Well, yes. C&C is about the best ancient gaming I have done. I even
made myself a hex table to play with 25mm minis
(http://dogui.wordpress.com/2008/10/12/building-a-commands-colors-table/)
The cards limit what you can do, and represent some level of command
and control. Therefore in some scenarios one army will have 4 cards
and the other will have 6.
The cards say what you can do. Most of them let you activate a unit in
one of the three zones (left flank, center, right flank). An activated
unit moves and fights. There are other cards with special rules.
You can play the game solo by drawing one card at a time and trying to
use each card the best you can for the army in play. I played this way
a lot, and it gives a very random game. After a while the fun is lost.
A very important part of the strategy lies in the timely use of the
cards in your hand.
What I do now (I am playing a lot of Memoir ´44 right now which uses
the same base system) I draw the complete hand for every army and just
log into my "solo gaming state of mind". It´s not that different from
a regular game being played solo, but since the hand of cards is
totally random it gives very different game each time you play a scenario.
Cheers!
Guido
