I don't recall any mention of relative strength, but seem to recall Necromorphs being described as listless and unmotivated (zombie-like, y'might say), so they were actually less effective in melee attacks, but considerably harder to disable.
I did not use Necromorphs myself, so have none painted, but having commanded them once in one of this group's online games, if it were up to me, I'd dress them in tie-dyes and drape them with noisy, unshielded electronics on the theory that the more incoming fire directed at the necromorphs (who are too listless to sneak or take cover anyway) the less left over for my breathers.

oops...meant this to go out to everyone..
If you were to paint necromorphs, since they don't care what they look like, they might be any dull, drab color....greys would be inexpensive, as well as browns. Why spend money to make them attractive? Their dead!
They might have color unit designations for the commanders to see.
One might think that since necromorphs don't care about pain or damage much, that they could get an increase strength bonus in melees...us living people limit ourselves due to the pain certain exertions cause us...they wouldn't. They wouldn't be supermen, but they'd be stronger than average men, kinda like insane people can be, or certain people high on drugs...the animation headset could be set to all sorts of things like that...pump adrenaline into the system, etc.
Oooh..this is kinda creepy...the necromorphs still need air and nutrition in order to keep the fires burning, so to speak...the animation headset would simply be a high-tech life-support system. Say your necromorphs have lost their supplies somehow...but need to feed...they attack a base in order to feed on the occupants of the base...Shawn if the Dead with lasers....hmmm...
I only have the old style Necro but mine are painted with a black jump suit, red brown boots, belt / collar, and a stripe down the legs in the color of the squad type. (like the Starguard unit colors)

Hi,
I'm new to the group and have a request for pictures of painted
Necromorphs. I saw some in the photos section, however, they were too
small in the picture to see how they were painted. Just curious to
see how everyone likes to paint them before mine arrive in the mail.
Thanks
Scott
I've offered a SG game for Dundracon in San Ramon, for anyone interrested. It'd
be on Saturday the 13th, but time is still up in the air. Hope to see some of
you there (if you're local and not too busy.)
Enjoy,
