The defenders are either making a stand, fleeing up the stairs or
pleading mercy. The assault is awaiting orders, taking prisoners or
dispatching them, or beginning to pillage.

IC:
Morien raises his voice into a mighty bellow. "The Castle has FALLEN! Surrender
NOW and you may yet LIVE! Or you will get my AXE into your gizzards!" His
bloodstained axe waves in the air to add weight to his words, the blood
sprinkled around like the holy water when a priest blesses something.
1... 2... 3... If there are still enemies making a stand, Morien charges one of
them, hoping to make a swift, brutal example. If the fellow he is attacking
seems relatively puny or is armed with a dagger, he will not bother defending
but puts his attention into making an efficient overkill, to strike fear into
the hearts of the enemies and to convince them that they are doomed if they
continue resisting.
If the enemies surrender (before or after the demonstration), Morien orders part
of his men to secure the captives ('No looting until I say so!'), leading the
rest of them up the stairs in an attempt to keep up the momentum as well as try
to reach the heiress to free her.
OOC: Sorry it took me a while to check my email. Ruleswise, Morien will use
Berserk Tactic (enemy gets an unopposed attack against Morien, then he gets to
make an unopposed attack at +10 in return, hoping for a critical hit), if the
enemy seems like he is in the 4d6 damage category physically or is armed with a
dagger (-1d6 to damage, so probably making only a scratch, if that, through
Morien's armor). I'd imagine that the size and the muscle mass might be pretty
obvious at a glance to make an educated guess ('Yeah, he hits / does not hit
hard.').
Also, let me know if Morien has too few men to split them up like this. Ideally,
he'd like to have his men herd the unarmed prisoners up to the second floor and
lock them into one of the rooms, if possible, once the floor has been cleared?
Thus freeing them from having to watch the prisoners to a more proactive duty.
Sure, the barred door would still be guarded, but it is easy for a couple of men
to keep a door guarded while it would take many more to watch the numerous
unbound prisoners, I am thinking. If those doors are unlockable, then I guess
Morien would order his men to tie the prisoners up and guard them at the first
floor until reinforcements arrive / new orders come.
I am a bit unsure of the numbers involved, so some clarification would be nice.
Do Morien's men have a rough parity in numbers with the defenders? Are they like
one tenth of the defenders in the tower? Are the defenders in what state of
armament and readiness? He would, preferentially, detail a section of his men to
sweep the second floor, while he rushes up with the men he has to the third
floor to save the girl, to save the world. Ahem. Sorry. :P
Yes, I know I am getting ahead of myself here, but I am basically trying to
cover eventualities far enough for the GM to pose onwards. :)
