Hey everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself here. Just picked up TFoB a few
days ago, mostly on the basis that it was a deep and detailed wargame system.
In fact, it was listed as the ASL of the 1:1 miniature war game genre over on
boardgamegeek. Now in theory, I am a fan of ASL, owned the 2nd ed. rule book
and two of the starter kits (1&3), but ended up trading off the rule book. The
core modules were always out of print and those on the used market were much
more than I was willing to spend. I enjoyed playing the starter kits though.

To make a long story short, I missed the ASLRB and wanted something similar,
just not with the large cash investment. After searching around I came upon
TFoB and liked what I managed to read about it. Seemed to be just what I was
looking for. I managed to snag a copy of the rules for cheap and here I am now.

Now I know that miniature based war games aren't cheap, hell, GW managed to take
my paychecks for years, but I'm doing things different this time around. I
don't plan on buying any minis, just going to use little wood blocks (matched to
the height scale and marked accordingly) and make do with those. I don't plan
on any face to face battles, just giving it a go solo and I know that I won't
mind.

So far, I like what I'm reading on the rules. Sure, there are lots of them, but
they don't seem too complex and they have all that chrome that I came to love
with ASL. I'm glad I found out about them. Hopefully others will too.

Anyways, just wanted to say "hello".

Al

Al, I think you will like the rules a lot once you start playing. The rules are very detailed, without overtaxing the player (see next message), are realistic...
