"Not so much improvements, m'lord, but rather points of interest." Morien replies to Bege. "Most being things to ask the old retainer... Mainly, we need to have a rather detailed floorplan of the castle, so that we know which way we need to go in order to secure the maiden. Secondly, we need to know where the foreign mercenaries might be stationed during the day and how many there are; here the young man outside might help us again. Even if his information isn't exact nor current, it still lets us have a feel of what to expect."
He then glances at the other knights. "In my mind, there are two goals here. Well, three, but I think the third is something we do not have strength for at first. The two important things are: to secure the maiden and to secure the gate. If we achieve the first but fail in the second,
we are trapped with the maiden. if we achieve the second and fail in the first, they would undoubtedly threaten her in hopes of making us back down."
"Without more information on the layout and forces, clear recommendations are hard to make." Morien continues, "But a thought occurs that we ought to leave the bulk of our forces to safeguard the upper gate, so that we can be reinforced by the army outside, while a small group of picked knights rushes up the tower to secure the maiden's room. If most of the mercenaries are in the great hall or otherwise unable to reinforce the upper portions of the tower without using the stairs, we might wish to make that a chokepoint as well." He then shrugs. "But like I said earlier, it depends on the enemy forces as well as the layout of the castle."
Finally, he does deliver one suggestion more. "It might be worthwhile to consider attacking during the meal time? Depending how lax the mercenaries are, we
might actually bar most of them into the great hall to be dealt with in leisure, while it might actually be expected for some of the guardsmen to go and get some food from the tower anyway, thus invoking no suspicion as we walk over the courtyard. Another thing to ask that young man, about routines and such."
