For this campaign, I'll be sticking almost entirely to the Second Edition rules
set as printed (I do have one house rule for initiative, mostly to offset the
frequency of combat-oriented characters all acting on 8 and non-combatants all
going at 3). In the past, I've tried substituting the VPS system d20 with two
d10s. However, the probability curve this adds seemed to come with its own
problems. PCs failing at any action they were moderately skilled in became an
extremely rare occurrence, and most of the advantage of becoming highly skilled
disappeared from the rules. We also had to add some house rules for occult
powers, as the primary danger with their use (a critical failure) went from a 5%
chance to a 1% chance. And, from the GM's viewpoint, its much quicker and
easier to roll several d20s for NPCs in a combat than rolling pairs or sets of
dice seperately and totaling the results of each.
Thanks for the message, though. If you know of anyone who might be interested,
please send them our way. My remaining players have caught wind of my
intentions, and may very well kill me in my sleep if I do not start this game
soon.
If anyone else has questions regarding rules or setting, feel free to ask away
as well. I know Fading Suns isn't the most well-known of RPGs, so I have no
problems acclimating those who are completely inexperienced with it to the game.

Mike,
While I'm not available to join your group, I do have a question for you.
What version of the rules are you using and why is that your preference? I
played Fading Suns many years ago and we used one of the sets of rules from
the books and then also tried a 3d6 version, as well. I love the setting and
the inside jokes/nods of the head that the designers put in the game to
other sci-fi rpgs such as Traveller.
