Hello Doug and welcome aboard!

I've played WH40K and will try and answer as best I can.
Starguard like 40K is a turn based game (I go you go). Where 40k has a set
movement phase, shooting phase and assault phase Starguard's turn is divided
into two phases. During these phases your figure can perform an action (move,
shoot, operate equipment...). The weapons have ranges divided into 3 band
(short, medium, long)with percentage chance to hit. The chance to hit can be
modified depending upon target conditions (prone, cover, size). We always have
used true line of sight between figs. Measurement of range is from center point
to center point of figure/vehicle.

Starguard can be easy to play but can also be confusing. The thing to remember
is that each figure can perform two actions (move/move, move/shoot, shoot/shoot,
shoot/move etc)in each turn. If you dive into the game I'd be happy to try and
help you along with the rules.

As far as where to start go small with the rules and 20 to 30 figs to try things
out and get the feel of which races you want to play. Be sure to check out the
files on this group for ideas and read the Lizard Tails for different ideas.

Regards
Bill

Hi all, my name is Doug and I sort of stumbled across a mention of this game on
another forum. After looking at the site and the figures, I really like the feel
of the minis. I play Warhammer 40K once in a while, but would love to find
another game. For those of you who have played both, how does this game compare
to 40K? What are some of the main differences? Also, how easy is this game to
learn? I've been reading through a few of the posts on here, and it sounds like
a lot of fun. Also, what should I purchase in order to get started out. Thanks
in advance for pointing me in the right direction, and I hope I can eventually
help contribute to the group.
