mazes?
I personally like the "Attack"/"Miss Pac Plus" maps a it more than the
original maps.
The "Xen's Revenge" and "Ultra" maps look pretty cool too...

When AGE was created, there were no color proms dumped for the games
yet.
AGE uses its own palettes, as does Turaco. The palettes for later
versions of AGE and subsequently, Turaco are contained in the .ini
files. Earlier AGE releases have palette data stored in the source
drivers.

Never shake a Sno-Bee. Never.
For anyone who might be interested, I'm working on a hack to revert Ms.
Pac back to Crazy Otto.
I'm basing it on the one picture we have of the game from Time
magazine. Here's the graphics so far:
http://www.cis.rit.edu/~sdlpci/Image/2004/02/ottoman.gif
I basically have the ghosts done (normal and blue) and I'm working on
the "Otto Man", seen as the player credit at the bottom of the screen.
It's hard to get the proportions right on that one...
I should also note that last night, Mark Spaeth came up with a fix for
the level 141 crash/hang. It's "HACK9" on the mspac disassembly:

Hey all.
I'm working on a project now with *someone*, and I can't really say the
specifics, but the end result is a multi-pacman/multi-game unit with
lots of pac-maps, various games that run on pac hardware, and the like.
Anyway... If you have maps and/or game hacks for pac/pac hardware,
please point me to your web page or email me information. Do not send
me roms.

Turaco is (unfortunately) based on the MAME emulator. MAME does not
support any of the betting-based games ("Cherry Master" is a
redemption/slot machine kind of game, no?).
And on top of that, it is only based on sprite-based games, which is
why games like Williams games (Joust, Robotron, Sinistar, etc) are not
included.
Short answer: no. there's no support, and it would not be easy to add
in without documentation of the hardware of the machine, or at least a
set of the roms (which I do not have.)

Chances are that if MAME doesn't have the viewer, You can't easily make
a driver for it for Turaco.

Hi all,
I got it in my little mind that maybe I could try to replace some
of the image banks in the "Qix-strip" games like Fantasia and
Fantasy '95 (I'm a little tired of the girls they use there..... ;))
So I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions on how I
might export those images to a PCX file or other useful type. The
large image files in these types of games aren't accesible in the
databank ROM viewer provided in MAME.
Any suggestions?....... Thanks!

Hi,
I want to make a port of Xevious to DHTML or Flash and am trying to
get the graphics - for starters (what about the map-data???)
When I use Turaco CL to decode the ROM's I get two PCX-files. Nice,
but when I view them in ACDSee, Paint Shop Pro and/or Photoshop I'm
left with two black (ie: empty) graphics files.
So what's up with this? Did I do something wrong?
Here's what I did and the program output:

I will still (eventually) continue for a 1.0 release of Turaco CL:
- Known bugs to be fixed (windows?)
- Nintendo VS support
but I've got a full plate right now from other projects...
Hi.. I've worked out how to load Magical Drop II and III in turaco,
and the first two banks work fine, but the third banks for both games
just have two lines of "garbage" images, and I can't scroll down
below. to the right of that it says "???" for the address.
Is this an error on my part or does turaco not have the ability to
show the third banks for these two games?

I don't believe anyone has written a tutorial of any kind. The most
documentation you'll find is in the "inidriv.txt" file which fully
documents the pac-man driver. That's about the most that anyone has
done.
Anyhoo, I just looked at the Vs. driver for MAME. (src/drivers/vsnes.c)
and it seems that (at least in mame 0.65) that the decoding happens
within the "PPU", which is different than standard 'sprite' hardware.
it seems as if the decoding is actually done in src/vidhrdw/ppu2c03b.c,
I think.
Thanks to the MAME team, once again going against their prime
directive, the decode routine isn't explained. (One of their prime
directives is "preserve
This leads me to think that this decoding might require special
routines in Turaco CL in order to accomplish this.
I will look into it further. I might not have time to do so before
next monday though.
For testing purposes, can you send me a romset? (send it to me
personally, NOT to the yahoo group, thanks!)
ie: "Vs. The Goonies", "Vs. Gradius", "Vs. Slalom", "Vs. Tetris", "Vs.
BaseBall" or whichever game you're using.

However, I haven't a clue how to write a driver for the vs roms.
Any suggestions for a place to look for a tutorial and/or how to go
about writing a new driver would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using the drivers from your webpage
(http://www.cis.rit.edu/~jerry/Software/turacoCL).
Under the link for the Turaco Classic Drivers 1.1 1999-02-06.
I had to take a guess at the actual file and rename it as it was no
longer called n138001a.378. As there were only 2 files of length
131,072 and since both the pulstar and blazstar inis used the 's' rom
file, I assumed it would be the 049-s1.bin.
I'm running WinXP sp1... I'll email you the files separately.
Ps.
As a side note, even when using the -ini switch, I still need to set
the TDRIVERS env variable, which is a bit annoying.

You don't need the palette file if you're exporting .pcx files. it's
just a reference file so that turaco can re-import the bank image
properly, but that's only necessary when you're using .ppm image files.
That's just an artifact from the old version of the program. :)

According to the Readme.txt file.
turacocl -ini drivers/bunny/bunnyb.ini -inf ROM
This should create three files:
bun_1.pcx "bunnyb" bank number 1 as a PCX image.
bun_1c.pcx A "checkerboard" file. (explained below)
bun_p1.pcx The palette key for palette 1.
I tried this with Galaga and I only get the _1.pcx / _1c.pcx
How do I get the _p1.pcx file? I would like to use the proper colors
and not guess my own using photoshop 7 palette options.
First of all, make sure you're using the original Turaco Classic
drivers, not the prematurely released Turaco CL drivers that used to be
available on my site.
Secondly, If this is with the old drivers, can you send me the roms and
ini driver you're using along which exactly which version of Windows
you're running (I assume it's windows from the D:\ prompt)
(don't send the rom files or ini driver to the group, only send it to
me directly. :)
